Ghostbusters 3

It would be interesting to see how this would turn out. Personally i would not want him to be a ghost. But doing this could be a fun thing to try. Plus with murray who has over the yrs had his good and bad times with the series. This could be a move for him to not be in the movie much/just have a cameo role. If murray doesnt really want to have a large role in the movie. Though i hope he isnt a ghost. I rather have him be regular old venkman.

Although i thought ivan did debunk the comments weaver made awhile ago? maybe it was in an earlier draft when it wasnt known what type of role murray would sign on for. Or maybe it has been the plan all along. We just dont have alot of details on the project still at this point.

The way they put it in that article it does not sound too bad. But I guess we will see.

That pisses me off a little. Great, now he can do what he loves: making more bland Wes Anderson movies

having Peter as a ghost would be something new and original for the series, but i dunno what to think of it

it'll feel kind of strange and almost sad

supposedly they are gonna kill him off near the beginning

makes me think how he will die and how the rest of the team will react to it

i also wonder if right away he come back as a ghost, or if time will pass since Venkman died for his ghost to appear

gonna be interesting

If this is ever finished, I will be extremely happy......unless its bad.

Honestly I think this is just misinformation to keep everyone guessing. I'm almost positive that Reitman debunked the whole ghost rumor not long after they announced that he will be directing.

Also where is this coming from that Murray saying he would only film a few scenes? Last I checked Dan Aykroyd said that Murray was hesitant when the idea first came to mind but now hes' gungho to do it after hearing some of the ideas they had.

yea i am hoping maybe those quotes are just mis information, or quoted from murray from awhile ago. I would as i said perfer him to be alive. Though like others have said if they play it right a ghost venkman could be a fun story.

I don't like the idea of Ghost Venkman at all. I'm a huge fan of both GB movies and have been a massive GB fan throughout my life, and I honestly can live without a GB3, especially if it's like that :/ Ghost Venkman is just a bad idea on all fronts, IMO.

All of you complaining now will probably dig it when it arrives. Nice to see they're already going for something completely fresh [instead of following the 'Ghostbusters 2' path again].

If Venkman got killed off during an epic battle near the end, then that'd be cool. It could result in his old age. That could set up a forth film where the team is drifting apart due to Venkman's death and the teams inability to bust ghosts due to their age, so a new team is set up, younger faster and stronger.

you really think that if the movie was made with him as a ghost that he would tell this to the public?

so he just spoiled the twist of the movie and voila?

He said he wants to die at the start. Wouldn't be a twist, it would something we would know as a plot synopsis.

touche. it wouldnt be a twist. it would be in the trailer.

Exactly...

It's not a twist, if it happens at the beginning and the plot of the film revolves around Venkman's death.

This is also what would have happened, in the last version of Ghostbusters 3 (Hellbent) they were developing. Murray would only do the film if he could appear as a ghost, and Aykroyd and Ramis developed their story around Venkman's absence.

Both Aykroyd and Ramis have said multiple times over the years that Murray would come back if they made Venkman a ghost. That's been public knowledge for God knows how long.

Well I didn't know about it.....:p

Really? The first time I heard anything about this was when Sigourney Weaver mentioned it.

Here's an interview with Ramis, from 2005:

And we had the script all worked out. Danny and I had the story and Murray got really... Murray's so cantankerous, you know. Dan called him and said, "Would you be in the movie?" And he said, "I'll be in the movie... but only as a ghost."

QUINT: That would have been awesome!

HAROLD RAMIS: (laughs) It would have been interesting. So, we even created a story around that.

Granted, Ramis was referring to an entirely different Ghostbusters 3, than the one that's currently in development but from Weaver and Murray's recent comments, it would appear that the Venkman as a ghost plotpoint, might have been carried over into the current version of GB3.

Do you guys really think this is a twist? It'll be the marketing for the entire film. The trailer will be shots from some opening scene of the 4 original GBs busting things and then Venkman will die and then we'll move into the other 3 training new ones and maybe a shot of Ghost Venkman at the end of the trailer. I don't think this is a horrible idea as long as Venkman appears throughout the film and I'd prefer if this is the final film as well.

I wonder if ghost Venkman will look just like himself only "ghosty" or will it be a complete transformation the way Slimer and some of the other ghosts look. I remember J. Michael Stracynski(spelling, i know) mentioning in the complete real ghostbusters box set that they always wanted to do an episode of the show explaining how Slimer died and why he is the way he is but the producers over him deemed it too dark for animation. Now we can finally see something like that with Peter Venkman in a film where it's more appropriate. As long as Murray is more than a cameo, i'm staying positive about this for now.

well as i said it should be interesting to see if this happens or not for gb 3.

idk how I feel about this just yet. It just feels really cheap. It honestly feels like a plot that woulda shown up in the cartoon rather than the movies. Venkman was always my fav character and the thought of him as a ghost just doesn't sit right.
