George Lucas Claims Racism Reason for Lack of Studio Support for 'Red Tails'

Guys I think I have figured this whole "is he or isn't he" thing that has rocked the boards all week. I feel I have found some definitive proof on this.

George Lucas has been dating Mellody Hobson, an African American woman since 2006.

He is indeed not a black guy.

Yet I care?

He's saying "Black people don't get respect in Hollywood".

He's not black. He's a big money loving white dude. Who loves money. His movies, sans the earlier ones, make TONS of money. And aside from Sam Jackson, there was no black people in any of the Star Wars prequels. Sans for the occasional guard.

So shouldn't act like he experienced it personally.

I'm more interested in this whole "Acting Black" thing you said... Maybe three times is a clue that I was more curious about that...

For that beautiful woman to be dating George he either has a huge wang or a lot of money.

That's what I ment. If you're tying to assume i'm implying something else, then whatever.

Acting LIKE he's black. Is that better?

She is president of an investment firm managing over $3 billion in assets.

The force is strong with Mr. Lucas.....

Not better, completely different, different statement, different connotation, different reaction.

so... Why does he have to be black to realize that there are some race based challenges in making certain types of movies? :woot:

@ CelticPredator

Your basically implying only black people can comment on how they are treated in Hollywood.

Because. He has never experienced it. And has done nothing about it, until now.

Lucas isn't 'acting black' by saying studios didn't support this film because it has a predominantly-black cast. He's making accusations of racism. You don't need to be the same race as the race you're defending. Whether he was right or wrong in making those accusations is a different argument, but saying he's trying to be black for speaking out is racist and wrong.

If someone would like to try and convince me how the title isn't offensive, well, give it a shot.

Yeah. Kinda, I mean, I have no idea if Lucas is stating facts or not, but I don't know. I'm not black, so I can't say I understand weather or not it's true.

Doesn't Tyler Perry's movies make a lot of money?

commenting is one thing, but the way it comes off, it seems like Lucas is trying to make a stand here.

The title IMO is a joke....and not a intentional one.

But he made 3 HUGE movies, with one black guy in it, who's actually bearly in it, and then dies like "a *****". Something Sam Jackson said his character wouldn't.

I'm just saying. Seems quite strange that this man, out of all the men in hollywood, would stand up to lack of black actors in hollywood.

What you're saying is basically that you have to be black to defend/support the black community. That's incredibly racist.

You forgot about Lando, those first SW movies were decent...some would say.

No. But it's the same as that South Park episode.

Stan thinks it's not a big deal that his dad said the N word by accident.

Token said it was. Stan kept trying to apologize for it, but Token kept telling him he doesn't get it.

It's not until the end that Stan realizes...HE DOESN'T GET IT.

But thanks for calling me Racist anyway.

What do his past projects have to do with anything? Nothing. He is behind a film, now, that is almost comletely made up of black actors. Just because he killed of Mace, who was written to be a major badass, means he's not allowed to be behind black actors? That makes no sense.

BTW Georgie boy didn't direct Red Tails either...Anthony Hemingway did.

They have to do with everything. Where was all the black people in Star Wars? Sans Lando, and Mace.

He made and financed a movie with an all black cast. If it's a good movie, and well marketed, it will do well. It doesn't even look like a good movie to me. Looks really bland. Looks like Flyboys, or that other plane movie.

Guess I don't like plane movies.

Anyway, I know what you're doing. I see this happen a lot. Someone makes some points, and then another person takes those points to turn the person into a horrible villain. Maybe my points aren't perfect. But not nearly as sinster as you're making them to me.

Tyler Perry films average around 60 million in theaters . Perry is doing well but Red Tails is budgeted above sixty million. If this is a big hit Lucas could make history. I would also play it up for publicity.
Not sure what to believe about the studios turning it down though. They could have several reasons.

Well, you are being racist. And I wouldn't model my values after 'South Park'. No, I don't have slavery in my ancestry, and I've never been subject to race prejudice, but I'm a white man who thinks black people are equal to me and everyone else, and I will defend them any chance I can get. I've never been raped, but you can bet I'll do anything to help someone who has. I've never been physically abused, but I'll be right there stopping it if I see it.
