Former Supergirl on Smallville

Just read not too long ago, that Helen Slater will make an appearance on abouit six episodes of Smallville and will play the Aunt of the new Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort). My questions is that is she going to play Lara, the Biological Mother to Kal-El/Clark? This version of Supergirl was apparently close to Lara. Would that be part of helping Clark get an idea of what Krypton was like and where his destiny should lie?

She's going to play Lara and Kara is going to help him get in touch with his Kryptonian side and find out more about his mom...

If done right, this should be good. In fact, I am sure it will be a good ep. But what bothers me is that there are so many kryptonians when he is susposed to be the sole survivor. I felt that way about Lois and Clark too althought I love that show to the end. Fortunately for me, I really don't have to have totally accurate mythos to enjoy the show and this guest appearance will be fun and enjoyable. Also I got to meet Ms Slater at the Metropolis celebration. She is wonderful.

His parents are clearly dead. I don't think that will change.

In the 4th vid I got to ask Helen if she was interested in ever having a cameo on smallville. (note: this was way before they mentioned supergirl on smallville and before they even mentioned any interest in Slater) So yeah, I'm geeked

However, after he first few years, the writers at DC realized that while good in theory, him being "the only survivor" would result in a lot of reused storylines. So, in an effort to expand the mythology, they created various characters: Kara, Zor-El, Allura, Zod, and his associates Nam-Ek and Aethyr (Ursa & Non were based on them for "Superman II"). This allowed for various stories to be told, and over the last 50 years, all sorts of writers have puled the same trick (Doomsday, anyone?). From a story perspective, it makes perfect sense. How would you continue a series like Superman, if he was the only one of his kind? You'd either have to say he was immortal at some point, or add in a relative.

I actually liked Lynda Carter's performance as Moira Sullivan, my only complaint being she didn't bother to dye her hair blonde (since Moira was scene as a blonde in a previous flashback). But as for the role itself, I was rather surprised at how well she did; it was cool.

As for Kara, I'm not so sure it's too early. I mean, the series has been going for 6 years now, and in that time, Clark has gone from a shy farmboy to someone you could actually see becoming the fabled Man of Steel. His character has actually progressed quite a bit. He's fought against innumerable meteor freaks, and the last 2 years he's dealt with the aforementioned "Zod Squad", plus Brainiac, various Phantom Zone escapees, and now Bizarro.

I think Season 7 will be plenty interesting, and having the whole "mentor" relationship between Clark & Kara seems like a good story, if they can make it work. Laura Vandervoort definitely looks the part, and I'm actually psyched about Helen Slater making an appearance ("Supergirl" was a film I always liked, even though it has more cheese than your average pizza). I'm still waiting for them to bring back Pete Ross; hopefully they'll get him before the series finale...

It'd be really cool to have him appear for an episode or two, and get introduced to all the "new folks": Lois, Kara, and Jimmy. mean, we haven't seen him in 3 years, which is as long as he was on the show to begin with. I find it difficult to believe that in the last 78 episodes, Al & Miles couldn't find one storyline worthy of having him brought in. He had one reference in "Mortal", but otherwise I don't recall anyone mentioning him.
