Which film pulled of the vs concept better for you?

Bonus Round:

Do either of these films hold a candle to Captain America: Civil War in your eyes?

Kong v Godzilla is brainless fun.

Batman v Superman is moody, dark and made me dislike my two favorite superheroes.

So I'll go with brainless fun.

These films aren't even remotely close to Civil War which is one of the MCU's best films full stop IMHO.

I would far rather re-watch Godzilla v Kong than go near BvS again. At least it accepts that its dumb and has fun with it whereas BvS is dumb but thinks its actually really smart..

And Civil War is orders of magnitude superior to either. Its the gold standard when it comes to "versus movies".

Here's my two cents. I'm a huge fan of the SnyderVerse and MonsterVerse. That being said, I'm a far bigger kaiju fan so with Gvk there's obviously a certain bias.

Even so, I feel like it's actually about the same level as GvK if not slightly more action packed do to the human plot and hero plot matching up in terms of quality.

I'd honestly have to give it the win in quality of film regardless of how much more I enjoyed watching GvK. Which to be honest is only a bit more.

Having both films follow an extremely similar plot (Man vs God, God embarrassed man in first encounter, humans in the background trigger a second encounter, heroes fight again, bigger threat joins, special weapon allows for threat to be defeated). You can only really judge it on execution and while I'd only look up from my phone for fights and kaiju on a GvK rewatch I'd be glued to my screen with BCS

Final Score:

BvS: 4/5 Stars, simply a better composure.

GvK: 3/5 Stars, the kaiju carry the film so hard its not even funny.

I feel like both films have nonsensical plots but (and I’m being serious here) somehow Kong has better character development than Superman and that’s just unforgivable to me. Godzilla gets a little shortchanged and portrayed as a destructive beast but I can let that go because he’s never really been a character known for his compassion aside from some sillier versions of the character.

Batman fairs better than Supes in BvS but in a movie about the two most iconic superheroes of all time coming to blows and eventually teaming up, they both should have gotten their due. Ironically, BvS treats Superman like he’s a kaiju; an unstoppable force of nature incapable of showing any real leadership or charisma that would help people understand that he’s not a threat.

Neither hold a candle to Civil War.

But I'd choose GvK over BvS. The main draw for my reawatches in BvS is Wonder Woman but its always hard for me to get through.

And Wonder Woman isn’t even that good in BvS. Yeah she looked cool and badass and all that but she’s just kinda tacked on and doesn’t really add much to the movie. Compare that to Black Panther in Civil War, who is a real presence and his involvement fits in perfectly.

I honestly was still iffy on Gadot as Diana until her solo film. Jenkins really knows how to bring out her strengths as an actor.

I'd call it a draw. BvS has a more coherent (albeit still messy) plot and less annoying characters with the exception of Luthor, but GvK was more fun to watch, mercifully shorter and had better fight scenes.

I actually loved both and Civil War for that matter although is CW is getting worse over time for me.

Guess I am just a lucky fanboy who likes a lot of approaches to these characters.

Both films are about big dumb monsters fighting but only one realizes it. Oddly there's more detectable humanity in the giant lizard and monkey too. GvK the easy winner.

I could stomach only 10 minutes of GvK. And skipped through some battle scenes later in the film, which didn't improve my experience. I watched BvS several times. It's guilty pleasure of mine. So the choice is obvious.

Good thing this isn't a poll BvS is getting annihlated. And I actually like it more lol.

GvK is stupid, campy fun that knows exactly what it is. The best parts of BvS, such as Bruce during the battle of Metropolis, are better than the best stuff in GvK but as an overall experience I'll take the shlocky silliness over the posturing self serious silliness.

Civil War is technically better than both of them but that is such a safe, shallow movie which exemplifies most of my big issues with the MCU and spends a good part of its runtime undercutting its own premise so I'm not going to praise it too hard.

Going with GvK. With what the film set out to accomplish, it succeeded.

Neither GvK or BVS are better than Civil War, but I'd argue that the Monsterverse did as relatively a good job building to its versus film with 3 films as the MCU did to building towards Civil War.

If the Ultimate Edition of BvS would have been released in theaters, I think the general reception would be better. Most people never wanted to watch it again, let alone a longer version.

BvS: UE is superior to GVK imo

Easily G v K.

and as for Civil War. I know that I am in the minority here, but I hate that film with a passion.

Godzilla v Kong was much better. That was a good battle.
