Yes, yes, I know what's coming. And I'm fully prepared to be turned down on such an idea... but honestly, with all of the comments made over the last few months, it seems like this is the one idea I've ever had that people would be even slightly interested in giving another chance.
What I want to discuss is how we can improve Why So Serious?'s concept. The obvious thing we need to keep is some sort of basic ties to the movie, to keep it from being another comic game... however, I wouldn't be opposed to making said ties more obscure. For instance, Batman could have taken down Carmine Falcone before the game began, but Scarecrow's still active, and Ra's Al Ghul could have never re-appeared. Simple stuff like that that leaves character choices and story options more open to the players.
Another thing we could work to establish is that this is by no means a linear continuity. Elements of Batman Begins and the comics like Year One could have been used as the basis starting point, but from there on, this is our own story. I felt like one of the biggest problems of the last game was that it followed too closely to what could've led into TDK's continuity... let's avoid that from happening again. One way to do this is by allowing characters who would normally be excluded because of the mythology (IE: Nightwing, Bane, Red Hood, ect.) to actually be allowed, so as to not just say 'well, the comics are our bible, so we have to follow them to a tee'. No. No, we don't. And we have to make that clear.
Another thing. Guest stars are allowed from the getgo, but they're never to bring the story out of Gotham City. The same limitations would be needed for superpowers aswell. One rule to prevent multiple guest stars being taken up instead of Gothamites is that guest stars can only be picked up as second characters. The first character one plays has to be a Gothamite, and they have to play them for a specific period of time before they're allowed a guest star.
I'd really love to hear your ideas, because I think there's still a demand for this game. And since The Dark Knight already hit, I think the potential for it to be a less limiting, more fluid game could be quite vast.
