Green Lantern Box Office Prediction Thread

I just noticed that here, and in most international markets, GL will not be out for 1-3 months.

Why would they do that? It's going to severely impact international box office...

I don't know about markets like Austrailia, but I do know that the film will need to be translated or have subtitles and they might need more time for that.

Usually, most films are completed a month before release. That month enables WB to dub/subtitle international versions of the movie.

I think WB is staggering the release and release them on or close to local holidays around the world. That way, a lot of people are out of school/work and hopefully encourage them to see GL around that time.

The reported reason is 3D screens. Transformers is getting them, then Potter, then GL in August.

300 million for the budget for GL with marketing??? That sound a bit over the top. I don't believe it. Even if it's the case i think GL is still going to pull in between 250-300 million domestically.

My guess has stuck around 225 to 250 mil domestically. As for world wide it's tough. maybe somewhere around 650 mil.

It will need to make $366 million domestically in order to make it profitable.

Batman Begins had a $150 million budget and a marketing campaign of $100 million. It's really not that crazy. Besides, that marketing budget is global, not just domestic. GL cost more to produce than Begins so the total budget is higher.

Sucks that they have to make so much. Especially with a concept as out there as this is. Hopefully it does okay and doesn't bomb because we wont be seeing any other dc films if it does. If it can make over 60 million it would be great for an opening because iron man, spider-man and the dark knight were really anomalies that bucked the trend.

Woah! I want the film to do well, but you guys might want to lower your expectations or you may end up being dissapointed. It's facing some stiff competition right out of the gate. It's probably going to be some where on the order of 150-175 domestic 150-175 foreign

I think it'll surpass 200M foreign. 3D has been helping everybody overseas this year.

Green Lantern is special. It needs to halt its overseas release for months to translate its exceedingly witty script whereas most other films get it done in time for a simultaneous release.

I'm surprised to see quite a few people here expecting GL to gross over 200 mil domestically. Thor had better press going in to it's opening with decent reviews and it still didn't manage to gross 200.

Thor had pretty stunning reviews at first

American Cirtics really dissed it, the international critic embraced it heavily

Super 8 had great reviews too, but the lack of ad campaigning hurt it, even if it was done on a near shoe string budget.

Thor got better reviews than it deserved IMHO...Anyway since WB doesn't want the critics to release their reviews of GL that means that they are bad. And if the audience agrees it's chance of legs are shot.

I'm still giving it an over 60mil opening weekend but I'm not so sure of it's legs now.

Look at the average rating. Its right where it should be.

This may end up being DC's Fantastic Four, which is not a bad thing. Fantastic Four actually had a few redeeming qualities, but was overshadowed by the bad. On the good side, it made enough to get a second shot. The problem was the second time around they swung and missed.

I'll accept a flawed GL, if it gets a sequel. I want this film to be good but I'm lowering my expectations, which is what I did for FF, and when I saw it, I thought it was actually better than I thought it was going to be.

I'm one of the few freaks who actually thought that FF was a deeply flawed, not good, but charming film.

And I thought it was going to be warmed over s**t when I walked into that theater.

Lets face it there will not be a sequel so hopefully it is at least a good stand alone film . I think this maybe the flop of the summer.

It will probably be better than Transformers 3 but quality don't dictate crap / Transformers will murder this at the bo ./ This should have come out in December

I think there is a lot of overreaction right now.

It's going to be hard to top Priest as far as flops go.
