Scott Stuber, producer of Ted, Identity Thief and Battleship is looking to take it on. Universal has all three of those in common but they haven't said they'd distribute yet.

Dude, it's Gears of War. I think even CliffyB was inspired by his GI Joe toys/ early 90's comic book cliches for the look. It's not meant to be deep or cerebral, or dramatic theater.

I still like these picks from the first Gears thread a couple years back, although I'd be open to Thomas Jane as Marcus too... Although Hollywood is probably gonna want to cast Whalberg, Rock and Reynolds.. not that I would be particularly against that mind but those choices would have Bay written all over it..

Alex Proyas, Neill Blomkamp, Joe Carnahan or Michael Davis (Shoot Em Up) as directing choices maybe..


Oh and speaking of Bioshock, I hope it does eventually get made, I can see Joe Kosinski doing a good job with it.

This could give it new life, it's a straight forward enough concept / plot that with the right production it could just push through and for better or worse actually get made pretty quickly now.
Or it's just entered the next cycle of production hell.

Not a big fan of Batista as Marcus. The one that really sold me was Franky (G) Gonzalez as Dominic Santiago.

Universal Pictures has set Shane Salerno to write the screenplay for Gears of War, the big-scale live action adaptation of the Microsoft Studios iconic Xbox video game franchise. Universal-based producer Dylan Clark is producing. Universal and Microsoft announced its collaboration on the game in late 2016t. At the time, Rod Fergusson, head of Microsoft subsidiary The Coalition that develops new Gears of War content and the franchise co-creator, said the film would not be based on any particular game but would instead be a new story set in the universe.

Salerno’s current writing credits include the four sequels to Avatar for director James Cameron, which begin shooting in August, as well as writing and producing The Cartel for Ridley Scott to direct at Twentieth Century Fox, based on the bestselling Don Winslow novel. That film is tentatively eyeing a January production start. His other credits include the Michael Bay-directed Armageddon and the Oliver Stone-directed Savages.

Yeah unfournatly that's a possibility . I can see E-Day being the focus and a group of cogs that first battled the locust with Fenix Sr having a small role(probably played by Gary Oldman)
