To fans of “Batman,” writer Greg Rucka has become a name synonymous with the character. In addition to delivering some of the Bat-universe’s most groundbreaking story arcs (”Batman: No Man’s Land,” “Bruce Wayne - Fugitive”), Rucka now handles writing duties on DC’s Bat-friendly monthly “Detective Comics” series. MTV caught up with DC’s resident Bat-expert to get his two cents on 2008’s box office champ, “The Dark Knight,” and how he thinks Warner Bros. and director Christopher Nolan (if he decides to return) should tackle “Batman 3
“It would seem to me logical now that — spoiler alert — miss Rachel Dawes passed away, now would be the time to bring in Selina Kyle [Catwoman],” added Rucka. “That would be the appropriate time to introduce another love interest.”
“But I have no idea where they should go for the third one, because they went to my favorite villain for the second,” joked Rucka. “They did Two-Face already
Rucka also makes a firm case for keeping the villain count low, adding, “I would urge them to stay away from the danger of heaping too many villains into the movie. I think superhero movies do badly when they try to back up the truck and say ‘here’s the whole rogues gallery!’
“I don’t think you should pair Catwoman with Penguin again under any circumstances,” laughed Rucka. “Cat… fish… problem!”

Not anything massively important, but thought it was somewhat worth noting.

Well I for one will be very dissapointed if she's not in the movie.

She's part of what I call 'the big 3' - that being the three villains you need for a 'full' Batman - Joker, Two-Face and Catwoman.

:D
Catwoman for BB3!!!

I agree with Rucka. Catwoman is the obvious choice. The problem is Catwoman is not fully a villain, so another villain HAS to be in the film.

The Riddler and Black Mask!! There you have the perfect Batman Movie (after the Dark Knight, of course)

Nolan has not had just one villain in either of his movies. So I'd say another villain along with Catwoman is a given.

Bring on Catwoman!

I think, when done best, Catwoman shouldn't ever be a full villain. That's part of the allure of her character. She's on the edge, she's definitely not good, but she's not quite bad. She's not leading villain material, nor should she be. What she is is the perfect love interest for Batman :brucebat:

The main plotline should be Catwoman against another villain, with Bruce getting in the middle to keep people safe.

I like your idea.... but that makes Catwoman sound like another Bat vigilante... as if she is trying to clean up the streets, just like the fake batmen in TDK.

She's a selfish character at heart, so all that needs to be done is have her steal from the other villain (she's a thief), or have them wrong her in some way (she's vengeful) and it works. She doesn't need to be doing anything for altruistic reasons.

Yes for Catwoman. She's the obvious next choice.

It doesn't have ANYTHING to do with whether or not she'll be in the third movie, but Joker had is teaser in Begins, and Catwoman had hers in TDK("Should protect against cats...").

Throw in Riddler and maybe a Freak/Mobboss, and MAYBE a few more second tier villain cameos, and you've got yourself a good start to what could be an awesome ****ing movie.

i kinda agree with Rucka that a Catwoman/ Penguin tandem shouldnt be done for Batman3, although i must make it clear that i am a fan of both being given the Nolan treatment. so its one or the other. and yes given that Rachel is gone, the next most logical conclusion would be Selina Kyle.

or Talia Al Gul.

whichever is the case, its time that Batman does get an " image of himself" in the form of a lady. the mirror image thing was a prevailing theme for the past two films, i dont see why they should stop now.

Catwoman is a given for B3, but as far as the other villains go, I think those should reflect the actual story outline, which we wont know for a while. But, if I had to guess as to what the possible storyline may focus on, I would say it'll revolve around both what Batman has to do to make up for the actions of TDK (not necessarily redeeming himself in the eyes of Gothamites but more as to what Batman has to do to clear his own conscience) and is it possible, given what transpired in TDK, for Batman to have the strength/will/spirit to carry on his war on crime.

The latter is where I'd expect Catwoman to come into the most.

I second that please no Catwoman. It's too early for Bruce to have another love interest....I mean why does everyone assume he has to have a love interest in every movie? he's not frickin James Bond

Love interests help ground a character, and make them look like more of a three-dimensional character.

The Dark Knight ended with Batman on ther run form the police... Because he took the blame for Two-Face which unless Two-Face comes back to say he really did it how will Batman fight crime in a city where everyone is out to get him... Cops and the Mob all at the same time? I dont want to hear that it will all blow over ether he took the blame for at least 3 deaths that dosent just blow over... If I went to see B3 and thats how they explain what happen I would be very let down... I think the way they should go with the next is TwoFace and Catwoman... TwoFace climbs the ranks of the Mob why Catwoman becomes Batman's new love...

As opposed to no love interest, that make them look like a fantasy character with flat dimension?

No, but personal relationships add depth to a character, and everyone's looking for love or has it.

No, not everyone. While I myself am a fan of Selina, if there's any character that doesn't need/require a love interest, it's Batman.

There are a myriad of other ways in adding depth to Bruce's character. And let's be honest here, Batman in live-action is batting a very low average in putting out a successful on-screen relationship.

I won't see Batman3 unless it has Catwoman. Not even on DVD

if nolan directs Batman 3, it Wouldnt matter WHICH villain is in..
it will just look good.. the casual audience wont care anyway...

It's obvious that they are gonna include Catwoman in the next one. I mean, after Rachel got blown up, there is an empty spot for a new female character, plus the cat hint by Fox and there you go. Although it would seem kinda bland and pointless to have another love interest for Batman after what happened in TDK. But they can always play with other aspects of the relationship between Catwoman and Batman, such as how alike and yet different they are, how Batman tries to do something good for the whole city, while Catwoman is out only for herself etc. without touching the love angle.
