Hopefully it sends a message that they need better characters and they can't tease us like that with the fight scenes in the sequel.

Teases were fine IMO. But yeah, it definitely needs more compelling characters.

Yeah a bit more character stuff, and some more monsters are always welcomed, but overall is a great film, it doesn't try to shove us a sequel down the throat like many other movies this days, i was really happy for that

No they weren't because they were the biggest flaw of the movie and the movie's biggest complaint among moviegoers.

It too a big drop, like 77 percent, thats too bad. X men really took a bite out of the movie. It but i kind of expected a drop like this, xmen and superheroes draw more crowds than giant monsters and the reviews were pretty good. thankfully Godzilla had a huge first weekend, but studios are really craming their movies more and more, you cant have 2 weeks for yourself now a days. Still i hope its successful enough for future movies

That is just Friday to Friday not weekend to weekend, makes a big difference.

Oh i see, and after Xmen it will be a non stop of new releases, transformers, maleficent, that tom cruise movie, how to train your dragon, there isnt really much room to breath for a movie now a days. I don't know why people say that there are less movies being made, dosent feel that way at least. Hopefully it opens huge in Asia, that will certainly help the movie

Was it ever said why Godzilla disappeared in the 50's and not show his face again for another 50-60 years?

He did say imo, so the teases didn't bother him. It is possible to have different opinions than other moviegoers you know. I didn't mind the teases either and thought godzilla had the perfect amount of screentime. Who are you to say what did and didn't work for each individual person?

Godzilla and ASM2 both had huge drops, and both had mixed word of mouth.

Will be interesting to see how X-Men holds up since it seems to have the best WOM of movies coming out this month so far.

Is there any HUGE new release next weekend?

Saw it for the second time, still love it.

Yeah, that is a bad drop. Luckily, unlike Spider-man, Godzilla's budget will let it take weak legs with that opening. I'm confident the sequel will be a bit more crowd pleasing.

Surprise surprise .... big drop and clearly lacking in the WOM department to save it. Was obvious that was going to be the case when I saw it and I stated as much in here.

wow you really dont like this movie. The drop was pretty predictable so there is no surprise there, it was obvious that Xmen would do huge business and would take most of the same audience , and it doesn't need saving it will make its money back and some more, for a summer movie it wasn't the most expensive, Spiderman probably cost 100 million more than this

I think it would be foolish to dismiss that Godzilla is facing some stiff competition this weekend. At least it still did more than the Adam Sandler movie. Something Pacific Rim can't brag about... (goes off to cry about the memory)

I don't like 2/3rd's of the film (the first act had me so hopeful) and I'm sick of filmmakers spoon-feeding this crap to movie-goers. Just because it's a summer spectacle doesn't mean I have to accept a piss poor screen play for a movie where the human actors end up wooden and have to carry most of the load.

Yeah i agree that the lead wasn't the best, and Cranston should have taken over the movie, he is infinitely a more solid actor. I haven't seen Johnson in other roles so i dont know if he is always as inexpressive, i wonder how the film would have turned out with Cavill in the lead, i think he was a much better choice and a more solid actor.

Still the rest of the movie was great for me, i liked the teases personally and it delivered in the end, and you could see everything every shot clearly so its still a great movie for me, probably and 8 or 9 out of 10, but i understand some criticisms . Other critics i think are way way exaggerated but different tastes i guess

Sigh, even a great movie with no strong competition in week 2 dropped 56.6%.

If TWS(which I rated a 10 btw) had something big coming out the next week it might not have dropped the predicted 63% of Godzilla but it would almost certainly drop more than it did.

Spiderman and Cap 2 had big dropoffs as well with no significant competition within its own age demographic.

X-men on the other hand directly draws from Godzillas audience.... Godzilla is also facing the ultimate enemy of american giant monster movies in Adam Sandler...
Hopefully the long weekend with people taking in multiple films means the repeat business for godzilla does happen... either way, I really enjoyed the movie, the concept is great on so many levels...

Pro-gay rights movie, Godzilla disrupts heterosexual couple from engaging in intercourse in the streets of San Francisco.

or

Godzilla is a tragic love story about two romantic leads who waited a millenia and went against all odds to find each other, only to be murdered by an obese serial killer with bad breath.

This is full of win! :woot::woot::woot:

right this movie cost 160mill and will clear 230mill domestic while spidey cost 250mill and will do about 210mill domestic so sequel is safe

Audiences have become so impatient these days. I loved the teases, it really built up to the epic final battle. If they had shown the full fights all three times then each one would have less of an impact.

Totally agree i really enjoyed the teasers, really smart way to gradually build the climax, the MUTOs really surprised me too. I didnt expect too look that good and menacing, they really felt like animals , top notch work there

Godzilla looked beautiful too, I would have liked too see more interaction with the military but i think it was a solid script, except for who was the lead in the end, the rest was pretty solid, humans tried to resolve the situation with the tech they had, and it showed how powerless man can be

Taylor Kitsch, Charlie Hunnam?
