Infinity War Fortunately, I Am Mighty - The Thor Thread!

Infinity War had wrapped filming a while before Thor: Ragnarok had even been released, so their popularity could not have factored into any decision made to kill them off or not.

We know that Thor ends up with the Guardians and Hulk ends up on Earth. I think we also heard that Loki becomes some kind of advisor to Thanos...

So we still have to wonder what happens to Valkyrie, Heimdall, Korg, Miek... Hopefully they get on the Commodore and get the hell out of there. We also know that Valkyrie was filming in Edinburgh so maybe she and the others also come to Earth at some point. I also think that Heimdall may very well bite the dust and Loki too, the others i think are too new and popular do discard them now... at least i hope they won't be taken out.
It could be the end for Heimdall and Loki in this film or Avengers 4. Some characters are going to die and they both seem like ones that could go having been around a long time and had a fair shot, but still as supporting characters.

I honestly thought Heimdall was a goner in Ragnarok due to Idris Elba complaining about the role in recent years. But apparently working with Taika Waititi changed his mind, and Anthony Hopkins wasn't going to come back as Odin until he found out Taika was directing. Thor: The Dark World really soured a lot of people behind the scenes.

I don't think Elba is in a bad mood anymore since he's now gone on record saying he wants a bigger role in the MCU. Since he is a bigger star than the role he plays, Marvel may want to hold on to him but considering there isn't really anywhere else for Heimdall to go, it makes more sense to kill him off in this.

I think some actors use there current popularity as leverage. Elba is a great actor but he's been in a couple of blockbusters lately that have tanked at the box office. He was the next big thing but that has kinda waned in recent years. I doubt he turns down his Marvel check anytime soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if Thor actually "powers up" during this scene.

I wonder what's with the transparent arms on this figure? The name of it, and the background, does support your theory HD.

I'm guessing he ends up "powering up" in order to start the forge or something. We can see in that gif, that he struggles to do whatever he is doing, so him powering up would give him the capability to jump start the forge or do whatever he needs to do.

The transparent arms is probably the best way they found to show with the toy that Thor is controlling the lightning. I'm really excited to see the disk light up in IW. I think it could be a really cool visual.

Some stuff said by the Russos relating to Thor, Ragnarok, Taika...
When they had this interview Ragnarok hadn't been released yet.

Anthony Russo: We have a lot of conversations with people constantly, we have a lot of talks with Taika — because that movie isn’t finished and he had executed things on set that we needed real information about, tonally, about the direction it was going in.

Anthony Russo: Thor brings his. (Talking about characters/movies bringing their own music/energy to IW)

Joe Russo: Thor has a whole different … Taika [Waititi] has a new approach to Thor, as you’ve seen in the trailer. So all that energy is combined.

You were saying earlier that every character is someone’s favorite character. Is there anyone in particular that you guys are excited for the audience to react to?

Is there a specific arc, a specific character, or even a pairing …

Joe Russo: I think between Ragnarok and this film, I think Thor has a really compelling arc. I think he’s a pretty fascinating character and I think he’s going to jump to the forefront of people’s minds as a pivotal marvel character after Ragnarok.

That they've gone from talking about that Thor was one of the characters they looked forward to writing the most, to these statements, I think we're in for perhaps the best showing of Thor in an Avengers film. Us Thor fans are getting spoiled having first gotten Ragnarok and now this in such short time.

I'm so excited I can scream, see you later Joss Whedon you won't be missed.

He always seemed to treat Thor as the butt of every joke. I'm glad that the Russo Bros are excited about Thor's arc in the next couple of films.

Anxiously waiting for some Thor awesomeness in the IW trailer!

I just realized this. The woodchopping scene in Age Of Utron ("Thor didn't say where he was looking for answers?") a foreshadowing for the Stormbreaker quest.

I said this before and i mention it again. I do think Thor is going to have a new eye back in IW. Most likely given to him by Rocket.
I have seen plenty of promotional stuff with him, no eye patch and the scar so i am leaning heavily to this theory. I mean look at his eye.

"I think between Ragnarok and this film, I think Thor has a really, really compelling arc," said Russo. "I think he's a pretty fascinating character, and I think he's going to jump to the forefront of people's mind, as a pivotal Marvel character, after Ragnarok and this."

"We grew up executing projects that were in a similar vein as Taika's sensibility. Arrested Development, Community," said Russo. "We jive very well with Taika, and with the direction he's taking that character in. I think that we always want and desire, as filmmakers, pathos as well, out of our characters. We find that humor and pathos in combination create a more profound experience for you. I think that Taika has done that very well in Ragnarok. We now get to take Thor on a really compelling journey."

They are keeping Thor and Stormbreaker very tight to the vest. Still... he barely shows up and early classes up the place. Visually stunning stuff.

And Thanks puts the hurt on him.

I hope Thor puts up a fight, Thanos and Thor has had some pretty badass fights in the comics.

Of course Thor is going to lose, but I hope he knocks Thanos on his ass atleast ONCE with a lightning powered punch.

Definitely, glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that.

He treated Thor better in Age of Ultron though, Thor was one of the highlights of the movie.

Loved this so much. Rocket and Groot in awe of Thor.
Probably the first time they witness him showing his power when he wields Stormbreaker.

I'm falling in love with Thor's new look.

Thor looks really good and I love Rocket's stare of awe.

I think Thor and his crew gets handled with relative ease just becauase it will be an early scene and part of building up Thanos and his children. I think that also means that Thor will make all that much more of a comeback with his new weapon and really bring the thunder.

Do you think Thor is on Nidavellir in the trailer when he summons the lightning?

Man, it's not looking good for the Asgardians :csad:.

I hope some do survive though as if they all said it makes the events of Ragnorak pretty pointless.

Do you think Thor is on Nidavellir in the trailer when he summons the lightning?

Yes, that would be my guess as that makes perfect sense. It seems to be empty though so maybe the dwarves are extinct?

Something tells me Thor will survive because Loki opted to save him from Thanos in exchange for the Tesseract
