Footloose remake?! NOOOOOO!

Well, Julianne Hough looks amazing (as always).

Remaking Footloose is just a plain and stupid idea, the thing with the original movie is that it was a product of it's time and accompanied by an excellent soundtrack of top recording artists.

^This. This is what really bugs me about Hollywood and their remake craze. You cannot recreate a moment in time, no matter how hard you try. This remake is especially dumb since the trailer indicates all they did is update the movie to include horrible hip hop and Step Up style dancing that most people, especially in a hick town, are incapable of.

Besides, does anyone honestly buy that the storyline of that movie would holdup in any town this day in age?

There's no way they'll ever match up to these original scenes...

The remake blows up Bonnie Tyler

Advantage: Remake :awesome:

I don't see how the premise of Footloose is suposed to work in 2011. It barely made sense in the 80's as it was.

Poking fun at conservative christians is never outdated.

Least of all in Hollywood.

I'm sure Hollywood was happy to keep that storyline. They love to make fun of us as much as possible

I just think hardcore conservative christians would be more concerned about the internet, video games, and TV. They moved on from dancing a long time ago.

I just don't see how this movie will be able to bring home the Bacon.:o

Ok. So here's the thing.

1) Zac Efron was smart to pass this up. Which tells me he's going to have a long-lasting and successful career, much like his tween career thus far.

2) Everything in this trailer seems so boring, over-done, the same. This movie has no identity. And will be forgotten as such.

3) They try selling us this small southern town setting, then we cut to wild hip-hop music and people dancing like they're from Step-Up. Does not fit at ALL.

4) I think if Footloose was telling of that era's music and generation, then Step-Up is telling of this generations music and setting. And there's nothing wrong with that. But Step-Up did it first, so in essence, Step-Up is the new generations Footloose, not this remake.

5) I feel bad critizing it because I know for a fact the lead Garret Hedlund look-alike worked his ASS off for this film.

People in the south can listen to hip-hop too....

I'm sure listening to dueling banjos gets old after awhile. :o

Rap/Hip Hop music is banned in my house because it is the true devil's music of today, cause you know it inspires people to be bad & do bad things.:cwink: Rap/Hip Hop music wasn't as big back when the original Footloose came out but hopefully it is banned in the movie also & persecuted as equally as all other music or this remake would be a waste of time but MTV wouldn't want to offend their biggest demographic.

It's not the listening to hip-hop that's the problem. country folks like hip-hop more than you think. it's the dancing like you're professional and like you belong in an Usher video that's the problem, as I can guarantee you most people regardless of where they live, but especially in a hick town cannot do that.

Again, that's part of where this movie will fail is because the original had more "natural" dancing of the times where it felt like you would see regular kids doing that. Nothing felt overly choregraphed. We've said it before but it bears repeating; Footloose was a product of it's time and it worked for the 80's.

Lol it's funny how things change. Hip-Hop dancing has become the norm in pop culture today. Back in the 80's and even the 90's, it was it's very own unique style, but there were several different ways kids use to dance back then.

I much rather watch this type of dancing:

Give them time. If it's something that makes normal, sane people happy, some Tea Party whackjob will come out against it sooner or later.

The only way this premise would work is if they go really over the top with it. Like that scene in Walk Hard where Dewy Cox starts a riot because he's singing a song about hand holding. You should treat it like a Mel Brooks movie, and have some people in the town doing awful things, but people ignore it and instead focus on the evils of dancing.

Nobody puts Baby in a corner. :awesome:
