Still arguing about why he killed the mutos??

They breed parasites that feed off and can kill Godzilla, of course he wants them dead.

I propose something:

We tail-slam anyone who doesn't like this movie!!!!!!

That will teach them to not se the things the way I do!!!

It's not just that. He killed them because it's about keeping balance with nature.

I just took Godzilla fighting the MUTOs as "This world is MY territory, b******! Imma kill you now, because I'M the King!"

These monsters felt very animal-like to me, which is why I got the vibe that Godzilla was territorial. He might be "restoring balance," but I think that's more of an accident more than Godzilla's motives. His motives are to kick butt and take names, because Earth is HIS house.

Lions will attack and kill cheetahs and leopards if they have the opportunity. Doing so will prevent them from becoming a rival for food later down the line... it's simple animal behavior.

The finishing kill of the last creature was my absolute favorite part of the movie.
What was up with Godzilla falling down right after that though?

Thats not to say the cast were bad, the parts were all acted well, but the writing was the problem at times, and as for the MUTO's, I agree with others that they were a little bit too Cloverfield for my liking, I would have liked something a bit more original.

There's really not all that much resemblance outside of the length of the front appendages. The MUTO's were far more insect-like, which always seems to be the go-to foundation for alien designs in movies these days. Cloverfield was much more anthropomorphic and freaky looking.

Ya, that part lost me completely. My only guess was he was dying from the wounds he took from the MUTOs before defeating them.

I figured he was just tired from the fight. He'd been either traveling or fighting that whole time. The atomic breath probably takes alot of energy.

As my wife said, "He just needed a nap"

He was tired and wanted to take a nap.

I'm not even joking, I think that's what that was.

Godzilla falling in slow motion while somewhat locking eyes with Aaron Taylor Johnson was one of the worst moments in the film for me.

Drew lots of unintentional laughs at my showing. I'm sure others were different but that's how it played at my showing.

Actually not a bad shot. Maybe you should avoid places where plebs hang out?

Nobody laughed at mine...don't see what was funny about it, and frankly I'm always skeptical of "my theater laughed at that scene" stories.

Which was stupid reasoning. Godzilla = Anakin Skywalker now.

Godzilla killing the MUTOs are very much like how the Heisei Godzilla generally sought out battles against other threatening forces that appeared on Earth. Like a force of nature or Alpha predator, he was eliminating threats within his territory. Godzilla generally regards the entire planet as his territory and will instinctively seek out and destroy any imbalances that are present within it. It doesn't matter where the threat is located, he will march a course towards his primary target.

Even the earlier Showa Godzilla incarnation displayed this same trait before in numerous films.

Although this is a small moment, you feel sympathy towards Godzilla, when you see both him and Ford Brody look at each other during the final battle. They are both battle worn, and are both fighting with all they have. They are both on opposite ends, and yet in a sense are fighting on the same battlefield against something that needs to be destroyed. Even though Godzilla is also in that same category that mankind wants to destroy as well. At this moment, you can see a character behind Godzilla, its foggy to make out, but you can see it in his eyes that there's more than a monster in himself.

It makes you want to root for Godzilla, to see him come out on top and survive at the end. Yes he's a monster, a horrifying monster, but he's the lesser of two evils(Well technically three evils) trying to rid of a greater threat than himself. He's not our champion, and he's not our hero, but he's the only thing that can stop everything from completely going to hell(Even though things are already at that kind of state by the time this scene occurs).

He's not on our side, but we should be on his, temporarily of course, as his interests align with our own for the time being. Not in a "The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend." sort of sense. But more in the tone of, the enemy of my enemy could be my only chance in surviving this current situation, at least before ultimately having to deal with him should fortunate favor both of our survival.

Resorting to insults because people laughed at that cheesy part of the movie? Was a terrible shot, I hate when movies try to make the monster sympathetic.

Well got to the cinema today. Sat down the opening credits rolled and then the projector gave up. Got a refund and free ticket. Better luck next time

That's how I am about the cliche "Oh everyone clapped" ..... especially here in America. I don't understand how my theater could be dead silent throughout the film and somebody else's having the time of their lives. Especially here in sunny Scottsdale, AZ.

I'm with you guys but funnily enough there was a full class of school kids and their teacher in the showing I went to and they actually did clap at the end as well as various gasps and exclamations of "Yes!" when Godzilla did something cool, plus the collective giggling of a 20+ strong group of 10 year olds when Brody kissed his wife. :funny:

Everyone in my theater started pulling their hair out. One guy bit into his armrest and another set his pants on fire before shoving popcorn into his ears.

Oh well, I got a refund.
