Is it weird that for the longest time I thought that Frank Miller was just a writer?
To me he might as well be a pure writer, Batman year one, daredevil born again and dark knight returns are all his best work with someone else on art duties.

It's so wild to me that within a 1 year window, 1986-1987, Miller bangs out:

Daredevil: Born Again
Daredevil: Love & War
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
Batman: Year One
Elektra: Assassin

That's not even to factor in his post-Hollywood return to comics in the 90s: Elektra Lives Again, Sin City, Hard Boiled, Big Guy & Rusty the Boy Robot, The Man Without Fear, RoboCop vs Terminator and Martha Washington.

His journey off the rails post-9/11 has been STEEP but I'm still a sucker for anything with his name on it. Just wish he had a better colorist and an actual inker.

I’ve always wanted to read Martha Washington but never gotten around to it. Anybody got any opinions on it?

One of the worst declines I have ever seen, wild thats it's the same guy

You all are too hard on Frank. I mean, not many people can do art like this:

A lesser artist wouldn’t have characters with hands the size of their torsos.

And who needs backgrounds when you can have characters just floating in the panel?

For the record: I like Frank's art up to Xerxes from a few years back. After that, from an illustrating standpoint, he needs an inker and someone who understands his art as anything other than realistic to do the colors.

He's been teasing a new Sin City story for years now. I'd love to see how he sculpts white from blank ink in his current style now.

I like The Dark Knight Returns as a story, but I've never been a fan of the artwork,

I like the artwork of The Dark Knight Returns for The Dark Knight Returns. I think it perfectly captures and represents the ugliness and decay of Gotham City, its culture, and it people in a way that I don’t think “good” artwork could have properly done.

I’m with you in that it’s generally not my style, but it’s like Alex Ross’s art in Kingdom Come. I couldn’t imagine it any other way. The artwork reflects the themes of the book directly.
