After finally watching Furt and Special Education in their entirety last night, a few thoughts:
- Burt was badass in Furt when he got after Karofsky. I also liked the guys confronting Karofsky.
- Sue was awesomeness personified in multiple scenes, including any scene with Kurt, and where she tells her mom off. It's great when Jane Lynch gets to play Sue as more of a person instead of a cartoon (although the cartoon is entertaining too).
- as obnoxious as Rachel usually is, her little bonding moments with Kurt are adorable, and I wanted them to sing Don't Cry For Me Argentina together
- Will's blow-up on Rachel wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, and it wasn't directed solely at her, he starts out with her then moves on to everyone else
- Emma is a moron (although her "counseling session" with Finchel was hilarious)
- Santana is probably the least redeemable character on the show. Even Karofsky and Terri have some semi-sympathetic/understandable motivation for their cruelty.
- Dalton wasn't as sinister as some people were making it out to be. Yes they're conformist and a little Stepford-ish, but they included Kurt in their oldest and most sacred traditions and even offered him an audition for a solo when he'd been there for like a day. And while the council was a little condescending about his song suggestions, you can't really blame them for shooting him down when he goes all Rachel on them and starts rattling off his ideas like he's in charge when he's the brand new kid who has never proven himself with them. And I didn't get the hate on Blaine from some people in this episode. Yes, he goes along with Dalton's conformity, but I didn't see him as trying to "stifle" Kurt, I saw it as Blaine knows Dalton better than Kurt does and was trying to guide him along. And I don't think Blaine sabotaged Kurt's solo audition, in fact I got the distinct impression he hooked him up with that in the first place.
- the bird in the cage metaphor was about as subtle as a brick, but it worked I guess
- Finn had a point about Rachel cheating on him when he didn't cheat on her considering she was dating Jesse at the time, although I still felt a little bad for Rachel (not something I feel that often)
- I actually really enjoyed Hey Soul Sister.
- Sam still bores me to death. Now that they've decided against making him Kurt's boyfriend he seems extraneous and pointless.
