Ghost Rider IS Being Screened

Most movie goers are casual movie goers, people who saw a TV spot that aired on TV and say, "cool" I'd like to see that. The only people who go to those critic websites are serious movie goers.

I have to disagree, at least to a point. I think bad early reviews can lead to an overall negative buzz about a movie, which can most definitely effect its B.O., especially on opening weekend. I don't think there are many movie-goers around that live in a vacuum. While most aren't as "tuned-in" as we on SHH are :cwink: I think it's naive to think that a vast majority don't read reviews, or at least haven't heard about a movie's positive or negative press ahead of its release.

So while it may be true that "the only people who go to those critic websites are serious movie-goers," those "serious movie-goers" do report on their findings to their friends/co-workers, and word spreads...

I love how your arguments are relying on a person's post count for their credibility. Perhaps most people have lives and cannot post on message boards as often as you apparently do.

They could have a Super Awesome Director's Cut of Daredevil and it would still suck. And I've seen more than 3 comic book movies.

As for your "MSJ and Sony 'trusting' SHH", of course they trust them. I'd trust them too if I knew I would get positive press out of it. Amazing that there's no name attached to that review. Did the entire staff get to write a paragraph each?

Oh why dont you just go see the movie before you register an account here to bash the film, and SHH's credebility as a critic.

Thanks.

Yeah like it hurt Norbit with it's 9% rating at RT...and yet it beat all expectations.

Perhaps you should read your first post again how you'd write a postive review too if Sony let you see it a week before everyone else. :)

No, I don't need to. I know what I posted. I saw the movie and posted my opinion of it. I didn't like it, others will. That's it. You want to take it as a flame war and bashing because someone has a different viewpoint than you do, go right ahead.

Well I dont believe you saw it actually. Proof?

If so then thats great i dont care. You didnt like Ghost Rider......yah thats cool. Im optimistic for the film, and your the only negative voice in this thread.

DO NOT insult SHH's credebility as a critic because you dont agree with him.

I'm sure i will at least like ghost rider, did sony pay me off?...You might say i didnt get to see it in advance...would my opinion of me liking the film change if i saw it today? rather then on Friday?

No. Mirko treats us well.. and thats why many are registered on this site, because we know things first. If your going to insult that particular value of SHH then you may leave.

Well said Riddle...well said.

It seems like the peace that once filled these GR forums is slowly fading away...:csad:...which sucks because these are the best of the best IMO.

They have been my favorite threads because we're not mean to each other, we're cool about everything...we have the coolest Mod ever...all of us are positive about GR and the situation we're in, etc...it's just great to be on these boards.

CAH

Well Im pretty new to the ghost rider forums but i like it because its not hugely overcrowded like the sm3 forums, so you get to know everyone a bit better.

When ghost rider hits, some will come and spam, but then things will be calm again like how they were :D. Then sequal discussion will commence.

Want my used popcorn bag?

I just said I didn't like the movie as a whole. The Ghost Rider stuff itself was cool.

Insult who? I don't even know who wrote it. There's no name listed.

No, your opinion will only change if you didn't like the movie.

No, your opinion will only change if you didn't like the movie.

1. No how about a picture of your ticket.

2.Ok thats fine.

3.You said that Mirko (SHH) wrote a positive review because he was pampered by sony into doing it, thats an insult to his credebility.

4. If i dont like the movie then instead of saying that the positive review was only positive because the critic was essentially payed off by a studio, ill post what i didnt like, how it could imporve, and id begin anticipation for the sequal. MSJ posts on this site, so chances are he would see these criticisms and keep them in mind.

Would my opinion of dislike change if i got to see it early? No...that would be dishonest to the movie going community. SHH is not out to fool us, after all there were no positive reviews of X3 coming from him. (I dont think there was a review period actually.)And he saw it early.

However i doubt i wont like ghost rider.

Im done with this now.

Its not your opinion thats unacceptable, its how you tried to validate it.

Sony didn't give us tickets, only vouchers for free concession snacks. That was our ticket. You'll have to call the Century City 15 if you want to see if they have any left in their trash bins.

He could have been influenced by the studio. He may not have been. It does happen in the movie world. I don't know if he was or not, so I'll just retract my earlier remarks on the matter and apologize for making such statements.

Insult who?

Mirko the guy who wrote the review.

Move on now. Nothing to see here anymore. ;)

While that lack of critic screenings until early friday is unfortunate, I will still see the movie because I want to. Even if it got negative/mixed reviews, I will still see it. I don't see a film based on reviews, I see a film based on if I'm interested or not. In terms of GR, I really want to see this film, and no amount of negativity is going to change that. I'll decide for myself if the film's good or not, not some guy/girl.

But SHH only gave the movie a favourable review, not a super spectacular one, Excelsior said it isnt the best CB movie and its not the worst, he basically said it average out of all CB movies.

They don't need to gush about it. As long as the review is positive that will create a good buzz among fans interested in seeing the film. If the review turns out negative it will quickly be dismissed anyway. Sony knows this. A studio is not going to withhold the film from critics screenings simply because MSJ wants to tweak a few things here and there. This film was finished and originally slated for summer 2006.

Slated for '06 yes.
Finished , nope don't agree with that.

Look at the VFX footage.
The first real trailer came out in May '06 .
Look at the shots.

Now look at the shots that were given to sites recently. It's a huge difference in quality of the VFX.

Filmed in early 2005, slated for summer 2006 and then pushed to early 2007. And if you go by what the director says only finished 10 days ago. That's a hell of a production schedule. What took so long? And please don't say groundbreaking special effects. The effects evidenced in the trailer should not have taken close to two years to finish.

This film looks like a really fun film. I'm wondering if the sequel might look back again at Goyer's script???

Indeed it is.
It's no secret that Sony pushed back Ghost Rider when they saw the schedule of Summer '06.
Some people would argue that Sony didn't have faith. I don't .

Not only that but the flames just weren't coming along well.
Fire VFX are a notoriously difficult thing to recreate in CGI.
Alongside water and CG humans , it's one of the holy grails in VFX.
For GR they needed to have realistically moving flames. Not the quick shots that you have with explosions or the flames that are covered with smoke. Realistic moving flames.
And the VFX shots looked like this :
gr17.jpg

It's really not that great and they had to start from scratch , developing new programs for the flames etc. In the end they got it right , but it still takes a long time to create the VFX.

That's the official reason behind the delay.
Now if you're going to believe rumors , then by all means do.
In the end neither you nor me knows what really happened but IMO everyone , including you and me, should be open minded about stuff and look at the facts.

If you've been following GHost Rider , you'll see that as time passed the VFX just got better and better with the first proper shots of the flames appearing somewhere around Oct. '06

If they can get the movie screened for Thursday night or Friday morning I see no reason why it couldn't be screened earlier on Thursday in time for the Friday reviews.

Not screening films for the critics never works it puts the thought in people minds that the film sucks and the studio is hiding it. When the critics do finally see it they will almost certainly thrash it because the studio has put the idea in the critics head that the film is lousy due to their actions.

It cant' be worse than Norbits 9% rating at Rotten Tomatoes and that made 34 million on a non-holiday weekend.
