Marvel Origins RPG Concept Thread

Otherwise known as Dawn of Marvels, I think this has been a very good RPG idea, we just need people to stand by a character or two while the game is starting up. Another reboot would be awesome.

For those who don't remember this or weren't a part of it, it is very much like Ultimate Universe, except we get to start from scratch. One thing to consider is whether or not we already have the Avengers, X-Men, etc formed, or if we wanted to take the time to write the backstory. What are your thoughts?

Why keep rebooting this thing if it only dies with the lack of interest. Let's make something different about this that entices people.

I've finally become jaded against this concept. I'd be all for a What If? rehaul, however.

I think the reason this game failed so many times was, honestly, how many times does one want to read how Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man?

Like I said, something new. Problem is, gotta come up with a concept everyone enjoys or is into.

I totally agree with the backstory thing. Assuming things happened instead of elaborately telling them could save alot of time.

Still, dude. If you want to write Marvel guys, go play in HvV. Why make another RPG that's essentially the same thing?

The biggest problem with these "create it from scratch" RPGs is the lack of a shared history and continuity. Everything ends up being highly confusing, not linking together in terms of tone very well, and people end up contradicting each other a lot. I'm honestly surprised the Create A Hero RPG lasted. I think if you were going to try Marvel Origins/Dawn of marvels again, you'd need to come up with a basic Marvel U history that everyone can play off of. Of course, the problem with that is some people might feel like you're stepping on their ideas in favor of yours, so you'd have to be really careful with it.

I'd love an 'Origin' concept. I've read parts of Dawn of Marvels and Rise of Marvels in the archives and it is a really good premise. I think Rise... had the right idea in a way, with changing up the origins of characters.

If the What If? RPG is like an Alt. Universe of our own creation then i'm all for it. I just want to let my imagination run wild and create something fun.

And while I personally think I screwed up with UDC in a lot of ways, I think it also taught what to do and what not to do with laying this kind of universe groundwork.

Well, I think it should be a small group. Otherwise, it could turn into a cluster **** and nothing will get done. I'd be perfectly willing to talk some ideas with you and whoever else you ant in on this, though.

It's been tried multiple times and it didn't survive. I mean, we all like the idea...it just never lives.
