well as long as murray likes the script ivan/dan/harold/sony/ and murray all have to give the ok. From what we know all the other parties have said things are good, murray is the last hold out. Though with him doing the video game and had fun doing that, hopefully things will go well for 3rd film.

There is no 3rd film until they get Murray aboard and that's still going to be easier said than done.

Don't assume this movie is happening until the studio officially announces it and the camera's are rolling.

Murray has said he wants to do it and wasn't there talk about everyone liking the script already? Now it's only a matter of Columbia Pictures saying okay, which... come on! Why wouldn't they? That's the real easy part.

sony not paramount canotaur. But yea maybe he was just downplaying things to everything is totally official.

Columbia's dying to make a third one at this point. Between the game and the revival of 80s properties in general, they know at this point that it's a goldmine waiting to happen. They won't worry about the budget (as they reportedly did when Dan pitched the idea in the 90s) nearly as much this time around.

And I believe Murray'll be in as long as the other big players all get on board. He did the game, and he did the goofy Ghostbusters-esque cameo in Zombieland... so he's feeling the kind of power the property holds right now. If Reitman, Ramis and Aykroyd all say "Bill, it's a good script and we want to do this movie," he'll sign on.

Besides, the third film will be easy for him -- with a new team coming aboard the older actors will see less screen time, which has got to be appealing to Murray. He wanted to be killed off in one of the GB3 scripts Aykroyd was writing over the years.

Murray still isn't onboard and won't be until he's read the script and he's convinced it's good enough to make the film. Can't say that I blame him.

That's actually one of the things that killed the project the last time. They couldn't make a deal that would have been profitable for the studio because of the way the rights are split. It pissed off Aykroyd to the point where he ended his relationship with Sony at the time.

This is still the closest we've ever come to this movie becoming a reality, so there's still alot to be optimistic about but nothing has happened yet.

oh yea we are so so close right now for it to happen. Hopefully once he reads the script or what not he will like it and things can go good. Plus if he doesnt want to be in the film much his role could be limited to smaller role then the other 3 old busters.

The issue with Bill isn't the size of his role or how demanding it might be, but if they can make a movie, that'll be worth making.

Theoretically, Venkman could be completely absent from the film and Murray could still kill this project before it even happens because he owns part of the rights.

now that we have confirmation that this will most likely happen...will we hear a NEW ghostbusters theme, or bernstien's original theme?

Yeah, but at least now Murray is open to doing it. Which says something at least.

Look, as far as studios go, it's going to happen.

well i am sure they would like to keep the original theme. Though i wouldnt be surprised if they did decide to remix it with some new present day artist. But if that happened i am sure the original would be in the credits or played during the film some where. But yea murray is more open to 3rd film now since the videogame compared to the 90s when they originally wanted to do one. But yea the big factor is getting him to ok the project since he/harold/dan/ivan/sony each have 1/5th share on the rights.

The original theme gets its spot in the movie (since it's just as responsible for the product's popularity as the cast and crew - that song has carried a lot of weight over the years).

Then I'd imagine they'd put together a soundtrack of contemporary artists who had/developed songs that fit the film's theme. Almost certainly some kind of modern rap twist of the GB theme, for starters.

i rather go with a rock or pop group if their was a remix to theme then rap.

I just feel like the song's beat would work better with rap. That, and IMO rappers are much better with remixes/new takes than rockers or pop stars by a long shot.

well everyone has their musical tastes personally i like other types over rap, there is some rap i do like but not alot.

I agree . As a kid who grew up with Ghostbusters films and the Cartoon , there's no point at making another Ghostbusters sequel unless it's worth the 20 odd year wait. The first film was cleaver, funny and actually scary at parts. The second one was meh. They also gotta bring Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts , Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis.

well annie and ernie are definately going to happen heck they were in the game. Rick is one that might not happen, as for weaver that could go either way, though between rick and her i see weaver happening more then rick.

**** Rap. If they do the Ghostbusters song in Rap, I will punch a baby.

They already did a Rap version of the Ghostbusters theme in the second film. Run DMC covered it and it played during the montage right after they they went back into business.

I'm partial to a lot of the stuff elmer bernstein did in the first one, the second not so much. I hope it carries over here and there.

You know, people keep using the video game as a way to try and justify Bill being in the next movie but I don't think that necessarily applies here.

It's one thing for Bill to voice a character in a video game than to actually play that character in a movie. Heck, you could argue that maybe he wasn't as hesitant to be in Zombieland because it was a character and a movie that may not have meant as much to him as Venkman/Ghostbusters.

Or the simple fact that Ghostbusters, and Zombieland were released under Columbia, and thus allows them to use their most popular Bill Murry film...:awesome:
