Meanwhile, we have Clark Kent as a unbelievable, clumsy, Inspector Clousea-style bungler and a Lex Luthor who is a camp, corny pantomime villain who marries old women for their money. These aren't common depictions of these characters - they're exclusive to the films originated by Richard Donner.
Uhm again, you can't discount the older comics because they don't fit your veiw. try picking up a Superman archives once in awhile. That was Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, and not they weren't "inventions of Richard Donner"

His basic comment is that you can't do a movie that closely mirrors the comics because the general public won't like it.
I say that a good story is a good story no matter what and if it works in the comics, chances are very good that it will work with general audiences.
It's been my belief right along that the general public has been underestimated by Hollywood. That they would 'get' superheroes if the material was presented faithfully and in an intelligent, semi-realistic fashion. At least have a logic to them that isn't totally farsical.
Here's a note: Humanoid life can't survive let alone evolve on a crystaline planet.

No problem! Glad I could help!DavidTyler said:GEE, Brad...
Thanks for clearing that up for me.. .that makes all the difference.
When it comes to sci-fi fantasy I think so.So, if I'm inferring correctly, no movie or book ever has to be believable because they're all fantasy on some level.
Are we heading to the theater already? Cool!C'mon, Man.
Whats wrong with going back and feeling like a kid again...sounds great to me.Maybe that's enough of an explanation for you but it DOESN'T work for me. I can suspend disbelief to an extent but I can't go back to being 11 years old anymore. I need to see a Superman movie that spans the generation not caters to children. To span the generations, they need to be cognizant of the fact that some of us are going to look at crystaline Krypton and go ...'No friggin way!.
Well I think you are going to be missing a great movie...I am going to be there tonight at 10PM and most likely again this Saturday! Now, I'm a Star Trek (Kirk & Spock) fan and I know that time travel is not possible and probably matter transportation isn't either but I'm willing to suspend disbelief because there are more things that operate logically and realistically in that universe than not. ... And - SURPRISE - kids liked it, too.
I want the same things from my superhero films.
