Ghost Rider 2 underway

If Sony is serious about wanting to make a second Ghost Rider movie, they have to rate it R. I'm not even kidding. With all the demons and hell stuff, you have to rate it R so that the darkness behind the character can be fully explored without limits.

Think about it. In the comic (Ghost Rider Vol. 1 & 2), everything was black. It's hard to explain this in words, you really have to have read the comic to understand it, but at the very basic level: NO COMEDY. NONE. ZERO. ZILCH. This isn't Spider-Man with some goofy teen running around jumping off buildings. It's a guy who sold his soul to the devil and he's paying the ultimate price. Not exactly comical material.

I agree. Rated R is the only way to make this kind of movie legitimately. MSJ may have wanted to feel like a kid again while making this movie but the 70s are over, the 90s and Current Ghost Rider (which sold better) and more prevalent should be where the emphasis should be.

Have a non-linear screen play that is exciting and has some good twists with lots of epic action, and have someone with a good Horror vision to direct it. Oh and it should be Rated R. :)

A bad ass PG-13 Ghost Rider film is possible. It's not comedy that knocks a film down from R to PG-13.

You're right, it's not the comedy. It's the references to 'evil' if you want that do. The studio wants the film to appeal to everyone, so if children will be watching it, you can't keep referencing to the devil and demons.

It should be R. Comics can get away with silhouette of blood, or changing the color, but in a movie, blood is blood, let's see it.

Lots of his villains are not just demons who do 'demonic' things, but their demons who attack humans...hence whenever 'human blood' is shed. And whenever human blood is shed, a Rated R should be stamped on it.

I dont know how you can get away with Scarecrow, or Blackout, or Deathwatch, or the Lilith (especially Skinner), and even Lilin herself with her cannabalism w/o Rated R. Thats not even including Cthon (Darkhold), Kazaan, and any of the more recent comic villains.

Not to mention Deathwatch who actively takes pleasure in the deaths of others and 'feeds' off of dying people, or Vengeance who is supremely aggressive in the way he kills off thugs and such.

I really hoped for something as badass and similiar in tone as the 1st Blade movie. A ghost Rider movie that was genuinely scary, kickass and hardcore.

What I got was dissapointment.

I think of 'drinking jelly beans out of a glass' and somehow it seems to sum up the whole of the movie for me.

As other posters have said - the approach was all wrong; the script horrible, direction mediocre and acting, well, all I have to say is Wes Bentley.

It looked nice but dammit, they couldnt even resist messing around with classic character designs like Mephisto and Blackheart and giving us something that I'd expected to see in Van Helsing. Who were they to think that they could come up with something better than a design as iconic as classic Mephisto?

I did like the score though.

That and Sam Elliott.

Hopefully, the failings of the 1st film can be ironed out for the 2nd.

Not letting MSJ write the script or direct would be a start.

Can someone beg Stephen Norrington to come back to doing film work?

Please??

They can still have strong references to evil and be PG-13. Hell look at the long list of PG-13 films to see that. PG-13 wouldn't limit Ghost Rider at all IMO because the film should still be open to those between 13-18 IMO>

Could you provide a few examples? When I think of hell movies, I think of The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby; not exactly PG-13.

Daredevil is worthy of an R rating but Ghost Rider should only be PG13?...

Yeah it makes no freakin sense. That is probably more Sony's fault than anything else. They want kiddie movies. Goyer was also pissed that the movie went PG13, which is one of the reasons he dropped out of it.

I must admit, i would love to see Kazann in a future GR movie.

Who or what is Kazann?

Read the graphic novel 'Road To Damnation' he is the main bad guy in that and a being who GR is sent to capture and bring back to hell. I wont tell you the full story in case you want to read it. I thought it was an awesome story.

Alright, Ima pick that up next time I go comic-shopping.

Here are my current thoughts/predictions about a sequel, which I sure hope they make.

Since Ghost Rider did not make a huge profit, I believe the budget for any sequel will be significantly less than the $120 million spent on GR. This may well exclude Nic Cage from the project, as his fee is probably around $20 million. So then, a new Johnny or Dan Ketch? Could be either.

I'd like the studio to be open to the idea of an R-rated sequel, so it could go to darker places and allow the villains to be seriously nasty. However, we all know why most films are PG-13 (or 12/12A in the UK) these days: the younger audience, maximising ticket sales and making more money. 300 showed a mature movie can make a ton of moolah, but I believe Sony will want another PG-13 picture.

Will MSJ be back at the helm? I think the studio will want him back. A critical bashing didn't stop Fox from hiring Tim Story again for the Fantastic 4 sequel. It did good box office and so did Ghost Rider. Of course, he may not want to do it, and given some of the pathetic notes the Sony bods flung his way about the production, that wouldn't surprise me.

I wonder if we'll hear anything solid at Comic Con. Is anyone going?

Considering the DVD has sold well, i can see them increasing the budget for the sequel, to maybe $130-140 million, they wont increase it by much, but i think it will increase.

Saying that, i think if a sequel was to go ahead, we would have heard more about it by now, so i'm not too confident at the moment.

I like how Cage plays the same character in 90% of all movies he's done. Such a great actor.

Please, revamp this fresh franchise.

Cage's gettin a little old, but he's only old when he's J.Blaze-
and I knew after the first one, the second would be better, and I dug the first one.

I really hope we get one, the movie has surely made enough profit to warrant one.
