I'd love an EMH moment like that. The Immigrant Song would be an awesome addition to it as well, but I doubt that will ever be used in any Avengers film as even if Thor would come to the rescue it's still an ensemble piece, and using that song is really highlighting Thor above all else.

I'm hoping for something similar to that EMH scene where the Avengers are losing the battle, then the weather darkens and there's thunder and Cap smiles. Spider-Man asks Cap why he's smiling and Cap replies "Because I can hear it. The thunder". Enter Thor with Stormbreaker (and Rocket and Groot) wreaking all sorts of havoc on the Outriders.

Basically what Superman's entrance in JL should have been. :funny:

I think this will happen but it will be a toe to toe fight vs Thanos.

Did Thor really get sidelined in Ultron? They added an entire scene of him going to a cave. He had plenty of screen time.

I think Thor is going to be more personally involved, given how the movie is likely to start [blackout]with the Asgardians being attacked by Thanos[/blackout], than he was with the events of AOU.

Take out the cave scene, and the movie wouldn't miss anything. It felt like the cave storyline was just to give him something to do. If I recall, the studio edited most of it.

Anyone else worried Thor’s arc will be mostly away from the main Avengers and just with the Guardians? It seems like his story will be revolved around
creating a new weapon to replace Mjolnir, which seems dumb since Ragnarok established he doesn’t even really need one
In IW the Avengers will be separated in several different groups as we see from the trailer. It's true that most of his journey seems to be more of a "side quest" with a specific purpose. But a "side quest" that will begin because of a first deadly encounter with Thanos and his crew. Thor will also be joined with 2 very prominent members of the GOTG, Rocket and Groot... If they choose to give Thor this important side mission of finding a new weapon then i fully expect for it to be payed down the line when Thor comes back and shows what he can do with that weapon and why he needed it in the first place.

It's not dumb that Thor chooses to have as much "firepower" as possible in a situation like this. He will be looking for all the help and advantage he can get after he, the revengers and everyone else gets obliterated by Thanos and his crew. Thor will only be doing the smart thing.

Ragnarok proved that mjolnir was not the source of his power. It was only there to focus it and help him in the journey he had to make. Having said that, Thor is extremely skilled with weapons and certain weapons giver him some things he otherwise can't have like flight... Even when in Beast Mode on the rainbow bridge he was still using asgardian swords.

When thing is to channel you're power through your fists. The other is to have that innate ability augmented by a blunt weapon with sharpe edges... We still don't know what Stormbreaker is capable of... In the comics "jarnbjorn" which had a sharp edge too was able to pierce the celestials armour and cut cut through virtually anything. Stormbreaker abilities can very well be key to some events of the movie down the line.

I mean, it's clear why they would do such a thing. Thor in his own right is truly a powerhouse, likely the only one who can stand to Thanos without being immediately overwhelmed. Granted, you may be saying that it makes even less sense to not include him, but I see exactly what they're doing.

Thor's weapon just might have the capability to break the Gauntlet and render Thanos vulnerable to our heroes(whoever isn't dead/ko'd) attacks. Then I'm assuming the gems will either be destroyed or sent somewhere beyond the grasp of any evil. Minus Vision gem which will likely go right back to him.

Big spoilers from one EW article.

Behind the scenes of Avengers: Infinity War as new heroes unite — and others will end

The sky is a raging sea of iron gray storm clouds, and a faraway rumble rolls across the countryside like something gigantic colliding with the other side of Earth.

Thor and Captain America are standing on an African savanna beside a sparkling river, back-to-back for the first time in ages, each reunited with his old friend while wielding new weapons. Cap’s red-white-and-blue shield is gone, replaced by a pair of vibranium gauntlets (courtesy of Black Panther’s genius little sister, Shuri), while Thor swings a mystical ax known as Stormbreaker, a supersized upgrade from his demolished hammer, Mjolnir.

The skyline of Wakanda’s capital city stands in the distance, and Cap and Thor are among hundreds of tribal warriors from throughout the nation, gathered at the river’s edge to join the heroes in facing down a horde of synthetic-alien demons known as the Outriders.

This is the front line of an epic battle in Avengers: Infinity War (out April 27), and it’s not just about saving the world this time — Earth’s mightiest heroes, and some from much farther away, are trying to save the entire universe from a cosmic tyrant who’d like to kill off half of it.

No pressure.

The Approaching Storm

Right now, the cast and crew of the biggest team-up in superhero-movie history have a real-world problem to confront. The river is fake, of course. It was dug out of this grassy horse field near Atlanta, and giant pumps at either end recirculate the water as needed. The savanna is a lot closer to Savannah, Georgia, than any plains of Africa. The fictional skyscrapers of Wakanda are represented for now by a greenscreen, and the Outrider attackers are actors in speckled motion-capture suits.

