July 12th... July 12th...

My comic shop won't let me reserve the copies that I want :(

What makes you think the comic book stores will have it sold-out? Don't worry, it won't. I bet on June 12th it'll be there :)

Son of Satan is a MUST! He's apparently getting his own ongoing as well in Marvel's MAX line. He and Ghost Rider go way back together.

Would really love to see The Darkhold Redeemers again too. Vicki, Sam, and i guess maybe Jinx (in place of the deceased Louise). Mordred as well. Mordred had a special interest in Jinx's magical potential, but the book was cancelled before we ever got a chance to see that explored further.

Marvel should really just put out a double sized ongoing featuring rotating stories of all its different magic based characters (kind of like Midnight Sons Unlimited)...We could have stories with Werewolf By Night, The Darkhold Redeemers, Man-Thing, The Witches, etc...that running alongside the new Ghost Rider, Blade, and Hellstorm books would be VERY cool.

Let's move this over here...

Is it Vol 3, by the way?

Technically, according to Wizard Magazine, this would be Volume 4.

For some reason, the white cowboy version is considered Volume 1.

Anyways,

So what is the nature of Blazes ramblings? When the box is saying something he is thinking, is that Blaze or Zarathos? For example:

*SPOILER*

Quotes:

In Box: "Face it Johnny...You're never getting out of Hell...The Devil Has Won...He Beat you"
In Bubble: "No"
In Box: I'm not Beaten, I'm not Done..Yet?"

Whatever it says in the comic, I go by. I'm just wondering what it says in the comic as I don't have it yet.

Though, I think I remember seeing the Hammer Lane credited as V3 as well... though, I'm not positive. I'll have to check it out.

I completely missed this thread when I made my post in the Countdown thread.

Not much to say other than I've never been so damned impressed by artwork in my life. By far the best artwork since I started reading Rider comics. I was even impressed with the Silvestri cover, and I hate that man's art. The story already has me hooked, and the preview pages for issue 2 really has me psyched for next month.

Might go pick up a third copy of the TEX cover just to have 2 saved copies, like I did with the Ennis/Crain series. Varient cost me originally $15, but with my other 4 purchases, to came down to a total of $25, making it a but less, so all is well.

Now I just need to find a place with the sketch variant and I'm set.

Dammit, this was the reason I stopped buying comics in the first place in '96, all the damn variant covers.

I was very surprised to see the oldschool 90's logo on the cover of the comic. Very surprising, and I loved seeing it.

I was just disappointed how much the mannerisms of the character was that of the Ketch Ghost Rider, I barely saw Johnny in the comic outside of the dialogue.

Let us just hope it's the right direction.

Grr, furber jerber, growl, meow, roar, ahhhhhh!

I just called over to my shop and no luck, it won't be in until tomorrow. It sucks living in the best place on earth some times.

I think this is volume 3 myself...both Ennis series, and Hammer Lane had subtitles, making them not be Ghost Rider Vol. Whatever, but actually Ghost Rider: Subtitle Vol. 1...so this would be Vol. 3, unless you count the cowboy version, which I dont, because other than the name it's got nothing to do with this version

The Hammer Lane mini is acknowledged as Vol. 3 in the comic itself, thus making this new ongoing, if anything, 4 or 5, depending on how you see the Ennis/Crain series. Might have a subtitle, but it is considered Vol. 3 according to the printing info.

I'm still saying it's volume 3...alot of marvels volume numbers dont make sense though, punisher probably being the worst of the lot...

I consider it Vol 3 as well Joker. I dont' consider mini's volumes but, that's me.

Regardless, I finally have the issue and I gotta say, it was as good as everyone said it was. Fast paced, fantastic art and a great start to the series. It's so freakin' awesome to see Saltares and Tex back. It really is. There are no two people who have a handle on the character like these two and I can't wait to see what's in store for us in the future.

I'm waiting to reserve judgement on Blaze speaking through Ghost Rider but, right now, I'm not very impressed with it all. It takes away from the history but, they may still develop something so... we'll see.

Man, I'm pretty pissed at my comic shop though. They got in a few variants but they didn't have them for sale. The clerk told me that the owner usually keeps them to one side for some reason and to ask him directly about it when he works next. I'll be pretty freakin' pee'd off if he doesn't sell it too me.

