You want to hear something funny?

Well, I am in UT at Brownsville. Almost 75% of the students here are of Mexican families. Well, I've heard stories about them going in a group to france. They were four and all of them knew spanish. A guy that was helping them out, who also happened to know spanish, told them to act like Mexicans and to not speak english if they wanted to be treated well.

So yeah...

Also, many who have traveled to France may know this, but Paris people are a-holes.

And also, pretty much every country in America hates people from the USA, except Canada.

But then again, US has screwed South and Center America so bad...

Heh, I have a friend who goes to Brownsville, who's from Mexico, but she's here in Ohio for the summer. Got another friend from Mexico who knows French as well.

Actually, I've been curious about a similar topic. I'll be going to Germany next year to visit a friend in the army, and am wondering about what I can expect from the average German. Should I prepare myself for a lot of rudeness or is it not so bad?

If you go to Hamburg or Frankfurt you might find a few who might be a little brusk with you, but overwhelmingly Germans tends to be very friendly and helpful, and large numbers of them speak English. They also tend to be very patient with you attempting to speak German even just a little bit(according to several of my German friends they consider just the effort on your part a polite gesture, so they reciprocate) and will help you/work to understand you.

That's no way to go, Franco Un-American!
yeah, they should have the common courtesy to adopt English as their national language, shouldn't they?!

Ultimate Captain America kicks ass! Imma start reading those comics

The general consensus is we both hate each other. The US liberated France in two World Wars and then refused to let us use an airbase in the 80's to launch a rescue of prisoners in Iran. But all that has or will change I'm sure. Just look at US relations with Germany and Japan. All friends now. '

Sorry, I guess I didn'tr eally add anything usefull to this thread.

They're written by a liberal and Captain America is largely a satire of conservatism.

Why can't conservatives grasp satire? Do they lack the satire lobe in their brains or something:down

I figured I could ask this board, since I know that we have some French hypesters that frequent here.

I'm looking for quotes and/or passages either about the French talking about America or the American talking about the French. Can you help me out? (especially on the French talking about America bit)

Well, being French-Canadian, I have a unique point of view from both sides, and here's my conclusion: The French and the Americans are SO alike, it's not even funny. They both think (in general) that they're better than everyone, that they're the center of the world, that their food, their movies, their entire culture is infinitely superior than everyone else's... America and France make a cute couple. ;)

Their music industry is the same. The top 40 in France looks like a carbon copy rip-off of partly ours and partly the British--all the time and stays up to date, pretty much. I think a lot of it has the tendency to suck even more than American popular music, if that's even possible.

Infact, I'd say it goes like this, going from bearable to cheesy.

American/Latino>British>French.

But the American, British, French, and Latino to a certain extent, all sound Americanized.

And then the non-popular genre music, can be good no matter what country it's from.
