So I'm writing a script that a friend and I plan to use to film a movie. We already have ideas on our cast, and we're slowly attaining a small budget, plus I have a decent enough computer and editing software for the film. However, I'm about 22 pages, and was wondering what the time of a movie usually translates to script-wise? Like how long is a script usually for movie that is an hour and a half?

Also, any tips on learning to edit and stuff. Like I mentioned, I have Adobe Premiere Elements 8 (two pack with Photoshop 8), but I have not even begun to learn, and we'd like to try and have this film done by the end of enxt year, halloween if things all go well.

Um...90-105 I think is the avg script. I may be wrong. I know a feature length movie is 70 minutes in the very least.

If a script doesn't reach the 90 page mark for a movie and you're a beginner, most studios trash it. However they give leeway to proven successes.

Each script page equals about a minute of screentime. As things take longer when acted out than when they are written. So a 1 page scene of talking may feel long writing it, but it's only about 1 minute in the actual film.

I think the 1 page = 1 minute is a good formula. But you have to be using Courier in 12-pt for that to work, I think...

A 120 page script using the 3 Act structure. And yeah, 1 page generally equals 1 minute.

Here's a chart:

Download this, it's great http://celtx.com/

One of the things you should also do, is have a script read with friends, time it and see how long the script is by the read.

Like some have said, one page=one minute. Doesn't have to be 100%, but it's a good guideline.

Record something and play around with it in your editing software. I'm hoping to start my film sometime in March(latest) and I've just been messing around.

This. Writing can feel like it takes forever, but when you start running through the script, it inevitably feels very short.