In other news, I did get my poster in. Not the one I ordered (one of the regular cover for the series) but, great none the less. It's the Silverstri variant poster, which I didn't even know existed so, it's all good.

"Let's Roll Tubby"

Brilliant!

Did anyone else write them and tell them that you love them yet? Send those letters in folks. Make em keep this title going.

That´s vol 4 to me, FH, considering the 1967 WGR, the seed of our Demon Cyclist.

FINALLY got over to the shop and picked up the book...great issue!
have to say i enjoyed this 1st issue more than the last one by Crane and co.
could have been because of the art...heh...but regardless even though it wasnt really GR (just Blaze in that skull) his attitude was great! even plotting to turn on that helpful demon simply becuase "he was a demon"...loved it!
liked the fact the Devil was actually called Satan/ Lucifer and not Mephisto...
as someone stated before i did get an impression in a few panels that Blaze was having more than just a conversation w/ himself in his head. like there was "something else" in there that had a very pessimistic view on things. hmmm...hope this is the way the writer plans to go. slowly but surely Zarathos will dominate Blazes body more once he gets out on earth.
cant wait to read more issues to see how this plays out....

I got the issue and wow! Great art and Daniel Way did a pretty good job for the first issue. Daniel is becoming one of my favorute writers he doing great in Wolverine, Ok now I'm going off subject...sorry. To bad we didn't get to see Johnny but oh well, we got the whole series for that. They did a fine job by not putting out to much so we'll be becoming for more.....Just like a hooker. I loved the ending!!! I didn't not see that one coming.

Yeah, the ending was awesome. I chuckled for a while after reading that.

In the Marvel universe there are several domains of Hell. Mephisto rules one and Satan/Lucifer runs another. There are other demon rulers which rule the others.

Ghost Rider #1

Ghost Rider #1
Marvel Comics
Writer: Daniel Way
Pencils: Javier Satares
Inks: Marx Texeira

Ghost Rider is stuck in hell and every time he thinks he’s about to get away, the Devil tricks him. But the Ghost Rider has a plan. With of a ghost who looks like a white version of the Real Ghostbusters’s Slimmer, he discovers that he can make his way out. Unfortunately, the Devil is always one step in front of him. Can Ghost Rifer make a clean getaway?

Although a fun read, this series is Marvel’s latest sample of decompressed comics filled with padding that will eventually be released as a collected trade paper back. A decade ago, readers could get their money’s worth in comics. Not anymore. Writers barely write what once was but a prologue. No matter how cool the comic book is, filling it with void is a cheap trick to use on readers. I won’t bother sticking around for issue #2.

The artwork is flaming and has a nice colour pallette. The colourist should be credited for giving a 3D feel to the artwork.

7/10

keep forgetting about that whole multiple demon thing in Marvel Universe.
yeah its possible that Satan is just another devil/demon...Meph could still be lurking around somewhere.

there was another negative review on AICN...guy was more brutal than the one you posted. he didnt even like the art saying both Saltares and Tex were past their prime!
http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=23906#2

he might have some valid points...but this is one of the better issues that we've had in a long time...a GR comic that shock of all shocks reads and looks like a GR comic! critics have always gave Ghost Rider a hard time anyway...i can remember several negative reviews for the early 90s series. the only reviews that i bother taking note of are fellow fans...they have a much better grasp on what the character is and should be.

I agree with that.
One point he did have was the way way brushed over how GR got out of hell. I thought it was just me and that I needed to reread it, but it doesn't make sense. If the little slimmer demon was really satan, then why would satan let GR free???

It may be written that Lucifer can only escape the relm of hell piggy backing on a human soul in order to transition into the living realm. And the debut of Satan into the living realm through water might be the reasoning on why the dead are walking out of the sea. I don't know anymore.

I have to admit, as much a Ghostie mark I am, after rereading the comic the reviews are somewhat correct (outside of the comment on the art being bad), the story does seem to have too little in it and could have explained more. same could be said for the Moon Knight series (not so much the Eternals series, but it comes close). More could have been done with the comic.
