TV shows and Movies Only. No Books.

Okay, for an RPG with as many possible characters as it has, it won't be so easy to throw up an app and go with it. We'll need to discuss and plan how this will work exactly.

Now, there will need to be some exclusions. So, any major franchises like LOTR or Star Trek should probably be excluded from this. Also, any RPGs that have been made or tried on Hype should also be excluded. I.E. Heroes, Star Wars, Transformers. And, obviously, no Superhero movie character either. Not even those that aren't used in RPGs.

Now, in addition to these exclusions, Time Travel should also be something that can't just "happen", no matter who the character is. Not yet anyway. However, I think that the TimeTravel characters are important, because they can take future or past characters to the present.

That being said, I think our world, the current present, is what this RPG's main focus should be. This meaning, 2008 is the year where all of this takes place mainly. Now, back to the timetravel stuff, if there are characters from the past or future (I.E. Pirates of the Carribean or Planet of the Apes) they can be brought here through timetravel or time travel character. This way, we don't randomly have people showing up.

One final idea I would have for the intergrity of this thing, is that we keep cartoon characters out of this. I realize how cool it'd be to have Homer Simpson teaming up with Jason Bourne, but for this thing to stay stable, I think we should restrict cartoon characters right now.

Alright, these are my ideas and such for an RPG as complicated as this. I'd like input from other posters, and help to develop this thing so one day we may actually have an RPG like this to play.

Keep in mind, what I said is not stone, it is not the rules, it's simply my ideas. Thanks a head of time, and I hope we can come up with a good plan.

So, is there a specific reason why they would all be in the same universe? Or is it just something to be accepted as automatically happened....if that makes sense.

Because the majority of movies/TV take place in "real time" meaning the time in which they are made, we'll make the place where this all happens mainly our current time.

As for the "universe" aspect, yes. It'll all be reletively the same universe. Maybe for the more crazy movie stories and such, we'll make an alternate universe to fit it.

I'm interested. I agree with the exclusion of chartoon characters. I've already got someone in mind

I'll see where it goes. Don't have an idea of who I'd play, but I'm interested.

I think this would be a great RPG, because it could encompass some great TV shows that have failed as their own RPG. I think this one will eliminate the need for such RPGs all together. I don't think there should be restriction on what franchise you should use. Personally, I think if we have alot of Heroes characters show up would be no different that if lots of X-Men.

A similar idea has been tried before, but fell on its face. So while I could potentially be interested, I think I'd wait and see how it develops before I commit to it.

Yes, but, in that RPG we had Darth Vader. :o

In all seriousness, I understand the complications that arise with this RPG idea, and that's why I refuse to put it up to application until we have any and all kinks worked out.

I agree with most of the restrictions, but LotR and Star Trek? It's clear those will never be made into RPG's, so I say why not?

Actually, I've heard quite a few people express interest in a Star Trek RPG...

Even I would like to dabble with one, and I'm not even that big of a Trekkie.

And with the movie in December, it might get one.

Plus, why rule out LoTR for it's own game? It almost writes itself for the perfect movie series to be adapted into a roleplaying game. Not to mention that I'm sure the guys who wanted Gods & Men to survive wouldn't be completely opposed to the idea.

Bruce, you'll get the money in a safe deposit box at East Central. ... :ninja:

You better not come up short this time. :cmad:

Not the first time I've heard that before. :csad:

Plus, LoTR might get picked up in a Fantasy RPG idea. I think it's been pondered already.

Well, it depends on what you define 'dead' as. If 'dead' to you means that no one is really interested, and an application will never be made, then...yes, it's dead. However, if dead to you means that an application will be made but never approved, then...yes, it's also dead.

And with the movie in December, it might get one.

It's been pushed back to May.

As for making this work, I'm thinking of everything co-existing in one universe the same way DC and Marvel co-exist in OU. They've just always been in the same universe.

Imagine it like when tv shows have crossovers. All the CSI's live in the same world (and in the same world as Without a Trace since they had a crossover too). Similarly, Law & Order is in the same world as Homicide (since Munch is in both). It's just that, in this world, the crossover would expand to include everything in the game. All the movies and shows.

Which also means that we need to keep it confined to the modern day 'real world', at least for the first season or so. And also include things that could be adapted to the real world if it took place in another time on film. (Imagine MacGyver just starting out and being active now rather than in the 1980's.)

I like that idea. No pissing around with alternate dimensions and all that jazz.

So...I think we should start considering this RPG. Do we have a general agreement on the One Universe idea?

Start considering this RPG? It has had such little feedback. The interest in this RPG doesn't seem high.

The intrest in you isn't high! :cmad: ... :csad:

If this doesn't kick off, I'm still writing a fanfic about what I was going to do here. :o
