Guardians of the Galaxy GOTG: Spoiler Talk

Do they give some kind of backstory to Thanos, or at least a description of his exact position, what he has done in the past, and what his relation to the Nova Corps is?

To those who have seen this movie, does Star-Lord have his element Gun?

Ayy, only wanna know one thing: Does The Other and his Chitauri appear. It would provide some nice continuity.

EDIT: Yeah, read back a page.

From what others have said, The Other appears and Ronan kills him when he merges the infinity gem with his hammer.

Appears 3 times, once just an avatar of him when talking about who Gamora is (this is in the 4 min clip), second time is EPIC, a big scene with Ronan, Nebula and The Other (who gets killed as TeeKay rightly said) when he turns around and reveals himself and gives Ronan a dressing down is definitely either a stunned silence or crazy ovation moment. Third time is a video call from Thanos in the Dark Aster, with his face filling the entire wall of the ship.

I heard someone say Thanos looked silly/terrible. Is this true? Or does he look cool/like he's supposed to?

Whoever said that was snorting sweet and low. He was powerful and epic in his short scenes. That's all imma say.

Thanos looked amazing! I got chills when he turned around in his throne

I had goosebumps all over my body.

Same here! They kept us waiting for a little bit while Ronan was talking to him and the back of the chair was facing the screen. Then he used his powers to turn The Other's head a complete reversal. Once that chair began to turn my heart started pounding. Was great to see him move and speak. And I'm glad it was such a small part because now I'm even more pumped for when we get the real meat of his appearance!

Wait what does he do to the other's head? I thought Thanos doesn't show power

Was there a mid-credit scene at the screenings?

Just had a quick question. Did they explain what stone the Aether was? I was confused bc I thought it would be the power stone, but they said the Orb was the power stone, and of course Tesseract the Space Stone.

It was Ronan actually that killed The Other. I might've mixed my words up in the previous post? Ronan sends out an energy blast as The Other is trying to prevent him from talking directly with Thanos and it snaps his neck, turning his head backwards.

As badass as Ronan is in the movie, I wish there was something that would happen to instill fear into him. Thanos apparently looks imposing, but I want to see the characters fear him. Like, if he had Ronan by the neck or something

Atmy screening there was only one scene after the movie and its completely adorable. I don't use that word often but that's the best way to describe it.

To PokeJ, I dont remember them specifically explaining what the Aether was. They did show a quick scene with all the stones and what would happen should one person control them. If they did say what it represented then I missed it.

Could you say what the scene is?

And, there is a Infinity Stone exposition scene with the Collector? Sounds awesome.

So what would happen if one person controlled them all? Does it represent them like the comics, actual omnipotence? Or is it a bit downplayed?

And what exactly happens in the scene with Thanos?

Thanks for any info!

And, there is a Infinity Stone exposition scene with the Collector? Sounds awesome.

Yeah! Before the movie ended Groot sacrificed himself to save the other Guardians. And shortly after there was a scene with Rocket carrying pot of soil with a stick protruding from it. The scene after the movie showed Drax in the background cleaning his knives with the tiny Groot in the foreground, still inside the pot, dancing to a Jackson 5 song. Drax turned and looked really quick and Groot stopped dancing acting as if he was being still the entire time. Got a huge reaction from the audience.

And to address what Infinity Stone scene, from what I recall it was pretty spot on with the comics. They got all the info when they finally met The Collector. Basically the possessor of the group of stones would become an unstoppable God like being. There was a quick moment showing some Celestials (I believe) too. Looked a lot like Eson the Searcher to me or possibly Arishem the Judge.

And the scene with Thanos, my mind is severely drawing a blank right now of what Ronan and Thanos said to each other. I think I was focusing so much on how Thanos looked and talked that part of my brain blocked out some of the details. Ronan was definitely a pawn for Thanos at that moment, but as soon has he got hold of the Infinity Stone he wanted to go back and kill Thanos. If anyone else who's seen the movie is reading the thread, maybe they can chime in with some better details for that scene.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. So we actually see Celestials... YESSS! Is it implied that the Infinity Stones originate from the Celestials or during the early part of the universe and what not?

I could be wrong but, when the Collector was talking about the stones i thought they showed a celestial destroying a world. To me it looked like Exitar, the Celestial who showed up in the current run of Uncanny Avengers. I could totally be wrong, though

Once again, does Star-Lord have his Element Gun in this movie?

In McWeeny's review he says

... there's a scene in the middle of the movie that suddenly drops perhaps the single biggest puzzle piece in the overall Marvel movie universe into place, offering up a connective perspective that should allow even the most casual of viewers to suddenly understand the bigger picture a little better, but there's no denying that it is a familiar shape for these films.

Can someone elaborate on this?
