Action-Adventure Gladiator Sequel | Paramount

I suspect that they wait till it becomes mathematically extremely unlikely to drop below 70%.

I’m VERY curious what the general audience reception is going to be to this and box office. With Wicked generating so much viral buzz i wonder if its just gonna swallow this film whole. I think people were thinking this weekend was going to be another Barbenheimer phenomenon but i dont think this movie’s going to hit with the GA the same way Oppenheimer did.

Well, Gladiator 2 has already earned $87 million or so at the international box office. I think for this weekend, in America, it's supposed to earn around $65 million.

It's now at 71%

Ok interesting. I can actually picture this making decent coin internationally. Its a spectacle movie and those tend to do well overseas.

On this front. Are there any major women characters? I read they completely cut out May Calamawy, who was apparently a major lead. Looking at the cast list, there seems to be no one else outside of Connie.

Connie is it, I'm afraid. Really curious who Calamawy's character even was.

We'll find out in the special edition home release in about a year.

I dunno, she wasn't even at the premiere it seems. Only trace of her at this point is Pedro Pascal posting photos with her on Instagram today.

The bombshell has left many surprised, considering how early promotional stills and reports had placed Calamawy’s character as central to the movie. She was supposed to play the love interest of Lucius, played by Paul Mescal, the protagonist who takes center stage in the story 24 years from the events of the original film. A still of the two characters sharing a kiss was among the pre-release material that raised expectations about her importance.

Yeah neither movie is hitting at the same level as their Barbenheimer counterparts, but they're still doing well, so it's really just like a mini-Barbenheimer situation for opening weekend. Wicked's gonna have some legs though for sure. This one, I have doubts on that front.

I think Gladiator II will be okay through the holiday season simply because there aren't really any other blockbuster films that are aimed specifically at adults.....besides Kraven the Hunter, of course, which will easily outgross everything else. :o

Its a decent sequel. The action is great, Denzel is great (like always), and it was nice to see some returning faces.

That being said, Mescal lacks so much presence here. Nowhere near the amount Russel Crowe had, and he was outshined by everybody else in the film.

Still, I had a good time. Can't go lower or higher than a 7/10.

This is disheartening to discover. I also wonder if giving Lucius a love interest would have helped me connect with his character more. Giving him something to fight for was sorely lacking in this script and giving him an emotional tether would have greatly helped, I think.

Make no mistake Paul Mescal is a good actor. However he did not have the gravitas for this film. Oof. I don't think he necessarily performed poorly, he just didn't bring anything interesting. And the fact he doesn't pull it off hurts Gladiator II for me.

Shame too because I think with the right lead, I may have enjoyed this more than the first because it's so ridiculous of a movie. But as it stands it was a bit of a slog for me.

Not a terrible movie by any means just a bit unremarkable.

Wow I had no idea until now that Hannibal was rated so low back in the day. I actually like that movie quite a bit, but I realize its nowhere near as good as Silence of the Lambs which makes sense.

Now, I haven't seen Gladiator 2 yet because I'm waiting to watch it with family tomorrow but based on everything, I've heard it sounds like its a similar drop in quality in comparison to Gladiator. Its legs should be interesting to watch from here on out, but I can still see it doing well enough over the holidays.

There just isn't anything BIG out right now that's aimed at that audience.

Barbenheimer is the Barbie to Glickeds Allen

So was Acacius marriage to Lucilla supposed to be a political one? Like he didn't actually love her, and he was only marrying her to help keep her safe?

Maybe that was the case. Either way I can see why they cut a character like that since they did present Acacius as Lucilla's husband, and he says he loves her in the film.

Hollywood just forces these actors on you. Pedro is getting pushed like no other
Not without reason. Audiences have really taken to his characters in Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian and The Last of Us. Pedro isn't getting pushed by Hollywood the way that, say, Sam Worthington or Taylor Kitsch were.

I just finished this movie. It is okay, but when I want my Gladiator fix, why would I ever watch this instead of Gladiator? Gladiator is one of my favorite films and one people will watch for the next however many years. It is timeless. No one will discuss this film in even 2 years time. It just offers nothing compelling I cannot get served but better in Gladiator
