In light of my Abuse of Power Thread, the Is the USA a Pseudo-Fascist state thread and others I bring you the thread that shows people are in general good. No matter the religion or the circumstance the thing that brings us together as humans is the fact that we all want each and everyone of us to be happy. There are so many things in the world that bring us down because that is what gets headlines but the fact of the matter is, more often than not, we humans do things that make our society a better place and here is the proof.

Feel free to post any stories that show the good in humanity and especially those in power that bring a special feeling to your heart because we as a species need to know that no matter how bad things get there are those who care.

Police officer buys bed, TV, Wii for teen

A Sumter police officer went above and beyond for a 13-year-old boy.

A few weeks ago, 13-year-old Cameron Simmons called Sumter police because he was upset after fighting with his mom. The teenager told police he didn't want to live in the house with his family anymore.

Officer Gaetano Acerra responded to the call.

"I said, ‘You have it good, you have a roof over your head,'" said Acerra. "I told him I would try to help him out, and here we are now."

The officer brought Simmons home, and realized the boy didn't have a real bed. In fact, Simmons didn't have nearly anything he needed for a bedroom.

"My heart went out for him," said Acerra. "I thought the little things that he needed I could give him, to make him a happier kid."

A few weeks after the call, Acerra showed up at Simmon's house with a truck full of gifts.

"Bed, TV, desk, chair, a Wii game system that somebody donated to me because of the story I told them," said Acerra.

Simmons told Acerra that because of the new bed, his back won't hurt anymore.

Simmons was sleeping on an inflatable mattress. The teenager said the mattress would slowly deflate throughout the night.

"I didn't do this for publicity or to get people to notice me," Acerra said. "I did it because I could. It was the right thing to do and I think people should do things like this."

Officer Acerra said he has gained more than just a few pats on the back; he's gained friend.

Acerra gave Simmons his cell phone number, and told him to call anytime.

Acerra plans to bring Simmons more bedroom furniture, including a dresser and mirror.

A spokesperson from the Sumter Police Department said Thursday since the story aired, Officer Acerra has fielded a few calls from people wanting to help the Simmons family.

This goes to show that people do care

I know from my own experience that cops usually take care of other cops but here is an example that that does not always happen:

Some jackboot cops were beating up on a mentally ill man, when a ‘good cop’ stepped in. If there were more cops like Officer Tasca, we may not be witnessing the exponential expansion of such a violent police state.

But this type of police officer is not common, which is why Officer Regina Tasca was punished for this intervention.

She stood up against those that would abuse those amongst us who are not in our right mind and don't have control over what we are thinking. I myself have schizophrenia and if for some reason I ever break down and have an episode I hope that an officer such as Officer Tasca is there to make sure I don't hurt myself or anyone else involved. She even stood up in another case, more info at the link

This little kid is better at yo-yo than I am at anything

detycfnc9ut3kthbkvfd.gif

I should just give up. Call it quits. It's over. This cute little kid is better at doing yo-yo tricks than I am at doing anything. Yeah, even things I've done pretty much all my life like breathing or drinking water or cutting my toenails. Even worse for me, he looks so cool (and cute!) doing it. He has so much control over the yo-yo that it looks like it's under some sort of boy wizard spell. You do you, kid. Who cares if the rest of us adults feel bad about ourselves.

The clip shows 6-year-old Kazuya Murata (also known as Yo-Yo Baby) during the Asia Pacific Yo-Yo championships last year. The action starts around the 30 second mark. He's my idol.

Mad yo-yo skills brah

The thing with cats is that once they decide that you belong to them they will fight to keep you. That's what makes relationships hard if you have a cat for a long time. The cat sees you as their property and the intruder is trying to take that away. That's why they get pissy. :p

Roommates Find $41,000 in Used Couch, Return Cash to Elderly Owner

bjo4zrc2immwly9o7yh2.jpg

In April, three roommates were watching a movie in their New Paltz, NY home when they noticed several lumps in the side cushions of their new couch, which they'd purchased two months prior from a Salvation Army. Reese Werkhoven, Cally Guasti, and Lara Russo rooted through the couch's cushions and pulled out several large envelopes stuffed with $20 bills.

"We were just really freaked out by it," Werkhoven told CBS New York. "It had these bubble wrap envelopes, just like two or three of them. We ripped them out and was just like freaking out, like and inch and a half of hundred dollar bills.

"You keep counting more and more money and you get excited, like Reese was thinking about buying a car for his mom and a boat," Russo said.

By the time the final count was in, the trio had more than $41,000 stacked in front of them.

"When we were in the bedroom our neighbors thought we won the lottery or something cause we were just screaming," Guasti said.

Plans to buy cars and boats quickly turned to feelings of guilt, though, once they found the name of the cash's owner on one of the envelopes.

"The entitlement very quickly went away with finding that notice with her name on it. Because we didn't earn that money," Guasti said.

The trio tracked the money's elderly owner down and returned the cash. As you can imagine, the elderly woman was thrilled to have the money—her life savings, she said—back.

