Just bought a new Samsung 20" 6ms monitor for my computer, and the ghosting is quite noticeable. It's generally making everything look a bit blurry, and not so easy on th eyes.

The cable it's connected with is you standard cable, and goes into a socket with two lines of pins at the end, one slightly shorter than the other. There's another socket next to it which has three lines of pins, all of equal length.

Is there anything I can do to reduce the ghosting? A different cable maybe. Otherwise it's going to have to go back. :(

does the cable from the monitor before you got it fit? try that first or any other cable you can get your hands on before you take it back.

Another thing it could be is the refresh rate settings, check those

I can't alter my refresh ratings. They're stuck at 60.

My old monitor wasn't a flatscreen one, so the cable can't be used to test things out on the new one.

Hmmm im sure all cables are the same new or old.... did you have a look see if they are the same.

Also have you tried the monitor on another machine? whats your graphics card like? over 2 years old? im asking because my refresh rate goes to 75mhz

I don't think I've given a very accurate description of what the problem is, or I've just got myself mixed up.

The problem isn't with gaming, but rather with everything else. Internet pages, MSN, you name it. Everything is shadowed to the right. Kind of if like if you get a bad picture on an analogue signal for your television. The effect isn't horrendous, but it's noticeable enough for it to affect my perceptions, and spoil the effect of the screen in general.

Indeed i knew that im just trying to get a better idea of what it could be. Try another cable

Did you install the drivers for your particular GPU?
Try messing with the settings on there

Problem was solved. It was down to the cable I'd been given, which apparantly shouldn't have been used on anything over 17". Now, however, they've given me a cable which won't allow me to display the screen in it's proper widescreen resolution. Everything is currently horribly stretched. Back to PC World for me for cable number 3.

You sure that is nothing to do with the settings when you were messing trying to fix it?

Are you sure its the cable?
You can just change your resolution using the graphic card drivers.

After I reformatted my computer, when I reset my monitor to the suggested settings it looks like a ball

I'm pretty sure it was the cable. My friend tried it on his, and he couldn't pick the right widescreen resolutions either.

The cable I was given finally works. It started straight up in the correct resolution without me even having to change with.

I've had so many people tell me cables shouldn't really make a difference, but of the three cables I've had, each has had a different effect on the monitor.

All is well now though, but thanks for everyones help.
