No, I'm just stating the obvious...

Everyone knows that Sony needs this to be a big Christmas for them. The last one they only made in the States, Europe was lagging behind and even across Japan and the US, sales were low, with the Wii blowing past.

Their current best "catch-up" chance is Christmas (where the majority of console sales occur) and with the loss of GTA4 (and everyone associating GTA with Sony to begin with) Rockstar just gave Sony's Christmas sales to Halo 3.

Sony is now going two Holiday seasons without a "killer app" and it's going to leave a mark. Metal Gear Solid 4, GTA4, Final Fantasy XNCNXNX... the big "franchises" with great commercial history are no-shows on an overpriced system going two plus years without a familiar face.

Seems like they're going to have to make their own Christmas sometime next spring...

Things like MGS4 will be hitting in March, so oh well. PS3 still has enough momentum and good games to have a good Christmas.

Lair is one of the lower key PS3 titles. The biggest games for Sony will be Haze, Unreal Tournament III, Heavenly Sword, Hot Shots Golf 5, Folklore, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Singstar, Ratchet and Clank Future. Not counting Multiplatform releases like CoD4 etc.

The biggest title? Probably Ratchet and Clank or Uncharted.

I don't know why they would have to drop it down the the 60 gb's price once they get rid of all of them. They could still maintain the illusion of a price drop and go on selling the new 80gb for the $600 price point for at least a few months afterwards.

They could, but chances are that teh 60 gig models will be almost completely out of stock around Christmas, and then dropping the 80 gig price would mean more holiday sales, which are needed. Timing-wise it wil probably be better for them to do it right away.

We'll see, I guess. It really depends if Microsoft does the rumored "two-part" price drop with one being soon and dropping the Premium to $349.99 and then dropping the price on all SKUs another $50 sometime after Halo 3 hits the shelves and the Falcon starts shipping out. Keeping in mind this is all rumor.

Well.. yes it is. It's not an actual price cut so much as a fire sale. The 60GB is going to go out of stock and the 80GB will be at the $600 price point and however long.

I'm actually not that bothered by it.
It means more money for other games I really want that are coming out at that time.
I think they should save it for the doldrums (summer). They could make more money if they release a huge game during the time people have more time the play them.

Let me break it down for you then. The only reason I bought a PS3 this summer instead of waiting this fall till after GTAIV was released was bc the price was dropped $100. If that had not have happened, then I would have waited till Nov to get a PS3. Understand now?
