Iron Man First review of Iron Man

Let´s look at the review as being truthful....

I TOLD YOU SO!!

Remember that, always remember that i´m 98% right when i say a comic book movie is going to be crap or just ok.

[Elvis]Thank you, thank you very much[/Elvis]

In fact, besides The Dark Knight and Hellboy 2, i´m not expecting much from The Incredible Hulk and The Punisher 2.
It doesn´t take a rocket scientist to arrive to this conclusion, all can do it if they lock the fanboy inside and really think about the movie at hand.

Which is strange, because to me locking the fanboy inside would result in not giving a damn about the movie, therefore removing all judgment.

By the sounds of it, this movie is good, but doesnt quite reach the level of the best comic book movies, which is a bit dissapointing IMO. I'm sure i'll still enjoy it, but i was hoping for a little bit more.

Agreed with Isildur's Heir about TDK and HB 2, i'm not expecting much from TIH and P:WZ, so i was hoping Iron Man would be something special (something i'm almost certain HB2 and TDK will be), but it sounds like its just good, not great. We'll see.

By saying "locking the fanboy inside" is not the same as you looking at it as a person that never cared for comic books before.
By fanboy i mean, in this case, being extremely hyped for the movie just because it´s Iron Man.
If you lock the "fanboy inside" you still have the fan, and fan is better than fanboy.

Well to be honest I have never been a big fan of Iron Man, so I can't even really say I am a fan. But this movie has piqued my interest in the character, and to be honest I see a movie that can be anything from good to great. I do not see another Ghost Rider or F4, which I knew would be sub-par right away.

So Transformers wasn't an action movie?

Interesting.

Did you see the movie? Most of the time the TF never appeared and the action scenes were very short.

It was the random, unlikable humans that dominated the film, not the TF.

As I said it before it couldn't decide whether it was an action movie or an American Pie sequel. Bay wanted to do both and ended up failing on both counts.

But the plot progressed through the use of action sequences, therefore it was an action movie.

Anyone really worried about this review?

Not sure what is meant by the zoolander montage, but as for the movie not immediately delving into the demons of drinking, I think its a good move on Favreau's part not to have done more then skim that.

Balancing that within the existing movie might of not done the arc justice, you need something interesting and different to focus on within the next couple of movies, and actually, he is obviously setting it up if Stark is shown continuously drinking.
Give it time to evolve for crying out loud! Next movie won't have the whole origin part and introduction of existing characters, so you go to then take that extra time to add dimensions to the characters.

Sounds like the reviewer is against the film, I just got that from him saying underserved coolness and sharpness to his dialogue, as if he'd wish the movie would have had flat acting so he could completely trash it.

imo the movie seems to have too much humor, which i don't like at all

Now all Iron Man fans will cry and moan that there was too much comedy and not enough iron monger. I say to hell with those complaints. This isn't batman. It will be a very entertaining action packed comedy movie. Thumbs up.

just as my fears are suspected... they didn't get the basic story and script right which is a downright damn shame

this is genuine stuff as well, I'm not surprised Favreau stuck with the whole campy FF style comedy slapstick approach..... god dammit and just as I was waiting for some kick ass reviews

:boba: It...has...begun.

im sure it will be worth it

Which again leads me to the question ;
will there truly ever be a comic book adaptation that is perfect?

Of course not, "perfect" is infinitely subjective and over the course of history all of these heroes have been written in many different ways, as people pointed out, Stark is often funny in his comic as well as serious, and even hateable.

So thats why its so hard for directors and writers to strike a balance in their films, and sometimes they just give up because they know how hard to please fans are anyways, so they just make a generic movie.

I'm sure this'll be better then generic, and surely a balance has been struck, but they had to market it the way they have.

The reason for that is because he they didn't have the budget to create long action scenes. Now that the movie was a success, they'll have a bigger budget for the sequel, thus more action between bots.

The first Spider-Man movie made over 400 million dollars domestically and over 800 million dollars in worldwide gross.

You're kidding yourself.

You're right, and I don't think anyone is really expecting that. I highly doubt any superhero movie comes close to the success of the Spider-Man films. There you just had the right mix with popularity of the character, and a film that was "family friendly" and a good cast/script/director.

Yeah, you're awesome

Sorry, but hes probably right. When you follow movies for as long as guys like me, you start to develop a sense of how good a movie is.

I'm hoping Iron Man's good, but at most, its only going to be as good as X1.....which was only ok...

You guys are wwwaaaayyyy too full of yourselves. What we're you expecting? On the Waterfront? No. Robocop? Yes.

I'm sure it will be an entertaining movie in the very least, and hit alot of the characters best points.

I would think that somebody experienced with movies would know that the best way to determine how good a movie is, is by watching it. But what do I know? I haven't been watching movies as long as you have!

Yeah...I used to think that way about comic movies...until i realized that most of them are formulaic...its nice to be pleasantly surprised, but ive realized that with comic movies, most really dont try and break the mold, therefore you can pretty much accurately guess how a movies gonna turn out.

IM isn't The Mask, either.

There is humor and campiness with the franchise but overdoing the comedy to much is a bad move. Story's FF is an example of that.
