I hope this movie is a success. But i don't think it will be. Not just because it's an all black cast, but because George Lucas is a lousy director and script writer.
George Lucas.....did not.....direct.....nor.....script......this movie.
I don't think it's going to succeed because it looks largely unappealing in every way. I see no really good selling point to the film besides iffy looking special effects.
Seriously?
It's a funny day when Tyler Perry's endorsement would give it more clout than George Lucas himself.
The internet hate train is on the move.

I am going to see this movie and I hope others do because Hollywood will use this movie to determine if its profitable to do action movies with black casts. Right now black cinema is relegated to Tyler Perry and the "I got out the ghetto and made something of myself" films
I'm going to see it for those reasons and that I like WWII movies.

^ What C. Lee.

To be honest, this isn't the movie I'm looking most forward to. But, if I hear really good things about, I may give it a watch.

I'm black and I want films about and staring and directed by blacks to succeed but only if they are good and Red Tails just doesn't look good. I'm sorry but I can't just enjoy good intentions when I'm watching a flick.

Exactly.

Attack the Block for example had black main leads and that's not the reason I watched the movie but because the entire movie itself looked incredible.

Turns out it was great and that's the reason people should watch movies. If we want to promote all black lead movies then lets make sure we're watching the good ones.

how does this not look good all the trailers have been amazing imo
It's that prissy Lucas bias. Apparently he raped childhoods.

I'm pumped for Red Tails. George is out there really promoting it, and his excitement is making me excited. He genuinely cares for the story and what it means to history, and it shows. It's about time we had a new jingoistic WWII movie about fighter pilots.

What is up with all the hate?

The film has a solid cast (except for Ne-Yo), spectular CGI/SFX, badass aerial battles (I'm a sucker for 'Dogfighting'), and possibly a very presentable script. Aaron McGruder (The Boondocks) had a hand in writing it.

"All the hate"? That's an exaggeration.

It's two people (ISEESPIDEY and myself) who have expressed they don't find the movie exactly good in this entire thread and it's hardly being hateful but rather disinterested.

Everybody else has been gushing.

No, I was talking about a few articles posted out there. They been downright brutal towards the film.

Will you stop generalizing.

I find the movie to be unappealing on its own accord. I'm someone who enjoyed the prequels for the most part and actually enjoyed the special editions of the original trilogy (the 2004 edition at least). So clearly that generalization you made there doesn't apply.

:hehe:

Darth Maul was the only thing that kept me interested, even as a child. I'll never forgive myself for paying $5.50 to see it.

Surprisingly, just edit out Jar-Jar and the film is quite tolerable.

A. I was never a Star Wars fan so Lucas didn't rape anything. As far as I'm concerned the only good Star Wars movie is The Empire Strikes Back. The first movie is decent and the 3rd movie isn't good but has decent parts and the prequels are terrible but that has no barring on my feelings about RT because Lucas didn't write or direct the film. I don't give a crap about his involvement one way or the other and I think that it is neat that he broke past Hollywood's racism and got the movie made. It's just too bad the movie doesn't look like it's any good.

B.C. LEE, I'm not telling you that you have to think that it looks unappealing or that the special effects look iffy, I'm saying those things because that's what I believe. You are free to disagree of course but I wish you had did it with words instead of one word because I'm not exactly sure what you are objecting to.

Also I'm tired of Hollywood telling me that the only good period for blacks were anytime before the 1990's. I want a modern black action film.

if this movie doesn't do well you won't get one. George Lucas hit it on the head:

"I realize that by accident I've now put the black film community at risk [with Red Tails, whose $58 million budget far exceeds typical all-black productions]," he said. "I'm saying, if this doesn't work, there's a good chance you'll stay where you are for quite a while. It'll be harder for you guys to break out of that [lower-budget] mold. But if I can break through with this movie, then hopefully there will be someone else out there saying let's make a prequel and sequel, and soon you have more Tyler Perrys out there."

As a black filmmaker I am very much excited to see how this movie does. This will determine if I get to do the movies I want to or if I am relegated to Morris Chestnut/Vivica Fox romcoms.

Think back to when the superhero movies came on the scene and when hollywood took notice. The first few were ok maybe even good but they evolved to the point of getting Oscars.

This movie might be ok but if its profitable that means there will be more...and the next one will be better...and the next one will be better....and the next one will be better....until Tyler Perry isn't the only action in town.
...and then we'll get our black superhero movies

When you're 12 percent of the population you can't expect big budgeted movies that cater only to blacks. Those movies cost 150 million and the black audience probably spends half that on movies.

At least we have movies with black action heroes in major movies like Blade, The Book of Eli, I Am Legend and Hancock. That's more than what Latinos and Asians get.

I do hope we get more indie movies that show unexplored aspects of the black American experience.

I don't expect Hollywood to cater to black audiences...I would however like a little more variety in black films.

I'm one of those crazy people who didn't mind Jar-Jar all that much. Was he annoying? Yeah. But of all the movie's problems (and... there are lists), he was the least. A nonsensical plot, poor direction, awful pacing, boring characters, bad acting... Well, others have said it better.

I have trouble believing a studio told him that. Plenty of successful all black cast films out there. I'm calling BS.
George Lucas has no need to go a internatioanlly broadcast tv show and lie.

There are plenty of actors and filmmakers out there who have called hollywood out on their prejudice, sexist and racist attitudes.

latinos and Asians make their own ****. I know it's not "American", but there are plenty of Asian American and Latino Americans who make their own movies and watch the Telemundos and the Asian American Networks or whatever. And if you have cable, there are more than one network they have, as opposed to....BET and maybe Centre.

Plinkett.

The man really should be a professional film critic. He utterly destroyed the new trilogy.

In my book he already is but I get what you're saying. He should definitely get more notice. Internet wise he's pretty popular.

You should check out Half in the Bag his review show with his friend. It's pretty good.

He explained how Jack and Jill is one big disgusting ponzi scheme.
