Indeed. Like if they would use MechaGodzilla, he might be saved for the final film so they could so how they've been working on this thing for years. Hell, even doing a Cyborg MUTO would work.
if they go that route, I can see Monarch playing a huge role in that, too.
maybe these monsters have sleep/hibernation/dormancy periods, and their next waking cycle just happens to be the modern times ( human encounters with them in the past could be shown as the basis of the fantastic beasts we see in our legends, stories, and mythology ).
or else, they are woken up due to some external event ( such as a meteor or alien intervention ).
Can't recall. I just remember him smashing through it while being fired upon. Either way, I can't think of a time where he intentionally tried not to destroy something.

when he stared into Ford's eyes and had this look in his eyes .
So, I watched the movie in 2D at 4pm at the Carmike 6. $5.75 ticket, took bro with me.
....It's easier to do a Con/Pro list.
Pro's:
The music was kinda nice at times.
Aaron as Ford seemed decent.
Bryan Cranston as Joe was the best actor [BLACKOUT]for what time he had in the film[/BLACKOUT]
The monsters and destruction looked nice.
The entire movie visually is nice.
It kept me mostly entertained and I actually held my breathe and choked a bit in the right places.
Cons:
Oh for the love....the monster fights aren't anything special.
Not enough screen time for the monsters.
Not enough back story for Godzilla.
Godzilla's special weapon[BLACKOUT]his atomic breathe was too short. He fires it 3 times and only charges up once. When he charges it up, my god, yes. That was awesome. But I wanted more.[/BLACKOUT]
A better story and...script would be nice. Yes, the movie kept me entertained...and I did like these characters, but...they needed work and monsters needed more time.
The good thing is, there are a few shots in trailers/tv spots that aren't in the movie. Which are...
Train scene. We don't see the Marines flashlights EXPLODE from some wind or whatever like in the second trailer. And we don't have that speech about the HALO jump in the teaser. Although that speech wasn't needed.
Overall: Eh....well, I feel like seeing it again in theaters. But...honestly, only see it for a afternoon showing or on dvd/blu. I'd like to see a Director's Cut of this movie. It was long as is with hardly any action. And yes, it's better than 98 Godzilla. I dunno if it's better than Godzilla 2000 or any of the other ones in the Millennium series. Well, it's better than Godzilla: Final Wars. That one does have more action, but it's not quality action.
Oh and another thing. Where was the...
Insect monster? The two MUTO's were one and the same. One was bigger and didn't have wings was all.
Let me just assure you, having seen the Heisei series of movies, you actually don't want Godzilla to use his atomic breath that often. Laser fights are fun in Star Wars, not so much in monster fights.

Just got back. I saw it in IMAX 3D. Liked it quite a lot! There were many many unintentionally hilarious moments in the film. The people I went with and I had a kick out of laughing about them on the way home. ATJ was as good as anyone could have been in his role. I quite liked his character. Didn't care that much for Cranston. I don't see why everyone is saying his performance was so great, but he was good enough. The scenes with Godzilla were, of course, the best part. Hope the next movie focuses on him a bit more though. So all in all I'd say it was an 8/10. It got enough right to be entertaining. They nailed Godzilla himself.
I didn't like the score very much. Usually I don't notice the score unless it is really good. But in this there were several awesome moments where I felt the score could've added so much more. Like the score in Avengers made the team up shot absolutely epic.
The role didn't allow a whole ton of room for an amazing performance. I thought he did great with what he had. I don't have any complaints with his acting. He was a good leading man.
Saw it. Liked it. It's flawed, almost too flawed, but there's enough done right to look past what's wrong. The biggest problem isn't the (misguided) monster teases. It's the nondescript characters, and how we then spend two thirds of the movie on them. That aside, Cranston's scenes and the creatures themselves are well worth watching it again.

After the end of this movie, I can't see them trying to maintain a "secret" Monster Island. Probably it'd be more like a government sanctioned Godzilla zone or something.
I'm calling bull**** - Gareth Edwards said himself (in several interviews) that he hates after credits scenes... so why would there be one if he's so against them? I won't believe it until I actually see the real scene myself. I'm not saying you're making it up, but this sounds like B.S. to me. I checked online and the rumors are saying the same thing. (In China, apparently.)
Absolutely loved this movie. The final battle. Pure ****ing awesomeness. My friend and I were geeking out over the atomic breath. Everything with this movie click with me and was so well done. Need this right now on blu ray t:
This will almost make in it's opening weekend what Pacific Rim made in it's entire domestic run. Guess name recognition really counts. I liked Godzilla a lot more but their previews looked to have the same type of content.