But the looming rainstorm happens to be real. Chris Hemsworth lowers his battle-ax and looks off into the distance, wondering aloud if he saw lightning. The God of Thunder is in a race against his own superpower.

If the production is close enough to see a flash, union rules *stipulate that everyone has to take shelter for 30 minutes. They might not have that long before the downpour begins, so directors Anthony and Joe Russo are hurrying to get their shots while supervising multiple camera units on different scenes.

For instance, on the other side of the river, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, the former Winter Soldier now known to his Wakandan friends as “White Wolf,” is laying waste to Outriders while Rocket — in the form of Sean Gunn, wielding a puppet stand-in — distracts him with some offers he can easily refuse.

“How much for the gun?” the furry dealmaker asks, admiring the firepower clutched by Bucky’s mechanical limb.

“It’s not for sale.”

“Okay, how much for the arm? The arm?” Rocket persists. (He has a weird thing about prosthetics.)

The strength of Infinity War is not just in assembling what appears to be the entire roster of Marvel’s cinematic superheroes in common cause; it’s in pairing the oddest of couples.

Even Hemsworth and Chris Evans, on the other side of the water, are watching video playback and conspiring to make Thor and Cap’s reunion just a little bit weirder as the dropships of Thanos strike the ground.

Evans suggests that when they bump into each other, they do what friends often do after being apart for a while: assess each other’s haircuts. In some ways, they’ve swapped styles. Thor has gotten a clean-cut trim, while Cap is sporting the ragged locks and beard.

“I’ll be like, ‘Short hair now? Good choice,’” Evans says, while miming a right hook against an invisible Outrider.

“And I’ll go, ‘Yours too. The beard. Very *rugged,’” Hemsworth says. They’re still workshopping it as they go back in front of the cameras. But before they can complete their takes, lightning crackles nearby, followed by curtains of stinging rain that send the whole production stampeding for cover. EW’s Day 1 on the set comes to an abrupt and muddy end.

Maybe that exchange between Cap and Thor will make it in, maybe it won’t. The thing about Infinity War is, you can’t really be sure what will survive.

That's exactly what I was thinking about!

I know this is a really minor thing to nit-pick, but the black, foam rubber looking stuff, coming out from under his armor looks really bad. Very amateur, IMO.

I'm pretty confident that the new weapon will be used to break the gauntlet as they wouldn't make such a big fuss about going to get one made at this crucial time if doing so wasn't crucial. And I also agree that there will likely be a 'shields down' type trigger moment near the end of the film when Thanos will finally become vulnerable and everyone will pile in on him to finish things.

I don't think Thanos will be defeated at the end of this film tbh.

Of course not. Otherwise Avengers 4 could be one of the most boring event movies to date!

That would literally not only make my year, but make my whole DECADE!

After doing a bit of research i wouldn't be surprised if Stormbreaker, Thor's new weapon, was later used to destroy Corvus Glaive's weapon and by doing that making him defeatable since he is basically indestructible otherwise.

Weapons

Glaive: Corvus wields a glaive capable of splitting atoms (meaning it can cut through virtually anything, including the thick hide of the Hulk and even the skin of Hyperion). If the blade remains unbroken, it allows his body to resurrect from any type of affliction, even from being atomized.

Thor is the only hero in IW that has a powerful enough weapon capable of doing some serious damage. I expect Stormbreaker to be similar to Mjolnir. Gamora most likely knows the Black Order, maybe she even trained with hem... So i think she will be the one to deliver some exposition on them and give everyone else some tips to take them down.

It's possible. I still kinda think if they're going to dedicate so much of the movie to Thor's quest to get a new weapon then it'll probably more likely be because they need it to destroy the Infinity Gauntlet than Corvus Glaive's weapon. It could be both though I suppose.

I'm pretty sure all that time spent on sending Thor to create Stormbreaker during such a huge event can only be justified if that weapon plays a key role. In other words being instrumental in something like breaking the gauntlet and making Thanos vulnerable.

Poor asgardians. They seem to be all wiped out by Thanos and his crew.
Accordingly to Rufallo, Banner is terrified because of what happened... This will only give Thor a bigger drive and have him not only search for revenge but also totally commit 100% to try and protect everyone else from the threat that is Thanos and his goons.

Will be interesting to see where Loki, Valkyrie, Hulk, Korg etc all are immediately after whatever happens at the beginning.

We know that Thor ends up with the Guardians and Hulk ends up on Earth. I think we also heard that Loki becomes some kind of advisor to Thanos...

So we still have to wonder what happens to Valkyrie, Heimdall, Korg, Miek... Hopefully they get on the Commodore and get the hell out of there. We also know that Valkyrie was filming in Edinburgh so maybe she and the others also come to Earth at some point. I also think that Heimdall may very well bite the dust and Loki too, the others i think are too new and popular do discard them now... at least i hope they won't be taken out.
