Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns Animated

Looks incredible. Really, really stupid that its 2 parts. It's animation there is absolutely no reason for 2 parts besides money. Stupid

Have you read the book? IMO, it's perfectly logical that it's 2 parts and if it wasn't, we'd lose so much of the story.

How would you lose story. It's animation, they literally can do the whole book panel for panel if they want. The footage looks incredible and I really love Weller as a Batman. Also the blu ray cover looks bad ass

WB only gives a (rough) 75 minute budget for each feature and due to declining sales for the line they don't seem willing to expand it.

So it was either:

- Squeeze the entire story into a 75 min runtime.
- Split it into two parts
- Not do it at all.

This was the best option all round.

Yeah, but who still wants to pay 40$ for 150 minute movie? 2013 will likely have a double-pack Blu-ray feature. :)

Exactly... some people can always hold off for the double feature release.

The best of both worlds.

I'm having a mixed reaction to this, some things look cool, some things doesn't.
Don't like the voice acting for the mutant-leader at all for example and I'm not sold on the animation/style itself. Weller as Batman sounds cool though and some scenes seems as awesome as they are in the book.

I don't care much for animated adaptations of comic-books as they tend to be too faithful to the source material and I don't need a cartoon to tell me what's going on in between each panel, but this one I'll watch out of curiosity, just because I can't pass on The Dark Knight Returns...

I've yet to watch Year One though...

I like Weller's voice a lot though I do wish the animation was better but I've felt that way about pretty much all the animated DC flicks. Definitely looking forward to seeing this.

Yeah this is definitely a day one purchase. I've really liked everything I've seen so far.

Look... Andrea Romano acheived perfection when she got Kevin Conroy...

I imagine it's hard when she has to keep casting the role and was probably thinking outside the box for Year One.

I think I'm the only one who dug McKenzie's Batman in Year One.

Oh I didn't realize they had such a paltry budget. Yeah splitting into 2 is the best way of doing it

There are parts of the movie where it sounds like Chris Walken doing Batman.

"From here...it looks...ALMOST...civilized."

Give the guy a break... he was reading Frank Miller dialogue. It almost always comes across as flat.

What don't you like about the animation?

Apart from some questionable designs in some of the movies, the animation has been pretty good for the most part with the DVD movies.

Don't worry, i liked it too.

However, now i am reminded of my disappointment on the lack of "Yes Father. I shall become a Bat" line. :( It's my favorite scene in Year One.

Peter Weller is going to be delivering some awesome quotations for sure.

I'm just messing around. Miller's dialogue is flat, but as we've seen from Michael Ironside and now Peter Weller, it is deliverable.

I hope they manage to somehow put both parts together into 1 cohesive/continuous film on 1 disc. DVDs can get films and TV shows nearing 3 hours runtime on them. Plus everyone knows blu-ray can hold more already.

I know for a fact that I'm not the only person who wishes for that option.
These might be the first od the DC animated movies that I don't buy, just for that reason alone lol, as I'm gonna wait. If they don't do it that way, guess I'll buy both later down the line.

Sometimes it feels too stilted and it comes across as cheap which is understandable cause they don't have the biggest budgets for them. I mean it's not enough to hinder the movies for me but imagine a DC movie with the fluid animation of a 2D Disney movie? :shock

That being said I've enjoyed the ones I've seen. Particularly Wonder Woman, All-Star Superman and Under the Red Hood more so than the others.

Who ever is doing Gordon's voice, is wrong...

Sounds like he is 25 years old.
