Essentially, I always thought the Gotham of the Arkham games is TAS' Art Deco meets Batman and Batman Returns' gothic, urban nightmares. Shooting in Detroit kind of promises it will not be either of those.

We don't know how much will be shot on location. Watchmen was shot in Vancouver and that used sets.

Just because they're filming in Detroit doesn't mean we'll see recognisable elements of Detroit. It might just mean they're building the sets there and using Detroit labour for the sizable tax rebates.

I love how these concept arts from Arkham City portray Gotham as a more Victorian British type of cityscape. I don't think Gotham should really resemble any American city. A more European style would be suitably eerie....

His Metropolis was rather disappointing...But his New York in Watchmen was sublime. Perhaps he does the dark, gritty, gothic city better than a sprawling, new age metropolis?

Or it could be that Larry Fong is the one behind it.

I hope Snyder puts major effort into how Gotham looks. If he makes it like those pictures, the cause of batman's weary state of being will be felt through imagery.

We didn't see the city good enough. First everybody was in panic due to the invasion. Second most of all the buildings were empty and they didn't make the city shine. Not to mention we only saw a few hints of the city. But you know part of the city was destroyed and it will be some modifications done by Lexcorp. Although I have to admit the Metropolis city gave me a real world vibe and I liked it. I wouldn't mind some improvements.
I think Snyder's is the man who says and draws smth then tell the people in charge how to do it or that they give him some concepts Then the final product is completed.
BTW Larry Fong is working in this, if you haven't known. So I expect some cool things.

Boy, this thread is going to become depressing in a year's time. As much as I like to hope, I'm not convinced Snyder is going for the comic book look at all, given how his Metropolis looked.

How so? Most people would agree the very mention of Detroit immediately echoed sentiments of how a "real" Gotham would look.

Fong, like Amir before him, is there to express Snyder's vision. I'm not going to count on a cinematographer dictating a look because that is rarely the case, and MOS showed us previous films do not count.

Yeah but neither of those are confirmed. the most likely thing is that they're gonna use some CGI. But who knows? We'll have to wait to see some info.

I think Fong-Snyder is a previously good combination. But yeah I agree that the last word is from Snyder. I think some good ideas visually speaking will be happening.
