Superman Returns First screening (for the press) report

While this is certainly positive...is this really the kind of posititve that a Superman movie OUGHT TO have? I mean, there are comparrisons to 9/11 for godsakes. It sounds like an art house flick, not a Superman movie.

If that´s how you choose to see... It didn´t compare the movie to 9/11, it compared a particular scene with a scene of a movie that happens to be about 9/11, seriously, Matt, you´re kinda forcing it now...

And it sounded very engaging and entertaining to me.

No, its definitely posititive...but it also makes the movie sound like an artsy character study as opposed to a Superman movie. That has been one of my critiques since day one...that it would turn out that way.

I see Batman Begins and Spider-Man 2 as character studies and it didn´t prevent me from being entertained by them... From all the clips and trailers we seen, it looks like there´s plenty of action and humor to balance out with the more serious stuff.

Your going by what reviewers say to make THAT kind of decision before seeing it

Typical

Hey Matt why dont you & Desk team up & just post just to simply post on these Boards whenever your type of review" come in. You & Desk seem to have alot in common

How in the blue f**k do you get "artsy character study" out of that? Break that down for me.

Artsy character study? Where the hell are you getting that out of that review? Its not like the guy compared it to Magnolia...jeez Matt you're really stretching for material here.

You really dissapointed me here, Matt. The guy brought up an obvious shallow comparision, but your so damn quick to come back with some critism, you blurt out "Art house". Art House? WTF is that? Where the sweet blue hell did you get that?

Besides, Superman catches a plane, no big deal, but after 9/11 it a strong visual image, I doubt this guy is going to bring up that comparison. Or the last.

Art house... WTF?

the guy basicaly says this is the best superhero movie ever. whose complaining?

How people should respond.

All I can say is, I hope you're right Ultimatefan.

Yes, because we all know how many art house flicks have guys in blue tights flying after crashing planes, or bullets boucing off chests, or bald villains making kryptonite continents. I think art house flicks like Joy Luck Club and Magnolia had TONS of those moments.

So I guess in Matt's book, a good superman movie shouldn't have ANY sort of intelligent or emotional character exploration, nor should it have any parallels to events like 9/11.

But maybe Matt is right. Maybe a REAL Superman movie should just have a guy flying around beating up robots and with lots of things going boom.

Does it bother anyone that the Max Fleischer cartoon depiction of Superman is more masculine than the live action Brandon Routh Superman?

This is so ****ing sweet... SUPERMAN RETURNS will knock the **** out of everything that comes near it! This film doesn't only sound to be one heck of a superhero flick, but it also sounds to be a very epic and unforgetable tale!!!

Of course it is... it's a cartoon. They can get away with it.

Does it bother you that the Max Fleischer depiction is more masculine than any live action Superman actors to date?
