I asked a mod to change the title, thanks TheCorpulent1.

So I just got 3 free months of HBO. I've also recently "lost" the only show that was event television for me. I need a new show to tune into every week and I'm thinking this might be the one for me.

I'm a big Fantasy fan and I can't believe I've not read even one of these books. I'm a big fan of series like Dragonlance.

So tell me... is this gonna be my new show? Will not having read the books help or ruin my experience?

Whadda ya think guys?

:thing: :doom: :thing:

Well considering we don't really know you or your tastes I really can't say if this will be your new show. If you are a Dragonlance fan then this is gonna be totally more brutal and more of a mind-f.

Nor can I comment on if reading the books will ruin the experience of the TV show since non of us have seen the show yet. Just a bunch of fans of the books here.

The KG's armor is different from what is described from the books but I think it looks good, has a nice vibrant colors to it.

Well they probably had a good reason to change it, if not it doesn't matter since it's too late to change it now.

Yes, No, and keep HBO and watch, you won't be disappointed. You can blame me if you are.

With the pace that the books are being written, I'm scared that the series will catch up to the novels too fast. It's taken Martin 5+ years to finish a book that was meant to be a part of the fourth book anyway.
It's not the same way it is with True Blood, where there are 9 or more books, and the author is putting a book out almost every year.
I'm just wondering if maybe the series has become too much of a priority for Martin, and is affecting his writing abilities.

Tyrion = TV gold
Too much greatness to compute in that clip!
Joff on the Irone Throne!

Ugh, just finished reading this part in A Storm of Swords

Red Wedding *sobs*

Martin will definitely die before finishing the series. Get used to the idea now. I doubt they will make all the published books into series anyway. From the trailer they are staying pretty close to the book, which is great. But I don't see them changing out the entire cast in 2 or 3 seasons, do you?

The show is expensive and for an audience that may or may not turn out in enough droves to justify it. IF it's a big hit, we can likely look forward to book 2. But I think there's a reason we haven't seen A Song of Ice & Fire on any of the marketing.. not too many people behind the scenes are expecting this to last.

that fat bastard is going to pop his clogs before finishing the series....I ****ing know it

Yeah, I was just thinking that myself. I'm sure he has some Maester looking over him and force feeding him the milk of the poppy to keep him alive enough to finish ;)

That's pretty morbid man. Just FYI they've started some pre-production for season 2 already (scouting Iceland and Morraco) and I guess you haven't been reading a lot of the press this show has been getting already (a multi page spread in EW), critics gushing about it (the books, and the pilot). It's also less expensive than Rome due to all the breaks Northern Ireland is giving this production.

Jason Momoa is in this right? One of my favorites from SG Atlantis. :)

I'm still hoping he manage to finish the series, after the fifth one it's only two left to go, but the pacing of the writing is what I'm worried about, especially if it would take as long as the current book right now. But if he doesn't manage to finish the series, I do hope he at least would have found a predecessor before his death.

He better bloody well not. If it happens that would be two series that I've read for it to happen, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time saga. Which we talked about happening around the 3rd book or so.

I seriously can't wait for this. The trailers and pictures released so far has been jaw-dropping.
Some of the characters looks faithful to the books especially Eddard Stark who is unbelievable accurate.
I can't believe it is coming out in just three months. :yay:
