Game of Thrones thread for non-book readers, since there has been far too much spoiling, spoiler boxes, and 'harr de harr I'm only hinting at things to come instead of saying them outright but unknowingly have given details away already" in the other Game of Thrones thread.

So, non-book readers only, and if book readers drop by, please go away. However, if you insist on staying, no teasing future events, no spoiling things to come, no spoiler boxes or blackout text, and no hinting even if you think you aren't giving stuff away you usually are.

Anyhoo, I really enjoyed episode 9. Bit of a letdown in some ways, since nothing major happened compared to previous episode 9's, so hopefully something of some significance happens this coming week. I have my monday off here in Australia, so I'm looking forward to catching the episode shortly after the US viewers.

I'll also be interested to see what happens with the Hound and Ayra. I find it hard to believe they would not accept her into the Eyrie just because Lysa died.

EDIT: We can talk openly about new episodes and past ones, but I think we should put in spoiler boxes events of episodes that have just been released that day. The day after its open season. That way people who recorded it or watched it later won't wander in and be spoiled.

Ouch, I accidentally called it 'non-booker readers'. Not sure how to change that, can someone help me out here?

Good call, it's always scary to go into that thread as a non-book reader.

Episode 9 was pretty epic, can't wait to see how Jon snow tries to stop the willing leader.

Yeah. I remember last year some dimwit thought s/he was not spoiling anything by posting "I can't wait to see what the non-readers' reactions to Robb and Cat dying next episode will be like." Robb and Cat had blackout text over them, but they still blatantly revealed that two major character were going to die in S03E09. Pathetic.

And yeah. I doubt Jon will kill him though. I think maybe the Wildlings will get through and roll over the North. Not that we care, since at least that will kill the Boltons and then the Freys.

Have not been on the Game of Thrones thread in awhile so haven't been keeping an eye on what's been happening. Still... wasn't there an agreed ruling by the moderators that upcoming events were strictly banned topics and that discussing such events (which would have thus far have only happened in the books) were to be constrained to the dedicated "A Song of Ice and Fire" thread in the "Books and Music" section of the forum?

Have the mods not been enforcing the rules?

I still prefer the idea of an entire forum for the GOT series but this is the best alternative to that, thanks. :woot:

I do think that Ygritte's death in the last episode was a major thing in addition to the attack itself. Not in the overall story, at least nothing obvious, but her death, the capture of what's-his-name and the attack on the wall will have an impact on the future of the North.

The ramifications are huge if the wall falls and that they only just kept it from happening with so few men (now even fewer) means they will have to find some way to reinforce it or lose it all.

I haven't seen the preview for the finale episode, not read the books and don't know who/what is going to be focused on in it but I'm wanting to see where Arya, Sansa, Tyrion, Bran and the rest are standing before we lose them for another season.

I think the big moment of episode nine is that we get to see Jon stepping up into a new role. It's not as shocking as what's been in the past episode nines. The events of episode nine have been set up as far back as season two, when Qhorin Halfhand took some of the crows, including Jon, scouting beyond the Wall.

Yeah, Jon literally stepped up to the role and showed he had some balls to command the troops and keep them organized and saved their lives. The rest of the commanders were so cowardly or stubborn they would have lost it all had he not taken over.

I think Ser Alliser gave a good accounting. Slynt...well if it isn't a baby, he turns into a baby. Heh.

I think Alliser was one who acceded to giving Snow command above the wall, wasn't he? So many of them I can't keep track of who was who. Although he also admitted to being stubborn and not filling the tunnel when they had the chance either.

Ah, yes, a safe haven.

Anyways, I enjoyed episode nine, but yeah, nothing to get excited too much. I just hope my work schedule works out on Sunday to catch the episode at a reasonable time.

I'm a non-book reader, but ever since the Red Wedding was spoiled to me, I just lost interest in keeping myself unspoiled to future events and I've decided to read ahead of the current storyline in the television series from the Song of Ice & Fire wiki and I knew the fate of most of the characters up to the latest book. I wish I haven't done that though, as I wish I could feel the same reaction other non-book watchers were feeling as I've seen them in Youtube, and the only thing that kept me watching this series was its rich mythology.

Completely agree with the opening post....hope this thread sticks around!

I hope Jon cuts a deal. He's the one I hope is last man standing...which probably isn't a good thing once you have a favorite on this show.

There are only a few who I don't want to see die at all or until the very end. Tyrion is the biggest one. Sansa has become interesting too so I'd like to see her last long enough to make up for her past weakness. Arya and the Hound are the most intriguing duo I've seen in some time.

Jon until recently I was kind of hoping would die already but he was/is needed as a POV for The Wall right now. He finally became interesting this past week so I expect he'll meet some kind of grizzly end or loss of limb soon.

Jon is going, unarmed, into a camp of wildlings and giants. I don't think they know that he's turned on them (unless there's another warg that was in communication with the Thenn's warg). My theory is that Jon's going to try to talk Mance out of it. We've seen that Jon isn't afraid to fight dirty: stabbing Karl while his back was turned, spitting in Styr's face. If there's no other choice, Jon may well strangle Mance. I got the impression from season two that Mance is the glue holding the wildling host together.

I think Ser Alliser gave a good accounting. Slynt...well if it isn't a baby, he turns into a baby. Heh.
Even if it's a baby he needs his armour, a sword and the rest of his men backing him up! Yeah Alliser definitely showed why he was the guy in charge all this time. Wonder if we see him again. He doesn't look dead anyway.

Same for me. I had Ned & Joffrey's death spoiled the day I started watching the show. After that I did pretty much the same thing (although I'm also going to read the books to where we are in the series, on the 2nd at the moment). I don't regret it at all though as I read it all like an encyclopaedia of Westeros learning about everything gradually and what seemed like a natural way and to me it was a lot of fun doing it like that. Plus I could read about GoT on the internet for the next few years rather than having to tiptoe around everything. Even if I stayed in solitary confinement some idiot would find a way of telling me just before I watch the episode..I'm lucky like that. You know people who are going to watch the show AND read the books, watching the show 1st is spoiling the books while reading the books is spoiling the show. :woot:

Non book readers DO NOT go to EW.com! Their home page has a massive spoiler about a character! This major event hasn't happened yet in the show. If you don't want to be spoiled stay off of EW.com! They need their ass kicked!

Thanks for the warning.

Great episode. What did we all think? The book readers are all ranting about something missing. I'm starting to read the first book as of yesterday, so I imagine I'll know in a year's time or so given their length and my studies.

As for what happened...wow. Glad Tywin is dead, but that felt like such a hollow victory. Shae's character continues to not make sense - I get the feeling the showrunners mader her more sympathetic and then got strangled by the inevitability of what was coming.

That Brienne and Hound fightscene was messy, but fantastic.

Stannis the Mannis turning up was awesome, but also showed how poorly edited these last two episodes were. They definitely should have put that at the end of the last episode, makes much more sense and would have felt like an awesome conclusion.

And when Varys decides it's time to leave King's Landing you know things are well and truly bad.

Awesome episode. My thoughts:

I was surprised to see the Mountain alive as I was sure he was dead.

I enjoyed watching the foolish dragon girl Daenerys Targaryen lose control over her children. That may just be the beginning.

Poor Jojen. I liked him.:(

That fight between Brienne and the Hound was nuts! She bit his ****ing ear off! The Hound begging Arya to finish him off was well performed by Rory McCann.

Goddammit! Tywin's dead! What an embarrassing way to die! Damn you, Tyrion! Damn you!:argh:

Glad Jojen is dead. It was either that or a personality insertion.

Overall, good season. I think I liked Season 3 better. Not because of things happening, but Season 4 felt really badly paced and edited, and some terrible directorial decisions cough Alex Graves cough.

Good ending, but I don't think it reached the peak of the second episode. Best part for me was the end of Arya and the Hound's journey. I usually don't get react much to the show and can get through a lot, but Arya ditching the dying Hound was hard to watch, even if I did see it coming.

Tyrion killing Shae and Twyin was also good. I heard that Shae is...different in the books, so that may explain why her character was confusing in the show.

As others mention, the stuff with Jon Snow and the Wall felt more like part of last week's episode. It also would have made Stannis's appearance even more surprising. It was nice to see the two threads interwine.

Hopefully Bran's journey starts to get interesting now that they've reached their destination. His parts are the ones I've not cared about this season. So, hopefully that'll pick up.

Overall I really liked the episode. I kind of disagree with people about Shae not making sense. I've heard she's different in the books, but throughout the show when she's with Tyrion, she has shown to be incredibly stubborn. I never got it that she was out of character in not understanding why Tyrion was trying to get rid of her, but more that she was too stubborn to accept it. And when he finally let it drop, she became purely vengeful.

I'm really interested to see the new foils in the show. I mean this season lost two amazing villains during it, so it'll be interesting to see who comes in to replace them. I really kind of feel bad for the actor/actress that is told they have to replace Joffrey and Tywin as the go to hated person, because they both just did it SO good.
