No spoilers, as I haven't seen it yet. But do you think the film or any of its performances could be embraced during awards season? Or will this, TDKR, Prometheus, and the rest of the year's blockbusters cancel each other out if they're good?

I really hope it gets oscar for special effects

Personally I love the main theme, I keep listening to it over and over, so hope that it in with a shout of best score too

I don't think it will get any oscars for acting, although I think would be nice to see Hiddleston get a nom for supporting, hear he is fantastic in it, he was great in Thor too

Best director? Best film? Dark Knight was nominated for best film, so if critics love it as much as fans, maybe

No it wasn't
“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Ceán Chaffin, Producers

“Frost/Nixon” Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Eric Fellner, Producers

“Milk” Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen, Producers

“The Reader” Anthony Minghella, Sydney Pollack, Donna Gigliotti and Redmond Morris, Producers

“Slumdog Millionaire” Christian Colson, Producer

No. All the performances are fine, this just isn't an awards movie. Maybe for the technical awards though.

No it wasn't

I thought it was, oh well

Its kinda funny though because I am not a huge DK fan at all, yet I still like it better than all those 5 films that were nominated lol

Here are 5 films from that year better than those oscar nominated ones

WALL-E
In Bruges
Let the Right One In
Gran Torino
and Dark Knight

that would be a better oscar line up :yay:

yeah, this probably isn't gonna be in the best actor nod area

BUT.... I think Hopkins should have at least been nominated for supporting role asOdin in Thor

just me

This isn't gonna get any nominations outside of SFX stuff. It's a summer popcorn movie, I'm sure the performances will be great, but if Downey didn't get a nom for the first Iron Man (which was probably the best performance of all the Marvel movies), nothing in this movie will.

Don't be surprised if Tom Hiddleston does

It's a great movie and I'm sure critics will rave about it, but it'a not really an "Oscary" film. I only see it getting nominated for technical awards.

If Ledger and Nicholson got nods for the Joker, then Hiddleston deserves one for his portrayal of Loki.

While Nicholson has won 3 oscars, and been nominated for many more, his Joker was not one them.

I don't even know what an oscar worthy movie is anymore, 75% of the time, I find them utter borefests, from the pictures to the actors to the FX (Hugo beating out Rise of the Apes and The Golden Compass beating out Transformers????? What a joke)

But, I can see maybe Golden Globes, people choice awards, MTV movie awards, SCI fi awards.......

This should get a lot of nominations in the technical categories. It's as comic-book-y as a comic book movie can be, so I don't see the Academy members seeing it as Oscar material in the big categories, awesome as it is.

This. At the very least they should get visual effects and sound noms, they sure as hell deserve it. Maybe it'll get nominated for Best Comedy/Musical the Golden Globes though. Not the most appropriate category, but hell Sherlock Holmes won it one year iirc.

Awards wise it'll be nominated for all the technical awards but it won't win any. If Rise of the Planet of the Apes doesn't win for visual effects last year, Avengers won't win this year though it deserves it.

I see special effects awards cominhg, but nothjing for performance or direction.

As good as Loki was, he was no Ledger or Nicholson. Now if you're talking Oscars, then he will have more to 'prove' to the Academy before getting nods and whatnot.

Now that I've seen the movie, it has a good chance at getting nominated for any of these categories:
Actor in a supporting role - Tom Hiddleston
Costume Design
Sound Editing
Sound Mixing
Visual Effects

To a lesser extent:
Best Picture
Cinematography
Music (Original Score)
Writing (Adapted Screenplay)

For the genre awards this movie will get a lot of love. But for your Oscars etc. technical awards only.

After seeing this a few times, there's no chance for any big awards. Costume, sound. At first I thought it'd have visual effects in the bag but there's a lot of dodgy cg in this, sure the Hulk is great but a lot of shots eh are not good.

Despite its acclaim, there is no serious/high profile ceremony that will give a comic book movie like this that doesn't take itself seriously any sort of meaningful recognition sadly...

But, I guess stranger things have happened lately..

For the big awards I don't see it deserving of any except Joss does deserve a nod for director. I see people say Tom but come on he's just up on screen hamming it up big time, having the time of his life.

I don't really see on for Costume either.
