And a message to my fellow reading compatriots, a wondering about projected conventions for people only viewing the HBO series.

Can you imagine the reactions we'll see when the show gets to the Red Wedding in a couple years?

something like this

lol.

And actually, you know, I absolutely forgot that the Baratheon family has ties to Targaryen ancestry through marriage. That was part of Robert's claim to the throne, not just that he won the war. Random FYI to whoever didn't know that.

seriously....its because they want to act like smarty pants' and say Martin wrote himself into a corner and blah blah blah

like I said before....people SAY they want surprises and something different, and they get it, and then piss and moan about said surprise

I'm not one complaining but on the comment of wanting a surprise or something different and then complaining, you have to deliver something good that's different or surprising, not some half-assed attempt or obvious alteration meant merely to do something different with no thought to whether it makes sense or not.

I always like a well done change to an otherwise conventional storyline that you don't see coming and makes perfect sense. It doesn't have to be a Sixth Sense plot twist but at least make some effort to not make your characters and story predictable to the very end.

Once more, I've never read the books but intend to and I'm definitely not complaining about the way the story so far has gone in the television series and while I'd love to see certain characters succeed or fail, I'm not going to protest if things don't go that way as it would be something different and hopefully given a good explanation why.

you'll get your explanations when Martin is good and ready to give them to you

Can someone find me this photo in higher resolution?

What is this from?

I threw my book across the room when the event I referenced happened.

... I then ran over to it, picked it up, cuddled it, made sure I had not inflicted any meaningful damage to it, reread the chapter, and continued on.

I've decided to start reading the series. I just got hired for a job that will require me to commute by train for an hour and a half a day, five days a week. Perfect opportunity to start.

I need to start reading them as well. Been reading more about Jon Snow theories, the show barely touched on the hints form the first book.

GRRM is milking every penny till he dies...He probably has already written book 6 and 7 and just makes frequent changes to it. But knowing him based off things he likes to do (events, scripts, and more shows) He wants to make boatload of money and ride it all the way to the bank.

What a coincidence that book 5 is released right after season 1...However, GRRM has become so mainstream that he may be forced to sit down and complete the 6th book in another 3 years. Then book 7 will be released...when season 6 of Game of Thrones is finished

Oh, you're one of those fans.

What does one of those fans mean?. A fan who waited almost 7 years for the 5th book to release? A fan who has followed GRRM's blogs forever to read that he was close to being done with book on Jan 1, 2008...But pulls a 'lol wtf' and never provided any update after that for a year and a half...Please, give me a break :whatever:

There's a difference between angry for waiting fans (which most of GRRM fans fall into) and conspiracy theory fans. That post fell into the conspiracy theory territory and I've never really had any patentice for the conspiracy theorist, sorry just don't buy it.

What's wrong with GRRM actually making money off his work? There's no writers out there that won't do the exact same thing. Kudos to him for actually deliver the goods and not someone who got rich thanks to teenage girls' obsession with sparky vampires.

Do you have any idea what goes into publishing a book? Like, at all. Cause I assure you it's a lot more complicated than you think. Even top tier writers have to deal with re-writes and delays and various other things like how much time their editors or test-readers can give their books before they're actually published that could be very out of Martins hands.

Hell, of the old Dragonlance books I used to read one of the authors quit the business cause she was tired of having books come out a year or two after she had finished writing them and the amount of delays and extra steps before a book gets published are outrageous.

Add to that the massive amount of details and planning GRMM's gone into...

Do you want me to share with you people who can throw out 1400 page books in less then 7 years?

He didnt seem to have a problem getting books out every 2-3 years...Clash of Kings and Storm of Swords came out pretty fast and they are the largest in the series...Do some research first, you dont seem to know about the development of these set of books and GRRM...Like, at all.

No problem making the large sums of money...I'd do the same, but come on, don't deprive readers of this for 7 years...Many of these fans have expressed concern that Martin will leave his fantasy series unfinished, in the same fashion as deceased author Robert Jordan did with his lengthy Wheel of Time series.

Martin is also strongly opposed to any type of fan fiction, believing it to be copyright infringement and a bad exercise for all aspiring writers. He never gives permission for any of his intellectual property to be used in fan fiction.

Also, he has stated he will take the series to the ground with him if he passed away during this time. So like someone else who picked the Jordan series, that wont happen with this...GRRM hates that and the series will end with him.

He is 62 though and surely he can live a longer and greater life, but he has had some major health problems in the past.

I've never heard that this is the case... I know he finds the question incredibly morbid when asked about it and has jokingly said "tough s**t". But I've never seen anywhere that he'll take this series to his grave. He has however given David and Dan (the producers of the show) an outline of how the thing will end.

Yes, the show will go on...Good thing for that. Personally, I am happy a tv show was made for this, because when books are magnified it creates new life for authors and hopefully George knows its better to get these books out faster then later...Best time is now while the series is gaining steam on TV.

Just like the Harry Potter series matched vs the movies throughout time...He cant wait another 14 years to finish the books, dont think the tv writers and media will be waiting for that.

not to mention, the writers have creative freedom to do what they like with the show...I doubt the show will go into limbo if the series catches up and the following book is not out. Rights are passed on and I think that is a good thing.

People have major issues with GRRM because of all the promises he has made and the worst was announcing the 5th book with be out more then 3 years ago that fall on his website. But as time passed he even failed to update the readers on that.

If he is that opposed to another writer finish his work, then I do agree that he should hurry up and give the series a proper ending since 62 isn't young, and nobody wants to see the story half-finished.

Yes, and that was also 10-15 years ago when he begun writing all these things, before a majority of his health issues arose and before he hit that ever-so-greying-moment of 60 years old.

The mind goes to **** between years 50 and years 60 for a LOT of people, let alone a guy that's trying to - essentially - write this longass epic on his own.

I just think it hilarious how you and other like you feel somehow ENTITLED to have things done your way and actually get angry when they don't.

Wait 7 years to a read a book you really like, as I have.

Would have been really awesome to have the 6th harry potter book end the way it did and have JK Rowling gone for 7 years before ending the series...Loyal fans who actually read the books at that time have lived it like I have...I don't think you waited 7 years, it will change a person's perspective.

In fact, most have been waiting since the end of Storm of Swords (3rd book) because the 4th book is essentially just half of a book and barely anything significant is going down.
