Sci-Fi Gareth Edwards's Jurassic World Rebirth

It was fun how we established a few times during the movie that the dinosaurs were dying out and the last few were only able to survive around certain tropical islands near the equator, only for the movie to end with our stupid kid bringing Dolores back with her, pretty much signing her death warrant in the process.

Like an hour after the movie, I texted my friend "hey what happened to Dolores?!?!" Felt like the movie stopped caring about her once she fulfilled the "cuteness" quotient. :funny:

And how does that even work for future movies? Everyone gonna be stupid to go to Dino land just for a thrill of it and chaos ensues?

In the movie's defense, the T-Rex Raft scene is peak. Probably top 5 for me.
IDK, I think because it's a scene that was previously written, I had so much time to envision and build it up in my head that I found the end results kinda anticlimactic and a little clunky, tbh. Don't get me wrong, it was still cool, but it could have been cooler, imo. It was fine. Better than the T-Rex moments in the other World movies, I guess.

It was certainly the best scene in the movie. I mean, the only reason it didn’t hit as hard as something from the original is because… who cares about that family lol

I kept hoping the boyfriend would’ve been taken from us but alas!

If it was exactly the same but had Grant, Lex and Tim it would feel even more intense because of how much we care about them.

The Rex, the visuals and the action though are top Jurassic scenes.

It's in the novel but was never adapted on screen.

The raft scene would have had even more of an impact if the Rex actually ate one of them. The boyfriend would have been the prime candidate there but after he jumped off the boat to save his girlfriend and narrowly avoiding getting killed by the Stan Lee cameo screentime Velociraptors I knew he was surviving the movie.

The raft scene is super cool in theory. For me that scene was ruined by the execution. Parts of it were cool (like the T-Rex swimming underwater) but it gets comical how many attempts it does and fails to achieve anything. It chews on that boat like a dog chews on a chew toy yet this inflatable raft pops up without A SINGLE HOLE IN IT WHATSOEVER. You could play the Benny Hill theme over this sequence and add a ba-dum-tish drum sound to the raft popping up without a single hole in it.

I had high expectations with Rebirth and while it didn't ultimately reach those expectations, I thought it was still pretty solid and all of the big set pieces were pretty great. No idea where the franchise goes from here though and I liked that this felt more like the original Park trilogy compared to the World films.

Obviously not as good as the original Jurassic Park or even the first World film but up there among the rest and better than Fallen Kingdom and Dominion

They haven't left the equator yet. :funny:

Honestly, feels like a good setup for a sequel with this crew.

You telling me no one from that ****ing family dies?

They had a fresh idea at the end of Fallen Kingdom with the concept of dinosaurs being introduced to the modern world but Dominion squandered it and Rebirth basically rubbed salt in the wound by saying "Any dinosaurs that aren't directly near or on the equator are pretty much dead." I really don't know why they wrote themselves into a corner with that.

I haven't seen Rebirth yet but it really feels they wrote themselves into a corner by basically dismissing what was set up in FK and Dominion. The idea of dinosaurs living among us has so much movie potential, they just needed a good writer. But no for Rebirth it's just back to an island and that will be the status quo again going forward.

At the very least, the cartoon gave T rex fans the moment they've been craving since JP3.

The best realization of the whole Jurassic World concept was the Battle at Big Rock short/deleted scene. That thing was better than 90% of Dominion.

The opening T-Rex at the drive-in was pretty great as well, and they cut it from the theatrical release for some dumb reason,

I saw the film two days ago, here are my thoughts:

- The cinematography/locations looked great
- Also dug the score
- The raft scene was fun.
- Bailey and Ali were the highlights of the film
- Missed the animatronics a lot, CGI was a mixed bag
- Didn’t care for the family storyline or most of the characters, to be honest
- too many callbacks
- Was surprised by the very low body count.

I’d probably give it a 5.5 or a 6/10.

Also, when it was over, the audience clapped, which has never happened whenever I have seen a movie.

Was it? I felt it lacked tension. I had more fun with other sequences.

Honestly, I’m surprised people are picking this as the standout too. It was fine, but I think the earlier boat/shipwreck scene was more entertaining

Yes ,exactly! I found the climbing scene to be better, too.

One of my favorite moments was during that climbing sequence when Jonathan Bailey has the 'slip' and almost goes but he manages to just land next to ScarJo, and he has this great laugh that's a mix of "Oh wow I almost died" and "Oh wow I cant believe I did that!!!" and it was like 3 seconds of genuine humanity shining through in his acting when I would say 97% of the rest of the movie everyone was acting like characters in a movie.

Re-watched Fallen Kingdom tonight and while it's got some seriously stupid moments, I like this movie a good bit. The opening is great. It has the best Rexy porn in there entire series and has Blue being a superhero and saving the day. The first hour is great, and the volcano erupting is best reason the series has come up with for people going back to the island.

The Brachiosaurus death scene still tugs at the heartstrings a good bit. I also really like the sequence where they have to draw blood from Rexy in that enclosed space. Tense stuff and Bayona's directs the hell out of a shoddy script. Dominion next with Rebirth next week.
