A Thread of Theories and Speculation [spoilers]

Damn, that's an awesome theory. Only thing is, if it's someone who wants the Wall to come down then wouldn't it be a servant of the Great Other? Melisandre is a R'Hllor follower and she said in her POV chapter that the Wall must not fall. Perhaps it's related to Bloodraven in some way.

My idea is that the person is just out of their mind, and thinks that the Wall has to come down, because the final battle between R'Hllor and the Great Other HAS to happen. He's so confident that R'Hllor will win out, that he kickstarts the battle to get to the peace and prosperity that follows after R'Hllor wins. I thought about it a bit, and my pick for the follower would be Benerro, the high priest in Volantis. It's said that the leaders of that city fear him because he's so powerful, so he might also be rich as well (enough to afford a Faceless Man). And he is massively behind the idea that Dany is Azor Ahai, so he might try to start the apocalypse that would spring her into action and "fulfil her destiny".

Hmm yeah I guess I could get behind that. Whatever it is, there's definitely a reason for why Ja'qen H'gar is snooping around Oldtown and will inevitably run into Sam...

Just speculation of course but I can't believe The Wall will be up by the end of this show. It's too much of an awesome set piece waiting to happen for that potential not to be realised.

Who wrote [blackout]the pink letter?[/blackout]

I've seen the theories that say [BLACKOUT]Mance actually wrote the letter, and that it is a coded message. I honestly couldn't say, one way or the other. My first impression was that Ramsay wrote it, and he just filled it with a mix of lies, half-truths, and truths. I had assumed some of it had to be true, since Ramsay wouldn't even know about Mance unless he caught him. But if Mance wrote it, then it could all just be a secret message, and anything could be happening at Winterfell. I don't know, haha. I look forward to that storyline playing out probably more than any other currently going.[/BLACKOUT]

I think A Dream of Spring is going to take place during the Long Night. Not sure if that's a popular theory or anything because I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, but it isn't hard to make the connection between "Dream" and "Night". The former has connotations of something which may never come, and as we all know the title of the preceding book tells us that we'll be firmly in the midst of winter-y Westeros.

TWOW is going to have a downer ending, hopefully with the White Walkers finally breaching the Wall and attacking the Seven Kingdoms, paving the way for a triumphant victory of sorts from Jon or whoever. Although, knowing Martin, I've probably gotten it all wrong :oldrazz:

for me, the Battle for [BLACKOUT]Winterfell[/BLACKOUT] has already taken place, even before Jon's last chapter in ADWD.

This is what I think (and a popular theory) it will happen:

Manderly and Frey face Stannis.
Frey is on the front, Manderly on the rearguard.

The Freys are drowned in the frozen lake, and the Manderlys finish them off, earning Stannis's trust.

Then, Manderly returns to Winterfell with Stannis's sword and presents it to the Boltons.

Ramsay, always hot-headed, immediately starts brashing about having defeated Stannis and sends the Pink Letter to Jon.

At night, the Manderlys open the gates to Stannis, and Achilles is killed by an arrowwwait that's another story :woot::woot:

I love r/asoiaf because of all the theories. so many tinfoils.

i like this recent one I've read about the mummers dragon being the tattered prince.

and another about euron being a white walker.

Some parts of the letter do have [blackout]wildling terminology, and the writer used "bastard" often in place of Jon's name or titles. Mance also referred to Jon as "bastard" multiple times when they dueled (while Mance was glamored to look like the Lord o' Bones.[/blackout]

there's a couple of youtube videos about the letter.

:wow: Who told some journalists that Tyrion [blackout]would meet a White Walker in disguise?[/blackout]

The one thing I should correct is that [blackout]Jon found the cache of dragonglass daggers and the horn, not Sam. But Sam did eventually come into possession of it, and has it with him during his trip to Oldtown.[/blackout]

So I was checking out the extras on the GOT S3 blu-ray and they have Stannis narrating the history of Dragonstone.

Apparently (or this is well known) it's the holy grail of dragonglass.

Stannis orders the people at Dragonstone to start mining it, when he learns about how effective they are.

Knowing GRRM...you probably got it right. He loves downer endings and getting rid of "good guy" type characters.

Nah, I could very well see Drogon dying and Dany being taken captive for whatever reason. I just don't see things ending very well for her. Especially now.

Yes. She is a likable and good character.....so those types usually don't last long. I think it will end bad for her also unfortunately.

Thanks for that, that was an enjoyable listen.

I seriously don't think the Dragons are going to be much of help, especially since no one can properly train them.

The theory my wife and I had was that they will need the dragons' fire to stop the white walkers. Dany can't seem to control the large dragon anymore...but Bran might be able to. :awesome:

In the first book during his coma after the fall, he has a dream
where he's falling from thousands of feet in the air and while he's falling the raven was next to him telling him to fly.
Although that wasn't in the show, I still think it's forshadowing for him to control the dragon.

They say that dragons are "fire made flesh." I think Bran would be immolated if he tried it. Now, in the book [blackout]Bran sees something like a winged serpent rising from the ruins of Winterfell after Ramsay sacked it. Some believe this indicates a dragon sleeps below Winterfell.[/blackout]

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Bran just controls their mind.

The
dragon is Jon. though i do think Bran will warg into the dragon that Jon will fly.
