well, I loved the film, and at the end of the day, that's the most important thing...........to me. :o

The funny thing is notice how all the people that disliked or hated this film, are still in this thread discussing it hahaha. I loved the film but I just find it funny how they still need to keep going on and on about their dislike for it. I dunno I just don't grasp it, I don't go into threads for films I don't like to discuss for hours on end my dislike for it.

It's a discussion board...about movies.

We're discussing it. Not just movies we like can be discussed.

Interesting quote from Edwards interview in Fangoria a while back.

For me, the more people at my job talk about it and the more I think about this movie the more angry and disappointed I get. Boring humans besides Bryan Cranston who take up way to much screen time, the movie takes itself WAY to serious an was in desperate need of humor and little actual Godzilla. If anyone is still interested in seeing this, I honestly just say sneak into the last 20 mins of the movie. The rest of the movie ain't worth wasting your time with in my opinion. Hopefully, X-Men Days of Future Past doesn't disappoint this week... which by going by reviews and early word of mouth seems like it won't.

So far everyone I know who has seen it likes it. Even the people here at my office really enjoyed it. Which is good because I was really hoping for a sequel! =D

The humans being boring is not true, they are always doing something to advance the plot forward or get us ready for another view of the big guys, they might not be full of depth or charisma, but boring they are not.

My video review show Epic Film Guys finally finished our giant review for a monster film, here's our review of Godzilla! Please watch and let us know what you think!

Cool review man, nice discussion vibe. I agree with the majority of what was said, but it's mostly a nice break from the intense hate/dogmatic adoration dichotomy found on SHH that was enjoyable.

The guys discussed the flaws and addressed them but didn't let those detract completely from enjoying the experience of the movie, which I think is the whole point of seeing films.

You seem to want a Godzilla movie to be about something other than what the character was designed for. It's supposed to be an allegory for man's relationship with nature, that relationship is the key theme, not Godzilla himself. I can sympathize with people who wanted more of him in the movie, I did too, but that wasn't the point and I don't think it makes it a bad movie, although it may make it unenjoyable for some people.

"Some humor and more Godzilla" could have detracted from its faithfulness to the central themes and ideas the original movie was trying to communicate. It delivers commentary on very serious issues, it would be disingenuous for them to add humor into it to satisfy audiences.

I'm really glad that movies like Godzilla are still being made, the current cinematic landscape really seems to be catering just to spoon-feeding people instant gratification sensory overload designed to assault your eyes for 90 minutes.

Agreed. A character can be "stock", or somewhat 2-dimensional, but still advance the plot in an effective manner.

Then you have characters like Shia's parents in the Transformers movies, who are so amped-up in an attempt to make them funny that they just annoy the crap out of everyone.

This. I loved it and am pumped for it on Blu ray and a sequel. That is all. :woot:

I was never bored during this movie. Some of the character stuff was dumb, and I would have liked some more of the Big G. But I didn't find the movie boring

Yeah, it definitely wasn't a boring movie. The action set pieces are genuinely thrilling and suspenseful and the story was pretty good. I just think the characters themselves could have been a bit more interesting.

But I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it. I friggin' applauded and cheered when
Godzilla unleashed his atomic breath down that one MUTO's throat and then ripped her head off.

I wouldn't have cared about the humans IF they were interesting. None besides Bryan Cranston have any kind charisma. They were all just there to move the plot along. Nothing memorable about them in the slightest. See Jurassic Park for an example of a good creature movie with good human characters. It also has humor and has something to say that's relevent to society. And in regards to humor this is Godzilla the whole premise is pretty dumb when really think about it, so why try to make this some super serious drama? Just my two cents.

I was the glad the tone was more serious instead of "fun but dumb."

Gojira was super serious. If you were Japanese in 1954, that movie was some heavy stuff. Because it brought it all back to the war. The atom bombs, the firebombing of Tokyo.

Godzilla evolved into something goofy. And then was taken back to a more serious take, which itself evolved into something goofy again... and once again was taken back to an attempt at something more serious.

TOHO's pattern, and this is something Gareth Edwards really aimed for I believe, was to start things out with a heavy message. Nothing about Gojira 1954 was light-hearted. Why should the 60th anniversary be light-hearted? This movie absolutely managed to capture the heavy socio-political and ethical concerns of the original Gojira... and meld it with the VS aspects of the Heisei Godzilla series, which themselves had a more serious tone than most of the Showa versus movies.

I watched Gojira '54 and Godzilla vs Mothra 1992 in the two weeks prior to seeing this movie, and I really felt like Edwards captured the feel of both those films/periods.

I wonder what made Gareth change his mind? Or does he some how think he fulfilled the aspiration listed above?

I think the look of the film is something to behold, really. I'm impressed that this is Gareth Edwards' first big budget film, to be honest.

I also cheered with the atomic breath fatality, but I cheered at a lot of things during the finale, especially the tail whip fatality. Great stuff.

And the final victory tune after the last one, AWESOME!

but the problem is I THINK the humans are so boring.

Please, this is your opinion, it's not a fact.

I don't think we have to add that to every post. It is that user's post, so yes, it's their opinion.

The original film and most of the Heisei films differ. At best a lot of the time, Godzilla defeats another monster and then keeps destroying things himself.

Seems somewhat reminiscent of someone else...

Hmm...

:bh:

I was bored out of my mind throughout the 2nd and 3rd acts.
