if CA will not be liked because of its period look it will only proof that some are hypocrits. for years some are complaining that all superhero movies look the same. here is a guy who is fighitng nazi's. boom.

At DC/WB they wanted their "Iron Man" and they'll get their "Fantastic Four"...

I am hella curious to see how Cap will be received. This whole year just seems like an inquiry into film marketing.

Caps fans seem to think it will be the second coming, I'm curious to see what actually happens.

A 60 million total giving itsno name brand , bad reviews and an unproven lead actor is pretty damn good from the wb

I wouldn't say that. Considering this is one of the most expensive movies ever made, 60 million OW isn't that impressive.

It cost like $200 mil to make and $100 mil to market. It's not really that expensive compared to other big summer movies. Ever since the NY Times article came out about the film costing $300 mil with marketing people have been feaking out about how expensive it is and how it will be impossible to make its money back. If every other movie included their marketing budget in with their production budget they would look a hell of a lot more expensive too. $60 mil is pretty good, all things considered. The true test will be how it holds up in the coming weeks and how it does overseas.

Its not even one of the most expensive superhero films let alone any movies . Can we stop the exaggeration .

It will likely be in the red in theaters but people tend to forget the real money is made in the video market . Lets nor forget merchandising & videogames .... Green Lantern as a product will make DC money .

The movie cost no less than 200 million to make. It's desperate marketing campaign is easily 100 million.

This movie needs to be making 80 million OW. It needs to make the vast majority of it's box office gross in the first week before Cars 2 dents it, then Transformers 3 will come along and kill it. It needs to make like, 400 million WW to just break even.

I don't think it will. And it doesn't deserve to.

No it doesn't . Your forgetting where the films make most of its money . The ancillary market . Between tv licensing , dvd sales etcccc . This film can turn a nice profit eventually . That really is going to determine GL's fate more so than BO

True, the way they've marketed this piece of crap will bare some fruit. I'm sure Green Lantern colostomy bags will sell like hot cakes ;)

yes this is good to make its budget back and some profit for the guys in the suits. thats why i try to NOT use the word bomb or flop. but only underperform. i think a lot of movies underperform but at the end teh studio makes its budget back.

if the public is nto going crazy over the movie then they will nto make the sequel.

This movie could have have a lower budget had more ingenuity been implemented

i think physical sets are also very expensive. i dont know the exact numbers. but if they would build lets say 10-15 suits for reynolds and build huge sets then i think it would still be around 200.

i do think that they could at least build 10 meters around Reynolds. so the ground he is standing on and lets say 5 walls. so that Sony is referencing something real.

Once they cover the costs of making/distributing that merchandise and video games...assuming that people will really want the merchandise and video games. :O

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the better that people like a movie, the better the merchandise sells.

If transformers can cost 145 GL could have figured something better to do with all their money. Yes, Snyder saves a boat load with is warehouse blue screen style but this seemed to have cost a lot more whilst apparently using that methood.

and a tron-esque suit would have been a great investment imo.

America's morale is high right now. That would help Cap no?

They (Marvel) should've bombarded (pun not intended) the small screen with TV spots right after Laden died.

Transformers gets a big discount from ILM because Spielberg is executive producing and Lucas hooks him up. TF would have cost more if Spielberg wasn't involved.

Considering every bay film to date and (without or without berg) has been ILM, I have my doubts about that. I will say that bay getting his personally owned company Digital Domain to do complimentary work probably helped.

That being said I have a feeling sony imageworks is a lot cheaper than ILM.

It's just a shame all of this money was wasted on low quality film.

I think the opening weekend proves that had this movie been done better it could've been huge. Had they gotten a better lead instead of a snarky Hal Jordan and not converted it into ****** 3D, this could've been a huge franchise. I think it proves that the interest in a Green Lantern film was out there because the symbol is sort of a pop culture symbol. Years before this movie came out I'd see people sporting Green Lantern shirts out and about in multiple parts of the country.

$60 million-ish doesn't bode well because that's even less than Thor and this is one of the bloodiest most competitive summers ever. Look at Kung Fu Panda 2. CG animated sequel to a bonafide hit and that movie is struggling to break even and Dreamworks Animation is in an ugly spot right now. Pirates 4 is doing less than Pirates 3.

You would think so but heavy CG movies from Sony tend to have massive budgets. GL, the Spider-Man films, etc.

And I don't see your point about Bay having ILM for his other movies. He got the discount because Spielberg was Exec Producing. I don't see what's countered by what you said.

You say that like Thor was a flop or something, I mean it wasn't Harry Potter it's clearly a success.

The key will be Sunday's drop off, which will be very telling for this series. Right now 150 seems to be the celing for this film, but I have a feeling after next weekend it will barely clear 100M, and probably not break 300M world wide.
