First Look at Loki and Odin

Thor's helmet looks like it does in the comics these days...not sure which Odin helmet they are using, hopefully several, and I understand Loki has the big horns, so there you go!

source?

How incredibly melodramatic. The film "fails" because they don't have helmets?

you wouldn't consider the movie an automatic fail if the helmets/horns were made completley obsolete, without so much as a mention for their absense?

I'm sorry, but a "THOR" movie without the FULL COSTUMES, IN THEIR ENTIRETY to me, is yes, an AUTOMATIC FAIL

I don't think the movie would fail just because they did not have their helmets. The failing or succeeding of the movie would depend more on the story, and acting, especially to the general audience. However, if the helmets are not included, I do think that most fans (including myself) would be seriously disappointed that Marvel did not go the extra mile to insure that their characters look (which fans use as a way to identify the character, perhaps as much as their comic book personality) was not closer to that of the source material. It's a tricky thing, because in life if a person changes their clothes or look they are still the same person, but with comics their appearance is really closely linked with their identity or who they are, and if the look changes too much, then fans feel they have lost the character. Despite the fact that if it was a realistic situation the character would still be who they are despite what they are wearing.

Costumes look amazing, they don't look cheap, we know Thor and Loki have helmets.

The costumes look pristine and lack battle damage because they are gods. Gods don't wear damaged clothes.

I don't think they look plastic.

and that's my point, couldn't have worded it better. Fans identify with the costumes (because with cartoons/comics, that's pretty much all we see them in) as much as the character. To half ass the costumes, yes, dissapoints A LOT of fans, and I'm one of them

no helmets, no full costume, no win

simple as that

Maybe this just isn't the Thor movie for you, then. With any luck, it'll fail horribly and they'll reboot it in a couple years. ;)

G4 is going to have comic con live next Saturday so hopefully they will show Thor's panel.

I find incredible some think there won't be a helmet. Wow. And even if it does have a helmet it's kinda sad if one is dismissive of the film simply because one element of the character is missing.

Another thing is that these images could simply be at the beginning of the movie and perhaps Thor doesn't get his helmet until later on in the film. It's easy to take images out of context folks, annoyingly it happens to every superhero on film, the first image usually has people going ape **** because they don't bother thinking about what actually might be happening in that image.

jmc there's no room for your logic or intelligent discussion here. Obviously if Marvel chose to release three images of Thor without his helmet he doesn't wear one at any point in the movie. And his helmet is, like, the most important aspect of his character.

Magneto did not wear his helmet all the time, and that worked out okay.

I know it's not fair to compare the two [apples and oranges] but I am liking what I see from Thor much more that what I am seeing from Green Lantern.

it all depends on the character

Thor can get away with only wearing the helmet a couple of times throughout the film, as long as it's there

Loki on the other hand, NEEDS HIS HORNS FOR THE BULK OF THE MOVIE

this fan absolutley WILL NOT tolerate a hornless Loki, sorry, not happening (especially with the pansy looking pretty boy they got playing him)

that's definitley true for Loki and his horns
If you honestly believe this, you have no grasp of Loki's character whatsoever

He is a schemer, the literal embodiment of chaos. A disgraced son, an outcast who is not truly one of the aesir. Slippery and weaselly, he has always been viewed as second best. But the most important aspect of his character is his horned helmet

this coming from someone with a horned Loki as his AV

That is how Loki looks. This does not mean it is the most important aspect of his character.

Context is key. Once Loki is exposed as a villain and becomes the big bad, he should wear his helmet from then on. But as he begins his descent into villainy, as he discovers who he truly is and his background, his goal will be to scheme and snake his way onto the throne. He will not want to display that something has changed, or that he feels uncomfortable around the other Asgardians, or that he feels the need to stand out. The whole point is that Thor will not suspect his brother of betraying him, and Loki beginning to wear the horned helmet at all times out of the blue would be something of a red flag. Only after he has succeeded in betraying Thor and overthrowing Odin would that change be appropriate.

exactly my point

if they don't include the horns, at all, completely disregard them from the film all together, that would be wrong

that's all I'm saying. I couldn't care less if he doesn't have them in the begining of the film (obviously wouldn't make sense regarding the character) but once he starts to develope and becomes the villain, I would say inbetween a good quarter and halfway through the movie (which would be the bulk), he needs to wear them

I agree with everyone that was looking for something grittier and not so "futuristic or Iron Man" looking

I think that's my problem with it, it's more of an updated look from the comics/animated projects and that's not what I was expecting, at all

Its not updated ,they aren't looking for realism this the original style that Jack Kirby and Stan Lee created way back in Journey into Mystery. This kind of high tech aliens who stories were adapted by the Norse people. I could of gone either way with JMS, Copiel style that was more norse god like or Kirby alien style. I just wanted the whole story to take place in Asgard and have little to do with Earth.

Loki needs true character development. A full arc from somewhat neglected son to full-on treacherous bastard. Rushing his development and having the reveal that soon into the movie would cheapen his character. I'm thinking 3/4 of the way through.

Suday's LA TIMES has a wide shot of Odin's throne room and you can see Loki with his horned helmet and Odin with a large, almost "Galactus" like helmet. I think Thor's is under his left arm, but his back is to us and the cape covers a lot.

some complain about the costumes with out the helmet, imagine when those same nay sayers see them with the helmets.