"This was her life savings and she actually said something really beautiful like 'This is my husband looking down on me and this was supposed to happen,'" Guasti said.

The roommates didn't leave empty-handed, though; the elderly woman gave them a $1,000 reward.

It's things like that that show you good people do exist. So many would take the money without a second thought but these kids did the right thing and an elderly women got her life savings back which I'm sure she needed.

Ohio Issues Bright Yellow License Plates To Shame DUI Offenders

cwqwqnju8koiuzozq1rt.jpg

I recently learned that the state of Ohio, whose official state rock song – this is a completely true fact – is "Hang On Sloopy" by The McCoys, issues bright yellow license plates to people convicted of driving under the influence. That's right: the folks in the Ohio state legislature have come up with an entirely new, brightly colored way to make its DUI offenders miserable, as if simply living in Ohio wasn't punishment enough.

Apparently this is just for while you have a restricted license after the DUI but I think this is a great idea. Lets everyone around you know they may need to look out for ya and it seems like most people would want to avoid this. There was also a bill to give sex offenders a green plate but for some reason it didn't pass and I think that is an even better idea!

I'd rather they just lose their license permanantly but some people do genuinely make mistakes so this is a better alternative. Second offenses it should be permanant and third ones you lose the ability to drive.

Maryland has become the latest state to get a revenge porn statute onto the books. Governor Martin O'Malley yesterday signed HB 43 into law. It makes the placement of nude photographs on the Internet without consent, and with the intent to cause emotional harm a misdemeanor punishable by two years in prison, or a $5,000 fine.

Every state needs this or something like it on the books in this day and age

Sesame Street Says Take Off Your Oculus Rift And Go Outside

e7ty1e8lvesyvmkoe1kj.gif

In this video from Mashable, the Sesame Street crew, along with Zachary Levi sing about the wonders of putting down your technology and going outdoors on a sunny day. Maybe they just haven't bought into our all virtual reality future.

[YT]xtvPlFty1rE[/YT]

Here are the lyrics, and the clip with Grover and the Oculus is at 1:31.

Every day I sit right there
Sit and stare and check my Facebook, Email, Instagram
Chatting with my friends and making plans.
But on days with lots of sun
I say goodbye to everyone online
And say hello, cuz I know there's a place where all the

Bees are always buzzing 'bout the flowers they have seen.
And every tree is trending,
I don't miss my little screen, because
The sky won't need a filter
And the birds tweet just to say:
You should really take a walk on this lovely
sunny day.

In the park I reconnect
Take some time to self-reflect
Yo, this Snapchat is going to be cray!
No hashtag selfie, put that thing away.
The pigeons make it feel like home
Follow me and we can can roam
Across the grass and see
That now we're running faster than 4G!

On the playground there's a million games to play.
We don't need a fancy tablet with a
retina display.

Because...

The Bees are always buzzing 'bout the flowers they have seen.
And every tree is trending,
I don't miss my little screen, because
The sky won't need a filter
And the birds tweet just to say:
You should really take a walk on this lovely
sunny day.

Just look up and there will be
Bright blue skies, don't need a
Weather app to tell you that.
Subscription to this cloud is free.

Bees are always buzzing 'bout the flowers they have seen.
And every tree is trending,
I don't miss my little screen, because
The sky won't need a filter
And the birds tweet just to say:

You should really take a walk on this lovely
sunny day.

Doesn't get much better than good old Sesame Street. To this day I remember that theme song from when I was a kid

Three Strangers Randomly Created an Incredible Impromptu Jam

[YT]cUFVR5sgbt0[/YT]

A guitar player busking alone outside a supermarket slowly became part of an epic three-part harmony when two random strangers began to jam along.

The video was apparently captured by a Facebook user who initially just happened to like the guitar player's sound.

I was walking to kroger and saw this guy playing a song. It sounded good so I decided to record it. By the end of the song three guys started jamming. This truly is music in its simplest form. It really reminds of the Austin days. Enjoy."
Of course it's not clear how organic the jam actually is, and in the age of Jimmy Kimmel a random harmony is understandably suspect. But real or not, a jam is a jam, and this is a jam.

I've seen plenty of people jam out together like this, always cool

Patton Oswalt "Crashes" A "Patton Oswalt Hater Group"

dafmxe17rmuazr9wmw5w.jpg

Patton Oswalt, a tweeter who trolls (read: "a Twitter user"), attempts to make peace with his haters by staging a (fake) "Patton Oswalt hater" group and then attending to expose them as the unsightly, festering oozes of human scum that they are, dammit.

But! The important lesson this Funny Or Die bit imparts is that trolls are people, too, and they are capable of substance beyond their human desire to say something mean on the internet. People like...Patton Oswalt.

So even though he says some awful things and has a hell of a time baiting people on Twitter, you should remember that Patton Oswalt is a Human Being, too.

Good lessons all around.

Can't link due to language but I'm pretty sure we all know how to find FoD online. This is a great bit too, Patton is the man. I wonder if he gave them lanyards at the end?
