SUPERGIRL Premieres in Season 7

I know I've just bumped a year old thread, but I wanted to ask a question. I haven't seen any episodes from season 7 yet(I know, I missed the premiere and I refuse to watch any of the others till I see the first one). I was very critical of Supergirl appearing in Smallville. I felt it was a lame attempt to boost ratings and try to get a spinoff. Now that season 8 is starting, how do you guys think Supergirl worked out? Was she a good contribution to the show, or was she just a cheap ratings booster?

I wasn't a big fan, but all things considered, she certainly wasn't the worst aspect of Season 7. Vandervoort did a solid job.

they tried...but i think ultimately in the larger scope of things it will seen as nothing more than the season rating booster.

I didn't mind her. Though its pretty clear she was very much so a gimmick by Al and Miles...hence why the new producers are dedicating just one episode this season to wrap her story.

I feel that she helped Clark get a better understanding of Krypton and gave him more insight on the house of El and his mother Lara. At the same time it was obvious that she was utilized as a gimmick of some sorts by Gouglar.

She would've been much better in a 3 or 4 episode spurt as opposed to the 13 that she appeared in.

And she wasnt brought in as a ratings boost (Supergirl isnt exactly hugely popular in mainstream and Vandervoort was an unknown). It's pretty much been confirmed that she was brought in as a potential spinoff character.

That's how I feel too. I liked her as a plot device to open up more about Clark's Kryptonian family, but there were times that the spin-off pimping crossed the line.

Still, I thought Laura was a nice addition to the show. I wish her well in her career.

Yeah I thought that Laura did a wonderful job of portraying Kara on the show.

I would have preferred just one - or none - but I wasn't a big fan. Ah, the memories of those discussions. LOL ;)

I think she *was* brought in as a ratings boost, but not just because she was Supergirl. There's a T&A side to SV that's always there - and it sells. Just look at the first promo photos of LV. Heh.

Yes, and then there was that, which I agree wholeheartedly with Serene - WAY too much pimping on spinoff potential.

I'm just glad she be returning . Hopefully The New TPTB end her storyarc with a worthy ending that will foreshadow her ultimate Future as Supergirl .

IMO the best way to do this is to send her back with the Legion .

I agree Kal...that is what they should do is sent her with the Legion.

We'll see though.

Maybe I dreamed it LOL. But I thought I heard or read that somewhere, I dunno. I talk to too many people to keep track. Hell, I really don't care where she goes, as long as she.... well, goes. LOL :p

that would be common sense and considering time travel she could come back when clark is older.

I thought she was going to Kandor?

Does Kandor even exist in smallville?
I would have thought knowing his race survived en masse would have come up.

As for the question, they never used Kara well enough. She was always away and then back for 3 episodes then away again. Its not hard to say that Clark can handle it so she stays at the farm rather than overbearing excuses for her to be gone. The new showrunners don't seem to care about her character at all. All in all though I'm pleased. I only ever expected one episode for the 'true' Kara like all the other super- characters had up until Justice so to get a whole season was great.

kandor was the city on krypton she lived and when krypton blew up kandor was gone along with the whole planet for smallville. I to wish she was coming back for the legion episode and sending her to the future to one day return to the present would have been the nice way to wrap her up. But legion isnt going to be filming to around dec probably after they get their month off for mid season break before they continue work on second half of the season and laura has stated she is coming in oct and as of right now it still looking to be episode 8.

No more Kara except for one final episode?:(
