Green Lantern 2

The CG was imagitive but that's more on art direction. But the CG was fairly bad.

John Stewart wasn't exactly "interesting" in the JL cartoon, either.

A heck of a lot more interesting than his comic book counterpart though.

I have absolutely no idea what you guys saw/read. Stewart is a great character (hence, he's being given the lead back on GLC) and "In Blackest Night" was one of the best in not the best story from the JLA cartoon.

I disagree, the best John Stewart-centric story in the JLA cartoon was Starcrossed. *ahem*

Ok, watched it again today, it had been a long time since I'd seen it, I still believe GL is nowhere near as bad as many people say it is. The CG overall IMO is very solid, the costume looks really cool and great, the mask looks weird at first, but I feel in the darker scenes, it actually works pretty well, the constructs look great, Oa looks good, the Guardians look good, Parallax looks good too. Kilowog looks good, well, overall, it looks pretty good, the beginning sequence where they find Parallax has some pretty shaky CG though, but that's the only screw up IMO.

Ryan Reynolds is a great Hal Jordan (once again, imo ^^ ), Lively is good, Sarsgaard is hamming it up but is fun to watch, the rest of the cast is okay, Strong is still great as Sinestro.

The big weakness of the movie, as it's been said many times, is that it's too rushed, not enough GL Corps, not enough time on Oa, not enough training, not as much action as I would like.

Otherwise, the movie is funny when it needs to be, the constructs look awesome, the action sequences are really cool (especially the ending, or the fight in the city). It could have been better, I think that Campbell is an odd choice and is one of the reasons why the movie is not great when it should have been.

But I think the movie is good, like a 6,5/10. I hope they go with a sequel when they plan on doing Justice League, Hal Jordan needs more dvpt, needs more movies, they cant reboot this, they need to keep Ryan and go from here.

I dont see why they should keep Ryan. And I dont think he did a bad job but I just dont see why they should really keep him, Strong, or any remnants of the previous film.

I wouldn't mind if they kept Reynolds. But if it's really going to be 5+ years or so before we see a Justice League... Then getting a new actor makes more sense. If the rumors of a JL in 2015 were true, I'd say just stick with Reynolds. It's looking like that's not the case, though.

Never really read any John Stewart GL comics. I've mainly read Hal & Kyle. Can't say I liked him all that much in the JL cartoon. Although a few of the above episodes mentioned of JL were pretty sweet. :D

I wouldnt mind Reynolds either but I just dont think theyre going to do it.

It doesnt seem like Synder is that keen on the idea of JL in 2015 or at least thats what he says in interviews. So like you said if it's 5+ years than I don't see them bringing him back.

But even if JL is made for 2015, GL wasnt a success. It didnt make money relative to the budget (if it is true that it cost over 300 mill including marketing budget) and critics didnt like it. And to my knowledge it's not really gaining that big of a following on home video. So I dont see the studio being in a rush to rehire an actor who was the face of a box office flop in the same role that he played in said flop. They could probably cast a new actor for cheaper than getting Reynolds back.

I say just recast/ As for an actual reboot Im on the fence. I would like to see the origin done over because I dont think the origin was done just right beyond the basics, but at the same time it might just be best to move on. But I still dont see them/see the point of them bringing Reynolds back for JL and especially in a GL2

They could replace Raynolds. I think with a better script he could pull of a great Jordan but yeah keep as little as possible from the first movie. Except Mark Strong's Sinestro. He is was perfect. If they make a second film or reboot they should still keep Mark Strong as Sinestro.

On second thought, Ryan should just focus on the Deadpool movie if it gets made, the script is amazing, and he would be dope in it.

Yeah, I totally forget about a Deadpool movie. Fox should go ahead and give it a go. I'm hoping the Deadpool video games does well so maybe they'll see that this character has a lot of popularity, even if the game is rated M.

Not sure I've seen any actors I'd like as Hal that aren't either too old or too recognized for another role (i.e. Nathan Fillion & Chris Pine)

I think a J.J. Abrams Green Lantern film would be amazing. I think he's going to be a little too busy for a few decades :P . I think he's the guy they should have went for in the beginning though.

Rupert Wyatt
Joe Cornish
Duncan Jones

are good directors for a GL reboot I think. JJ Abrams is nice and IM sure he'd make a good movie because I like every thing Ive seen him direct (still annoyed that I havent gotten to see Into Darkness yet)

As for Deadpool, I hope they make it because Reynolds is a good choice but idk I feel like if they wanted to make it they wouldve by now

Guillermo del Toro or JJ Abrams (which is highly unlikely).

Maybe even Ridley Scott.

I really think the CGI hate is just people harping on something that's not really bad. I thought the CGI was fine. Did I think they were real aliens or constructs? No but I never do I thought they looked good and believable. The CGI suit was great idea I thought.

I thought it looked great , but if he wore a rubber suit we might have gotten a sequel. Instead we won't see Green Lantern again unless they move forward with a Justice League film.

I cant wait to see them get GL right. There were easily avoided misteps. The main one is just that they need a much better script writer, although they did cut out some of the stuff I liked in the first draft.

Just make a Sinestro Corp film with Mark Strong...

eh I think people should let Strong as Sinestro go. I liked him a lot but i dont see him coming back. Which sucks because that makes 2 franchise starters that he was in that didnt make a lot of money, GL and John Carter (which I really liked)

How about Jon Favs as the director? His work with the actors can really lend humanity to what would be an otherwise digital world.

I could see Jon Fav doing GL. Might could work!

Since they already tried making an iron man movie with the first GL, sure, why not get the guy who did iron man? Lol

They tried... But failed. :P Plus Fav's obviously into scifi stuff. I think he could make it work.

J.J. Abrams
Ridley Scott
Jon Favreau

Those are the directors I liked that have been mentioned so far.

I just can't see them not having Hal in the movie. I guess it wouldn't be hard to explain why Hal would be absent (Mission on an elseworld planet.) But they've just been pushing him foremost in the New 52, animated movies, merch, etc.

Agreed, it has to star Hal Jordan. Especially if they do a Justice League movie. The only other option would be John Stewart and that has little chance of happening unfortunately.

I much much prefer Stewart to Jordan. His antagonistic attitude is a much welcome different side of a hero than the usual

Wait Stewart is antagonistic? Or Jordan is?

The John Stewart I remember is military and tries to do things by the book. Jordan throws away the book and likes to do things his own way.

I ment like his way of dealing with things He's a hard ass, you don't see that with many heroes

Oh yeah, totally agree. That would be refreshing, especially if he has to team with Flash in Justice League he'd bring him down to earth quickly.
