Great movies no one knows about

Cinephiles will know them, but I also highly recommend "The Mirror" and "Stalker" by Tarkovski.

Oh and thanks to all those who contributed to this thread. Definitely a lot of films I've never heard of and now have to watch.

Watch the movies I listed, I guarantee you'll love them.

It's probably a bit too out there for most people but I really loved Across the Universe. It's a psychedelic movie based on the songs of the Beatles! Awesome!

Also, Mirrormask is one which faded into obscurity for some odd reason.

Well you listed Delicatessen and especially City of Lost Children so...

In spider-neil I trust.

The Great Blue is good, even though it pains me to say it, cause Besson has turned into a total wh*re.

Have to check out this Dog Soldiers.

Dog Soldiers is one of my favorite horrors of all time.
Delicatessen is probably my favorite independent of all time and City of Lost Children is an absolute visual feast. You wont be sorry.

Seconded. Enjoyed it a lot :)

Dude! I just said that! :p

It's like one mind! :hehe:

I'd also like to add 'Fish Tank'

Also, couple of one's from last year no one seemed to have heard of:

Hesher
Submarine
Machine Gun Preacher

EDIT: Oh and I totally forgot 'Veronika Decides to Die'

Sarah Michelle Gellar starring in an adaption of one of my favourite novels by Paulo Coelho, about a girl who attempts suicide and ends up in a mental hospital told she's damaged her heart and only has months left to live.

EDIT: Sorry, they are all coming back to me!

Special (2006) with Michael Rappaport (sp?) - one of my all time faves, about a guy who goes on an experimental drug that makes him believe he has super powers.

God I've been trying to find the Blu Ray for MONTHS and still no luck. I may have to order it off Amazon or something, even though its price was pretty steep last time I checked.

Have you seen McKean's short films? They're a blast.

Yeah, I've seen them. Actually, most of the films you've listed :woot:

Apart from Dog Soldiers and Attack of the Block. Which tells me I have to watch them.

Attack the block is one of the best coming of age movies I have ever seen which is weird seeing as ATB is a horror movie.

Meatballs, Vamp, Secondhand Lions, After Hours, Tapeheads, The Money Pit & Pursuit of Happyness. Admittedly, some of these great movies may not be movies that no one knows about, but I would say some have been forgotten as time moves forward.

After hours and Vamp are a good shout.

David Gordon Green's All the Real Girls

It's such an honest look at relationships, and features one of my favorite Zooey Deschandel performances. It's a beautiful film.

I would argue that Meatballs is well known enough.

I watched a great modern Western (2005) the other day that parts of Red Dead Redemption were based on called The Proposition starring Guy Pearce and Ray Winstone. The score is fantastic too.

Also another film not many people seem to talk about much these days is a Clint Eastwood film from the 80s called Heartbreak Ridge, that's one of my favourites by him

With Honors - Joe Pesci at his best!
Cube (And it's sequels) - Crazy sci-fi horror
Suicide Kings - College boy rich kids hold mob boss Christopher Wallen hostage.

Paris, Texas
Peeping Tom
Weekend ('67)
American Movie
Small Change

Suicide Kings - College boy rich kids hold mob boss Christopher Wallen hostage.

That was a good one.

Another film that came out around that time is Things To Do in Denver When You're Dead.

I miss the good David Gordon Green.

The Ruling Class- Peter O'Toole plays a member of a very influential English family who thinks he is the messiah reborn and then later Jack the Ripper. Hilarity ensues.

Phantom of the Paradise
The Rapture

Oh my God. This movie terrified me as a child. I remember seeing it on television with my mother. The accident, the mask, the little evil guy. I was scarred.

In Bruges is a nice shout. One of my favorite films.

That's funny cause this movie is pure cheese comedy dealing with music-hall and the clashes between different types of Rock n' Roll in the 80s.

Thought I'd mentioned it so that nobody thinks it's a horror movie... I sure understand how it could scare a kid though. I was scared of E.T. when I was 5.

Yeah, I was really little. There was just something about it that really unsettled me.

The Believer - Probably the first substantial demonstration of Ryan Gosling's "serious" acting ability.

The Fall

Casshern

Goemon

The Suicide Circle

The Sea is Watching

Rhapsody in August
