Yes, that's how languages work.

I don't see why this is a big deal. There are tons of slang words in the dictionary, and they're labeled as such.

It appears in print at least 3 times
It is in common use verbally

I don't know anyone in my circle that uses ginormous. Doing so would get their ass promptly kicked.
