Guardians of the Galaxy Casting Thread

I don't think there's a need to cast a midget in the role of Rocket Raccoon. He'll probably be CGI, so no need to cast someone of that size. Although I'm pretty sure Dinklage is a little bit bigger than raccoon size.

Of course he'll be CGI, but he can still do the motion capture since Rocket Raccoon is anthropomorphic. And besides, his voice is perfect anyway.

Must be australian. Doesnt RR have an australian accent?

Drax, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon should all be done CGI. All you need to find are the perfect voices and attitudes.. For Star-Lord they need a decent looking, but rough looking star. Someone that you would believe has gone thru some major battles. I think Aaron Eckhart wouldnt be a bad choice.. And Gamora above all else needs to be a BAD-ASS.

why on earth would drax need to be done up in cgi?

Updated with Groot, Warlock and Thanos:

Do you really think they're going to stick with that guy as Thanos? They're going to end up hiring an epic voice actor

And I do like the Mangy and Palicki choices

Gamora - Gabrielle Anwar
Drax The Destroyer - Vin Diesel
Rocket Raccoon - Joe Montegna
Groot - You can get anyone really. The director can have a go if he wants.

Wonder if Stan Lee will show up?

I don't see why not, you think they just cast him for that one scene where you could barely even see his whole face and he didn't speak one line? Besides, he's already got a pretty deep voice, they can just enhance it the way they did with "the other."

Yeah, I really wanted to see what Palicki could do with Wonder Woman but oh well, hopefully she finds a new home at Marvel.

Yeah, sure. They needed a guy for a tiny, dialogue-free scene so Whedon hired one of the stunt guys he had worked with on his shows.

They're going to bring in a recognizable name to voice/perform Thanos.

Thanos will be CGI enhanced at the very least. Extensive makeup anyway. So its not that important what the actor looks like since he will be unrecognizable. I wouldnt mind if he's full CGI. Of course we are assuming that Thanos is the main villain in this, which may not be the case.

And again, you don't need to cast people based on their physique. You want to cast the best actors possible. The werewolf on true blood doesnt come close.

Chewy, I like your choices outside of Alan Rickman and Keanu
Rickman's too somber sounding for Rocket, I'd honestly rather hear like Jason Statham or somebody a little more energetic in the role.
And, well, Keanu.. yeah I guess he would make a perfect tree, lol... but I wouldnt want Groot to be a surfer in this

Rickman isn't a cockney Englishman. I'm sure he could put on that accent, but that's not his natural sound. Ian McShane isn't cockney either - it's a northern accent from Lancashire, which is distinctly different from a Cockney accent. I'm sure most of these actors can adopt that accent, just like Sienna Miller did in Layer Cake, but I think some Americans here might be confusing British accents.

People who do sound naturally cockney are the likes of Michael Caine or Bob Hoskins or people in the show "EastEnders".

Bob Hoskins would be a good choice.

As long as its not that fool Danny Dyer which be annoying.

Rocket Raccoon doesn't have to have a cockney accent. He just happened to in MvC3/A:EMH

Some good names being tossed around --- my faves so far are Jeffrey Dean Morgan for Peter Quill, Terry Crews for Drax, Gemma Arterton for Gamora, and of course Dinklage for RR. Not a big fan of the nominees for Adam Warlock, though (if he even shows up) --- I'd go with Charlie Hunnam.

Yes to all except Dinklage. I want Rocket to look like a raccoon. Not a person with a raccoon head. A raccoon standing on it's hind legs. Olyphant is spot on for Star-lord, though

I think, from a marketing perspective, it might be worth stunt casting Rocket Raccoon. Play up the idea that he's Every Action Hero Ever, and cast him appropriately. So, my thought: Jason Statham.

Statham would be incredible. Speaking of The Expendables, I wouldn't mind Dolph Lundgren as Drax. Guy's still in damn good shape and he is supposed to be Moondragon's father, after all, and that's a grown woman. That is if they can't get Vin Diesel or The Rock. Tall and deep voiced, I'd be ecstatic over Lundgren as Drax.

I haven't read anything to do with GotG but I have to say I am quite excited by it, pureley for seeing the fantastical concept on screen, especially Rocket Raccoon, who could potentially end up being a big hit with the general audience, I think.

My question to those that have read GotG stuff, and I realise that this will differ from reader to reader but what type of voice/accent do people imagine when reading RR?

I know he was given a cockney accent for the Marvel vs. Capcom game but when I look at pictures of him for some reason I imagine either Simon Peggs or Phillip Glennisters (based on his Gene Hunt character) voice... Im not suggesting them as cast, that's just what i hear looking at pictures..
