If they made one street to look like this, it could be a great way of referencing the Joker and Batman's past encounter with him without even showing the character.

That's a good idea. They could have symbols all over the place representing lots of different villains like in Arkham City.

I prefer the mixture of Burton's, TAS, Dark City, Sin City, and a tiny bit of Batman Forever Gotham.

LOL I almost added (no pun intended) to my original post after I read it.

Dark City is indeed a great film.

Annnd the production designer of Dark City is doing BvS.

(Although Wise, I agree with you that the other films you listed are better at dark cities than Dark City)

So great. I mean, just as Avengers/Spider-Man draw strength from being able to say "It's NYC" - Batman draws strength from being able to have its own city. Burton's was admirable, but I'd really love to see some REAL city-world building with something as fantastical as you've posted here... it's a comic book movie for chrissakes. If the over the top gothic art deco city of Gotham were shown on screen, it'd definitely make a lot of people drool.

And yeah... as far as TDKR... ugh... did we really need to see the obvious NYC birds eye shots of two of our most famous bridges exploding in the same footage as the newly constructed Freedom Tower, with absolutely no CGI retouching other than the explosions? The way Gotham was treated in Nolan's films nears the top of the list of my gripes...

The saddest thing about post-BB Gotham is how Nolan built it up as being its own character with its own personality yet also making virtually nothing in it visually unique.

I'm glad everyone is on the same page about how Gotham should look better this time around. I think Gotham should be a lot of CGI honestly. It should be pleasing to the eye. I agree that seeing Gotham should make people drool. It needs to look fantastical again.

Pretty much every other adaptation of Gotham has been better than Nolans. Nolans films were great, but his Gotham sucked :o

Burton Gotham, Schumacher Gotham, BTAS Gotham, Arkham Games Gotham>.......................Nolan's Gotham

I thought Nolan's Gotham was fine. The ideal is a mixture of his and Burton's.

i thought Nolan's Gotham was WEAK. He put no effort into making it unique. Nolan's Gotham is "fine" if you're into Gotham looking like every other American city.

I'm not that easily pleased.

I'm sure.

Like I said: a mixture of Burton's and Nolan's cities would be ideal.

If it were me, I would take inspiration from Edinburgh, Scotland. Proper mix of modern and Gothic architecture.

Yeah, I agree. I'd be fine with a less hilly Edinburgh with more skyscrapers.

I would love a moment like this at the end of the film that hints that Joker was pulling strings (perhaps in the opposite direction that Lex was).

It seems appropriate for the first Superman/Batman movie to have Lex/Joker in some way, even if Joker is off-screen and not mentioned by name.

That sounds great dude. I always thought that if there were ever a Batman Superman movie, that Lex and Joker should be the villains.

We probably won't get that, but that's still pretty much what i want

i liked how Gotham looked in Batman '89 and in Batman Begins, especially the Narrows

I think in the old Andrew Kevin Walker script, they are the villains. I only skimmed it though, so I may be wrong.

This could be a very interesting and fresh take on Gotham. I personally loved the grounded look of Gotham in TDK and TDKR (though not so much much the Narrows in BB, it looked too much like a set to me), and I liked the look of Gotham in Burton's Batman, but I'd like the new Gotham to go in a different direction. Take this pics and add about 20 stories to each building, flatten down the hilly terrain a bit and I think you'd have a great, original cinematic Gotham.

I wanna see Old Wayne Tower!

It's Gotham's version of the Empire State Building.

I'd love something more akin to Burton's two Gothams. LOVE.
